ITT: Post things that you remember about the pre-2000 Internet.
Remember when websites didn't need a bunch of junky ads that you never clicked anyways?

Heather Deepthroat
>>751710811
the glory days when every URL was available..
also, remember when the only way people could find sites was by going to sites that tried to put everything in directories
Or people fucking asked Jeeves instead.
And the scourge of education was the WhiteHouse page that was actually a porn page
>>751710811
Man heather was a complete semen demon. Never seen anything like it before, nor since.
Beast porn used to be really common and easy to find. Shit quality, but available. Now days it's way harder to find.
>>751711061
Yep, I remember those directories.
I remember the Glory Days
>>751711298
Melissa Ashley had to show up in court at least once to get somebody out of legal trouble for having her pics
also, people used to get porn thru IRC (some probably still do, but we won't judge)
>>751711275
I think the people who did porn back in the late 90s probably didn't realize this stuff was gonna be around 15-20 years later
so, nowadays, there's a lot more video stuff than photos, and the herd thinned out because some don't want to be associated with porn in 2032
>>751710981
>>751711034
I remember these
>>751710586

>>751711593
I think social values around the internet in particular and values in general have changed and I think that affected it most.
Probably a bit of what you said too. Either way, real pity.
>>751711593
I found out Welcome to Oasis is still around getting gang banged. She's gotta be 50 now.
I don't remember if it was pre-2000, but do you guys recall when Yahoo groups were full of cheese pizza?
>>751711780
I think the internet changed social values more than social values changed the internet.
Dial up porn.
>>751711298
>>751710811
Holy hell those are the best blow job videos I've ever seen
>>751710586
does anyone remember when alta vista was the only search engine?
>>751711853
Bit of both.
It used to be that the internet was really the wild west, anything was acceptable and everything was anonymous. Obviously that changed.
Also, government wasn't paying any attention to anything back then.
>>751711780
there were a few years in the early-mid 2000s where people didn't realize that employers would actually see what they posted online..
A lot of that has probably moved a bit underground.
So, our standards changed in a variety of ways.. some things are more acceptable... and people also don't send strangers nude photos as easily as they used to
>>751710586

to be honest, the internet was really the most wild before the CDA was passed in 1996. When that got overturned by the court, it took a little while..
so, there's probably more free porn available now than ever before.. but certain things are shunned too (especially over the last 3 years).
>>751712016
Yes. I used it in high school and college. Google wasn't a thing until after I graduated. It's unbelievable how easy students have access to information now.
when my butler jeeves would fetch me high rez porn in around an hour
>>751712025
Yeah but you really had to be a degenerate already to access that stuff. Now thanks to high speed internet everything is accessible and the degenerates can still get whatever fucked up shit they want.
I do know what you're saying though, the internet is much more censored but ironally it exposes a lot more people to "filth" than before high speed internet was a thing.

also, these days, there's people who could probably make money as nude models who just post their stuff for free
>>751712215
Yep, 100% agreed.
>>751712298
Yeah, when I started on 4chan (and I've been here since pretty much when it started up), beast threads were fairly common. It was just thrown in your face in the right parts of the net.
Also, the whole anti-camgirl thing from 8 years ago literally started the trapping plague we now face. Was so fucking stupid watching it..
>>751711298
And she could take an ass pounding, like nobody's business! I've been more jealous of Heather's husband than any other man living. Hung, fine ass wife that us a sword swallower and takes it deep in the pooper AND brings other you bitches home to pass on oral skills, with his dick as the training aid! Beat that

>>751710811

>>751712341

>>751712428
You probably have more chance making money as an Instagram model than a nude model. Fitness bloggers and makeup artists etc. I think women are much bigger target audiances now than any time before.

>>751712508

>>751712477
I've been on 4chan on and off since 2p07 and I remember those times. Hell I remember CP threads for Christs sake. People still use 4chan to share CP they just do it via kik and dbox etc
Cruising Mplayer, Zone, Ten, Kali, Heat using dialup for online matches of my favorite games like Total Annihilation, Red Alert, and Mech Commander, lagging like a bitch, but still having a good time.

