If I were a critic, I'd be looking for all manner of things to take seriously about it, and getting all pissed off because it doesn't fit my idea of what every fucking sci-fi show should be.
Niggers, there are hundreds of channels on tv playing shows like 24/7, and nearly all of it is fucking garbage. We get ONE sci-fi show, ONE, and it has to be a Star Trek TNG clone? It doesn't. Sci-Fi can be different shit. Hell it's not even that different. Fucks sake, we have one sci-fi show, and it's not out-star trekking Star Trek, bc that's what sci-fi shows are, better cancel it right away.
It doesn't even matter if the show's going to be hit or miss or take a whole season to settle into. There's one fucking show where we get to spend time in the future instead of watching reality shows and annoying cunt parades.
Fucking cry about the fact there's some small amount of dry humor or witty repartee in it, god forbid.

>>746077499

>>746077402
I thought about that too but the only classification for a ship is something that carries you through water (in this case space) of sufficient size. Seeing as the SF dwarfs even mega star destroyers and carries people through space, it is indeed a ship.
>>746077346
>>746077440
I personally wouldent be suprised, trekky reception to STD have been very negative because it looks like just another dark stupid action drama like all the other space shows (which that format destroyed Stargate mind you so it will likely destroy Star Trek) where the Orville, regardless of the stupid "humor" is closer to star trek than Star Trek Discovery in terms of look feel, optimism, and philosophy.
So I don't personally think the people behind STD are paying off critics it wouldn't suprise me.

>>746077346
I was thinking of that, but I gotta say man. I just downloaded and rewatched it a few weeks ago, and man... that is a hard one to watch. ...or listen to. Paul Rubens is doing the Pee Wee routine & voice but it's like they didn't give him a script, so he's just rambling about nothing endlessly, and then they clearly ran out of money before shooting the end of the film, and the ship just turns around, drops the kid off at home, and that's the end. Doesn't hold up real well. Seems like just an excuse to show off the new 3d Modeling & Rendering capabilities of the time.
When I first heard they were considering remaking it I was like ehhh why they gotta shit on every aspect of my childhood... but then after seeing it, it's a little like, yeah, that might be cool actually. And add a story this time.

Yeah, SGU got more hate than it deserved. I thought the story/plot was cool, and the like you said the setting was very interesting. It didn't the quality of writing that SG-1 had, or hell, even SGA. But living up to SG-1 is almost impossible, so I give it a pass for that. I really wish they would finish the story...

Oh yeah, at this point it isn't happening, which really sucks. The whole hidden message embedded in the fabric of the universe was very Carl Sagan's Contact (book, they cut if from the movie).
I was also really sad when the SG-1 MMO got scrapped. I played some of the beta and it was so much fun. It had all of fun of SG-1, with good action, and amazing settings. Fucking licensing killed it when MGM bought it.

Seems like it would be easier to close that in, instead of leaving huge gaps. It'd be easier to keep airtight, sealing one big cylinder, than having to seal every fucking building one at a time, and those giant gaps sure do let the sunlight through, but also all the fucking constant hail of dust and micrometeorites and space debris traveling at 20,000mph. Seems like it'd be easier to seal the whole thing, then leave big windows full of water there, so the sun shines through it, you get the gas engine of having vast shallow seas, and micrometeorites are easily detectable from water leaks. Then as you pass by comets and whatever else, your ships go out and wrangle them in and add to your resource cache.
I really can't fucking sleep at all.
>>746078927

This show is the single most contrived, badly written and sold out piece if shit I have ever seen, right there with Sherlock and Doctor Who. Anyone who watches it is either a low-test manlet or a 15-17 year old girl who thinks she's special whilst being exceptionally average with a shitty personality to match. I had to watch twelve seasons of two brothers look at each other like they wanted to fuck in every other scene, argue and then sometimes fight monsters while fighting with demons like they're just playing a god fucking awful game of hide and seek. The only reason I went through that god awful experience is because I was fucking one of those exceptionally unexceptional girls with a shitty personality, and as a result was educated in the network I've named Big Black Cock, because I've never felt more raped by anything in my life. In closing, fuck you for existing and encouraging trash to perpetuate in this god awful earth. Hang yourself with your pencil dick, after drawing a "salt circle" to keep the demons out and crying when nothing "spoopy" happens.

