From what I've been told, it depends on what your use is. If it's for gaming, you're probably going to be GPU limited anyways and an i7 will do.

>>746068066
Ya, the i9s are basically the "more cycles than you could ever need" editions. An i7 will be more than enough. I actually only have an i5 in mine. Though their naming is a little confusing since they release a new i3, i5, and i7 each time. If your focus is gaming, the GPU is where you should put the most into.

Maybe it's just my experience, but it seems like most people in the furry community (any facet) are either morbidly obese, have a lack of personal hygiene, have a list of mental disorders or are cringworthy.
It's sad. I enjoy the art, have dated a few 7/10 furries, but they all turn out to be crazy or make horrible life choices. Are there not any 5.5-7+ furries out there that are somewhat normal, and kinky?
(Not bait. I'm genuinely curious)
Kid rock is a paradox.

>>746068066
You should lurk/ask around /g/, they were incredibly hyped about Ryzen and Threadripper and dissed Intel for mixing old and new architectures for the current line up, limiting features (basically the priciest i9 has them all, then it's gradually cut) and so on (also a housefire).
>>746068535
Tides have changed. Adding real cores > faking cores.
>>746068110

I have some anxiety problems, but I think I'm fairly attractive and well-adjusted otherwise
I think you're overestimating the thin and saneness of the general population, actually
>>746068740
in my experience and condition, I turned toward furry girls because human faces remind me of the girls that would make fun of me in highschool. Parents never taught me how to wash, which made me get fun of, which made me care less about myself and the feedbackloop went on.
Human faces look full of ridicule. The stacys and chads all look the same and I just expect them to start making fun of me.

>>746068853
AMD has always done the more cores things. But each core in general performs less than a single Intel core. That being said, I've seen some benchmarks showing that their newer ones outperform for the price. But I'm still going to stick with Intel until I see solid evidence of them still performing well in "niche" scenarios like hypervisors and whatnot.
>>746068853
Eh, I don't care that much. I just want a PC I can use for a few years. I don't really need top of the line stuff or crazy power.

Single-core performance is getting less and less relevant, it's pretty much the only thing Intel has an upper hand at. There was a funny thing in tests where AMD CPUs clocked at 4.0 GHz outperformed Intel alternatives at 4.5 GHz.
>>746069384
I know, but I've had my laptop for almost four and a half years and I use it more as a desktop than I have as a laptop. In the sense that it never leaves my desk. Plus, I miss having a real PC power/footwarmer, monitor and keyboard.
>>746069441
Cool man, sorry that it's such a short time between shifts.
>>746069413
That's actually not at all what I said.. I said they perform better in benchmarks, which are usually very basic operations, not anything like virtualization or hell even Linux support. So basically, to me features > raw power.
>>746069483
I wouldn't say that... especially when a lot of software still isn't even written to utilize multiple cores.
>>746069598
Eh, shit happens.
>>746069297
that's a pretty interesting situation? I might not be able to read expressions right either. Furry faces, because they're art, are full of love and acceptance lol. Mostly lust and beckoning.
Human faces are always full of "look at me" and "I hope you are upholding the correct values of society"
>>746069598
And that is what a few guys on /tpg/ do. They use small laptops as desktop replacements, and just add eGPUs.
Nothing wrong with building a desktop, just question yourself if you really need to trade off so many things for it.
>>746068957
I'll admit my sample size is limited to maybe 100 people in various social circles. Out of those people, the guys tend to have been picked on for some form or another, and the gal's tended to feel like outsiders for some reason and gravitated to the furry lifestyle.
I get the psychology behind it, and i understand how welcoming the community can be, and how poisonous it can be too.
By crazy I mean attention craving and bi-polar (actual diagnosis not someone just saying it). By bad life choices I mean, foregoing jobs to do shit like game, calling out sick due to colds, loosing apartments due to instability or poor financial decisions. Choosing to go live with a drug dealer over taking care of a kid. Sleeping around just to feel needed. Poor personal habits like poor nutrition, lack of grooming due to not seeing themselves, but their fursona in the mirror (a perfect self).
To be fair, i've dated 1 or 2 seemingly stable furries that were alright, but just didn't work out b/c they couldn't get their lives together, and things turned out to be "too real" and "too good" for them (legit quotes. idk wth that was about, but w/e)
I'm not salty, it just seems to be a trend and I can't wrap my head around it. It honestly makes me a bit sad about it for some reason.
Also, my mate/ ex-flatmate is a furry, and so is his wife. Both of them could fill a good portion of the DSM-V with their craziness. lol

>>746069818
I've seen some things saying eGPUs might start making a comeback. I sure hope so.
>>746069818