>>751712612
It's probably for the best to not think about that
BTW, Katie is still around in 2017, so this is basically her life now.
>>751712721
Yep. Only thing I ever had a problem with was the CP threads. The rest of it was pretty awesome though.
I also remember when there was some serious intellect floating around here. Legit funny/smart people. Now it's a clusterfuck of stupid (dare I say it) normies.
Before linetrap became gay too..

Linkin Park - In the End
Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch
DMX - Party Up
Heavy nostalgia around these songs because they were some of the first I ever downloaded via P2P clients. Before limewire, before kazaa, back when I used MORPHEUS
I remember webrings, "Warning! 5k photos!" Tesselated backgrounds, thehun.com for porn, and webcams where you had to refresh the page to get a new image.
the one pic I have been relooking for, for ages.
it was a bunch of cheerleaders, all naked, forming a 2 or 3 level kneeling pyramid, and I think they had something spelled on their ass cheeks
Downloading Homeworld save games from a Geocities site cos I was shit at it and there were no cheats but I wanted to get to the end.

Sounds like lightspeed girls.
If it's the same thing I'm thinking of, pretty sure Tawny Stone was involved.
I never downloaded a desktop stripper but ads for these malware riddled things were all over the place in 1999/2000.

I remember using the Internet before the World Wide Web existed. After connecting with the modem, you just got a Unix shell. It was theoretically possible to share pictures, but took fucking forever (like an hour per 100K). Video was not a thing.

Back in the day AOL would kick you off for not doing anything...and to them downloading was not doing anything. So I used to set my yahoo home page to refresh every 5 mins and that would fool their timer and let the endless 28.8 downloads continue

>>+ 1 internetz to you good sir
>>751710586
girls were welcome, even if they did not behave very well.
because they were so rare, they got their tiddy bonus, even online.
nowadays.. we better stick to the "there are no girls on the internet" rule
>>751711298
It says amateur but they sure suck dick like pros...
>Cyber in AOL chatrooms
>Cyber on Yahoo! messenger
>Cyber on Bolt (great place to find 18-20 yo girls)
i jerked off quite a bit over chat in those years
>"non-pro" era of Craigslist

I worked as a web tester for the company that developed the form filling software that infoseek bought which later became the standard autocomplete we know today.

>We had yet to see the level of damage that roasties were truly capable of.
considering how many of us either still are virgins or arent and despising such, i dare to say we're not even close to realizing that level of damage

>>751722629
Camwhores off stileproject were amazing. And they would totally go to meetups and everything. I actually stayed with lacey and adora for a weekend one summer.
>>751718200
i remember being lent a modem for a weekend by a friend of my dad's who worked in the local uni tech dept.
this was on a BBC Micro, and would have been about 1987-88? I remember ghostbusters was not long out.
managed to get onto an online bulletin board or two. afair I got the news but slower, and some news about bbc games. found a games BB and had a short conversation in a chatroom, everybody typing HI really slowly, then i got my first download, a program called Icebox.
you put it on the machine and it would freeze whatever was loaded into memory and let you dump it to a disc.
so if you were playing repton, you could icebox it, dump the file to a disk and then give it to your friend and he could load repton back onto his machine at the same point you froze it.
like everything else it worked about 1/4 of the time and took multiple external disc drives and failed discs. if people wanted stuff they'd have to bring their own discs, shit was expensive.
>>751712737
mplayer was the shit, it was basically xbox live/psn/steam 20 years ago.
Remember when you didn’t need to wear a condom to fuck your girlfriend so long as she was on the pill?
Popular online games included MUDs like Shades of Evil. If you don't know what that is, its basically an RPG that's all text-based.
>>751724189
I used to play plethoraMUD
>>751715442

it's all very hazy, i remember some stuff, but after all this *was* 30 years ago. i remember you had to get the addresses for things to look up online from magazines, i remember there was a directory you could go to, to get you started with places to go.
it was like slower ceefax! i would have been about 8-12 when i was first going online in the late 80s and it was only ever a handful of times; there was little to do and no knowledge of how to do it.
between 12-14 i was coping with moving schools, 14-17 i was playing in bands and it wasn't until university at 17-18 that a friend bought a Pentium 100 with a built-in modem, and we started going online on dialup again, by which time (1995?) netscape navigator was the thing.

