Basically many tribes in the north east created an area where they could live near one another, yet separate to follow their own specific tribe's cultural practices. They even had laws that applied to all, like the outlaw of cannibalism and other various things they found barbaric.
So to say that the natives had no concept of a country is untrue, they just viewed land and natural resources differently, because many chose to live as part of the land, where as western ideologies almost always dictate that land/resources can be permanently owned and traded. I can honestly say it is one of the most factually rich things I've watched. It is a mix of a history lesson, as well as modern day tribesmen talking about the cultures in modern day America. But I never felt it was trying to guilt me or make me feel a certain way, other than who I react to the presumable truths of history. But like all history, it is just what we agree upon. I suppose it depends on where you live. My state is actually an equal balance of red and blue, so there is no over take of on set political beliefs. So I think people here tend to be more understanding for the most part, or at the very least at civil. Of course there are crazies, but they are a minority when you look at the population size.
