i love it and this why i post this pics but , to be honnest , the style of wes anderson is very unique and particular. it's not for everyone i think
i was a little depressed when i watch it , having a bad week and watching it was great . i recommand this one because the characters are great , the style and the way of filming are unique but not overcomplicated and it make me feel good .
some consider it overrated, but I think Fight Club is the best movie ever made
>>748183322
sold...i'll check it tomorrow
lately I've been losing patience for shitty films which is my own bullshit biases acting, but the result is I am slow to pick up and try a new movie

This is the film which virtually invented modern cinema. It was so far ahead of its time that no one knew what the hell to make of it when it came out. There's a good reason why nearly every major critic has this film in their top 10 of all time.
I have to say, though, that I'm disappointed in most of the choices here. You can tell /b/ is mostly children these days. No M? No Metropolis? No Nosferatu? No Third Man? No Bicycle Thieves? No Stalker? #Sad

>>748185353
I watched Metropolis, Third Man and Bicycle Thieves. While I do enjoy these movies, they don't live up to todays standards. Old doesn't mean great.
here some capekino
>>748185004
Hell yes
>>748185305
I guess it depends on what you value. Solaris is the better film in terms of acting and narrative, but Stalker is all about mood. The atmosphere it crafts is unparallelled.
>>748185449
Those films I listed are widely regarded as some of the best films ever made, and every single one of them is analyzed extensively in film school. A real cinephile would know that.

The Preacher from Night of the Hunter is every bit as sinister as Anton Chigurh. The shadow looming over the little girl in M is just as haunting as the twins in The Shining. The smile on Harry Lime's face in The Third Man's big reveal is as subtle and shocking as anything you'll find in The Silence of the Lambs. The fact that you've grown accustomed to the tropes of modern cinema doesn't make those tropes any less artificial, and in 75 years people will find them just as quaint as you do those of 75 years ago.

it's funny that you remenber this quote because it's my favourites quote of this film.
i think about it once every year .
>>748186732
What you mean by "improved" is more naturalistic. That's not a metric I use for judging the objective value of a film. Naturalism has a place the same way surrealism and expressionism do, but the only reason you consider it mandatory is because it's what you grew up with.

Nope, it takes place in a monster prison located in a cave next to a cabin in the woods that only in used in one scene where the protagonists car breaks down and they wander in. Also the girl is the only one left alive at the end your welcome.

yeah and in 75 years people like you will say 2010's cinema is where it's at.
>>748182686
I haven't seen this one but I imagine all Wes Andersons movies are pretty much the same. To me they feel disingenuous, like the stories and how they play out seem dishonest. Recurring topics for him are naivity and distance between people, (misunderstandings?) but it doesn't get anywhere. And when touching on serious topics like love, distrust, death, it feels like he doesn't dare to go into it himself, I don't get any feeling him *personally having any need* to explore these topics.
So yea, to me they seem flat and his visual expressions have been done better by the directors who inspired him.
W.A. has the kind of the movies your mother, if she's >50 yo, would think is "so charming, new and fresh and challenging".
>>748184742
movie itself it not very enjoyable until you casually start thinking about how it applies to the present times while you are doing your wife

Chuck Palahniuk, the guy who wrote the book, said in a reddit AMA that people can interpret the ending however they want. It might be a bit lazy, but I think it's a perfect ending, better even than the original book ending.
The narrator guy shot himself in the cheek, which isn't necessarely deadly. Maybe Tyler was part of this, obviously Tyler doesn't want him to shoot Tyler/himself.
To me, the holding hands scene represents the narrator accepting the truth, accepting that he wants Marla. There's a lot more than that, but I'm tired and bad at explaining things.

I'm genuinely curious if anyone has stepped back and thought about this yet. I mean, its a new movie, and it was good, and beautifully shot, so the praise is legitimate. But when I actually thought back on it, it didn't do anything new. It really just rehashed all of the concepts from the first one.
>>748190905
A lot of people seem to like it. If your idea of a good sci-fi movie is watching closeups of a guys facial expressions of "deep thoughts" for several hours then you'll love it.
I have to see all "sci-fi" movies just because, but I wish someone told me that it's not sci-fi.