Who remembers that game that may have come with an early version of Windows or maybe even dos where you played against an opponent, each as a king Kong the ape and you were chucking explosive bananas at each other over skyscrapers? Got in plenty of trouble at school for playing that in the computer lab.
Hit me baby one more time
>>751726103
It really fucking does doesn't it? I honestly dont even want all this modern fucking technology anymore. Should not have evolved past DSL. I just want to go back and be in the 80s/90s forever.
The amount of melancholia and nostalgia that comes with the fond memories and mind blowing novelty of the WWW is just amazing. My insomnia finally had a place to thrive.
The internet literally shaped my entire life. You couldn't simply install a game in the 90s. You had to read manuals, read message boards, update drivers, install drivers by actually location the fucking folder they're in... such beauty..
When the time machine exists I know when I will go to.
>>751726217
I do. It was a dos game. I had that and Oregon trail dos version.
>>751726217
Cant remember that, although there was a messenger service that you could message anyone on the network. Logged on and it was there, found my friend and we messaged each other.. Even though we were next to each other..
Another ban ensued when I messaged "Something smells like shit.. I think Arif has walked in"
Fuck you /b/....

Quake III arena
Starcraft and Diablo 1 on Battle.net
when cartoon network had good games
original Doom which came out for Dos before Windows was even out yet. total mind = blown.
LAN parties to play games over local ethernet when internet connections were sub 14.4. 100 gamers in some quasi-legal space overnight doing blow in the corners.
lots and lots of techno.
Does anyone remember the pseudo graphical RPG where you'd play as a alphabetical character and the terrain/mobs around you we're also alphabinetical characters? It was basically in a DOS prompt I'm pretty sure. The mobs/terrain would be different colors etc indicating pathways and so forth.

I NEED TO GET BACK TO GOLDEN AGE
Antagonist & ANT 1138 on AOL.
It was a game and sci-fi brand that featured ANT 1138 and his cohorts, who were really just journalists that assumed this weird sort of dystopian rebel persona.
In hindsight, it was pretty cool. At the time though, it seemed incoherent because i knew jack shit about all the Sci-fi staples scattered about the place.
Audiogalaxy for music, man that was the shit... Right click find more peers for hours to download one mp3 in 45 minutes.... Good days...

born 1971 here. I have srs nostalgia for early tech. Saw a TRS80 when I was 5. My cousins put a magnet over the screen (CRT) and it bent the picture.
New tech is interesting but often bullshit. When I first saw facebook I thought this shit is what they would have killed for during the cold war - building up networks with private info. Who's talking to who etc. Who would fucking hand over there info like that.

I remember something called Audiogalaxy that worked in two parts. You ran a program that did the downloading, but queued songs through a web interface. Mp3s rolled in in about 12 seconds a piece and this was back around when I first got cable.
>>751727380
Right. Zuck's famous words haunt the truth to this day. FB or not now we're all in the botnet...fucking sucks man.
I was 3 or 4 when my parents first bought a Micron tower. 28.8 connection. My literal first memories were the sound of that modem. I can still remember looking in complete awe and shock. Something we find as simple as e-mail... completely novel back then. It literally shaped my entire life. I'm a I.T. contractor by profession, STEM graduate...
Certainly one of a handful(colloquially speaking) of people on 4chan that we're here in it's beginning moments.
Sigh.