>>746069901
Making a comeback?
When were they ever huge in the first place?
>>746069943
Could you not use your already-existing laptop for the same things and just add stuff on top of it?
>>746069819
I've definitely noticed that some folks in the community can be a little more emotional, and a little more "weird" for lack of a better word, but I don't think either of those are bad things. Really, I think society as a whole should do more to be accepting of these sorts of people.
>>746069696
would love me a chick who could play bass guitar
>>746069854
my parents used to think I was retarded. I remember them checking my hands as a child for that line that's supposed to mean you have downs syndrome. I am pretty sure I have aspergers but my entire family rages at me whenever I bring it up.
My mother was diagnosed with disassociative disorder or whatever, and everything I read really lines up with that.
>>746069818
What's the point? You can get a nice mATX case and put it under the desk. Laptop CPUs are weaker and are prone to insufficient cooling, eGPUs perform worse. Display is too small/hard to adjust. Mechanical keyboard is nicer to type on. Sure, you can connect external keyboard and display, but what's the point? Then you'll have underperforming rectangle that cost you more that eats up space on your desk.
>>746069819
Am I crazy in thinking that a partnership should be two people supporting each other instead of expecting the other to be 100% perfect? If not I should probably just give up.
>>746070041
Ya, I guess they never really were..
>>746070110
I was just thinking about that today, how this fandom really makes you realize that often the people who seem "quirky" at first glance are actually the most interesting and nice.
>>746070143
I agree with you
in a good relationship people supplement each others weaknesses with their unique strengths
>>746070041
I could, but it's so out of date that I don't think it's worth doing that, instead of just starting from scratch.
Especially with how much cooling I could potentially use here and sitting down at a desk and staring at a screen all day is ergonomically easier with a desktop.
Laptop screens sit too low to be comfortable for prolonged use with strain. Desktops don't have that problem
>>746069222
I was using it for example.
From a biological perspective and subconscious perspective we all rate people.
When you walk down the street you don't notice every member of your preferred sex. You only notice the ones that catch your eye.
Also.
In a room full of 50 matches, you might notice everyone there, but you will only remember a handful that stood out to you. That's your brain telling you what's close to your possibilities.
Look up attraction. It's quite interesting. We all have a type of rating system that our brains perform for possible matches.
I'm not implying or saying i go around going, She's a 5, 6, 7, etc. I was implying that those people from the outside seemed to have themselves together, presented themselves well, and had good genetics enough to have good facial and physical structures.
>>746070130
>Laptop CPUs are weaker and are prone to insufficient cooling, eGPUs perform worse
Weaker yes, but good enough.
>>746070130
>but what's the point? Then you'll have underperforming rectangle that cost you more that eats up space on your desk.
It's better than having an overperforming minifridge that you paid too much for and of which cost far outweighs its utility.
>>746070143
AFAIK the only real "boom" in eGPUs was when ready-made Thunderbolt ones became mainstream because of Razer, but the other 95% of eGPUs is still as underground as it was before.
>>746070326
The cooling isn't great perhaps, but it's good enough (ie, stops from throttling).
Most other problems people have about laptops can be solved with add-on stuff.
>>746070260
Which is why nobody exists that could fill in the gaps I leave. Maybe a demigod.

All the cash you spend to improve your laptop is still cash you need to spend to render your desktop usable as well.
>>746069419

Ya, I really like PoE! I actually backed it way back when it first went up on kickstarter since it's my cousin's company who made it, but just kept neglecting to play too much of it before forgetting it again. I finished it a few weeks ago. I definitely like really complex games like that, but they do require a lot of involvement.

>>746070376
>Weaker yes, but good enough.
Until fan starts whining annoyingly loud and CPU throttles under a slightest bit of a load. And yes, you'll need a stand-alone PSU for eGPU.
>overperforming minifridge that you paid too much for
By default desktop cost is lower for better and more stable performance. The only utility of a "desktop-replacing laptop" is that it's stolen slightly more easier. If you need a portable computer for light work on the go, stand-alone older laptop or even a tablet is good.
>>746070143
That's exactly how a relationship should work. People should support one another. The best relationships are where two people support one another, and push one another to betterment, and personal greatness.
No one is perfect. We can just strive to be the best version of ourselves, and help out one another.
In the cases I was mentioning was that those people were self destructive and ran from support unless they hit rock bottom, and even then they were self destructive with their decisions and behavior
>>746070567
>>746070126 isn't me lol
I will admit I do have depression, anxiety, and PTSD thanks to a wonderful childhood. You wouldn't know unless I told you though. I'm the outgoing (despite anxiety attacks and a lot of forcing myself to do it) empathetic, happy, thoughtful, friendly, and make everyone smile or laugh guy at work and with my friends.
Def. not autistic though.
.
>>746070798
I know.
So why not have two computers? It doesn't make sense to me, to modify my laptop to the point where all it does is sit on my desk as a desktop.
It's simple economics. Why should I invest into something further to where I'll get less use out of it instead of investing that money into something else that's as usable and retain the benefits of both
I would rather have a desktop for my desk and a laptop when I need it

The cost of his laptop now is $0 since he already has one.
The cost of his desktop is a lot more since he doesn't have one.
>>746071118
Because the cost of a desktop PC is additional cost on top of all those modifications.
>>746071219
Tired?
>>746071238
Because I wouldn't make those modifications.
I would keep my laptop as is, and build a desktop. so that I have a laptop I can use as a laptop and a desktop when I actually want to use a PC.
If the cost of those modifications you are proposing and the lowered utility of my now modified laptop costs the same as a desktop, why not do that, retain my laptop and benefit from both?

Thanks. Though, I don't see how having depression, anxiety, and a slight case of PTSD while making good life choices means I'm crazy or unstable.
I've never had an issue with domestic violence.
Matter of fact, I've co-facilitated courses on batterers intervention and couples classes (requirement to co-facilitate the batterers intervention courses) I've had stable income since I was 16. I make responsible decisions. I'm in med. school currently, and I'm working a full-time job.
I have a long list of community service and volunteer hours for various things (all my choice, not due to some legal bs)
I haven't had a suicide attempt in 14 years.
I'm a pillar of stability. Which, is why everyone comes to me for help, be it advice, emotional support, help fixing something, or w/e.