Hell yes.
Not even slightly hard choice. Lucrehulk with a full load of troops, fighters, tansport ships, tanks, and other goodies would be amazing. Would start by going to Mars and building a giant factory to build more droids while sending scouts to the gas giants look for gasses that could be used in blaster tech (not only tibanna). Then comes the great conquest of Earth. Join or prepare thine anus.
Of course if you allow stations I'm going with the Star Forge. Park it on the opposite side of the sun from Earth and shit out an endless fleet of droids, ships, and weapons. Again, once I'm confident in my forces Earth will be under new management.
Either way Earth will very rapidly become a spacefaring world of technological wonders. Will also start working to terraform Mars.

Two solutions to your problem right there. Gonna go see a FB fap thread now and do something productive.

Like my dude have you seen the specs on that shit (no I'm not a part of the shitty ass sonic fandom) but this egg of death is just let me show you; it’s a superweapon that might be used to threaten any population into submission. The superlaser might, in this case be the two eyes, which can each fire a relatively weak laser when compared to the Death Star’s planet destroyer.;the Death Egg is about 2.5 km across, or 1.5 miles.; SEE MY BOI THIS IS GUT TECH

It's a shame about what std is, and what Star Trek is becoming. Gene wanted Star Trek to have meaning. There were subtle social and political references everywhere, and it brought philosophy into an easy to understand format. Gene didn't want Star Trek to be a standard action movie or show, he wanted it to mean something. Now Star Trek is just gay generic action movie with lasers.

HA! STAR WARS WAS ALWAYS THE BEST
>>746086836
Different type of sci-fi
Star Wars is space opera
Star trek is not
The Bebop. Easily.

As long as your Ship goes nowhere near a Halo campaign, you'll do fine
USS Valkyrie
Star Trek objectively has the best ships to command, because you can hook up with green skinned bikini wearing Orion women
or if you're Riker, you can hook up with anything with an orifice

It's acually kind of cool, sci-fi can be broken down into distinctive categories.
Star Wars is space opera or science fantasy.
Star Trek kind of bounces between soft sci-fi and hard sci-fi but is also a morality play
Stargate is military sci-fi
The expanse is space opera with hard sci-fi elements
Farscape is a drug trip

Star Trek is comfort, Star Wars is warfare. Lot of the federation "warships" were glorified cruise liners with guns. Trek has a couple things Wars can't beat for sure though. Replicators and holodecks would be gods damned amazing. Keep your transporters though. I'm not exactly keen on the idea of it possibly killing the real me and creating a replica that can't even prove it's a replica.

i would rather be captain of a cruise liner with guns and cruise for planets full of women in bikinis than fight whatever Empire variant is running the galaxy this week. plus, it looks like most of the women in Star Wars are owned by Hutts, or are your sister, or are Mon Mothma

Don't you dare tell me you wouldn't hatefuck Mon Mothma's pacifist ideal right out of her.
Really though, I'll stick with the lucrehulk still. You can get some serious luxury onboard one of those too. IMO the ultimate ship combining both franchises would be a lurehulk with a holodeck and a replicator bay big enough to fart out entire fully stocked C-9979 landers. It's like much smaller more luxurious star forge without the need to gorge itself on a star period. You can also fuck all the holobitches. Endless droid armies and the ultimate waifu simulator in a ship that can glass continents with sustained bombardment or send a landing fleet to conquer them.
>ywn bombard the middle east or north korea from orbit while plowing best girl

I'm a fan of both Star Wars and Star Trek, but a luxury exploration 'battle cruiser' would be more fun to command than a warship. the BattleStar Galactica, the Andromeda, even a Republic Cruiser all lack basic amenities. of course, Star Trek ships may lack showers and bathrooms so maybe the Galactica is the way to go
