Is it saying to divide (9-3) by (1/3+1) or is it saying divide 3 by 1/3? You could argue all day and night which one it is but the reality is that it is written in an ambiguous way.

First off most of the problems arise from the 3\(1/3) but if we make the other 3 a fraction, we can multiplie them by getting the reciprocal of the first fraction. So 3/(1/3) is the same as (3/1)/(1/3), which is also the same as (3/1) * (3/1), which is 9. Now because we have done division first, we do addition and subtraction, but since only addition and subtraction are left we do it in the order it is written, not the order of bedmas. So 9-9+1 = 1

The problem with this equation is that the horizontal line creating the fraction causes ambiguity. It can be perceived to either denote a fraction (0.333) or to denote division (1 / 3). If it were to denote division the equation would read 3 / 1 / 3 which equals 1 thus making the equation equal 9. But if it denotes a fraction it would read 3 / 0.333 which equals 9 thus making the equation equal 1.
