However, due to internal politics, the NSA "shut down" Thin Thread a few months before 9/11, stopping investigation of the suspected terrorists. After 9/11, the reason for this became obvious: the NSA and the rest of the security apparatus of the United States would get all the funding they ever needed so they could pursue terrorism.
TL;DR of my tl;dr: the NSA is corrupt, allowed 9/11 to happen, and likely is spying on every single person on earth as we speak. This film proves it.

So I actually felt he was an interesting antagonist, the part that got me foaming-at-the-mouth mad was when they killed the protagonist OFF FUCKING CAMERA. They just throw traditional story structure and the whole monomyth out the fucking window. Which is fine, but then you have to find another path to your resolution, but they don't. Nothing closes out, there is no ending and the movie just kind of stops.
The people who like this piece of shit will claim that this is what makes it good, but the Coen brothers just aren't competent enough to make that large of a departure from traditional story telling and still make it work.
Getting up their own asses at the expense of the film is kind of their shtick.

Different anon here, can confirm that Tropic Thunder is an outstanding comedy. That's where the "Never go full retard" line comes from but there's so many other side splitting parts besides that sequence. Tom Cruise is funny in this as well and the rest of the cast is pretty well balanced.
FourLeaf Tayback (Nick Nolte) is hilarious. Ben Stiller is hilarious. Watched it with expectations and forgetting that I had seen commercials for it and was surprised.

Excellent film. Significantly darker than when I read it in high school. Between the music, the acting, the lighting, you truly felt like Macbeth had created a living hell for his people. How one man while just and courageous as a warrior, is not always just and courageous as a leader. And all thanks to his whore wife for planting the desire for power in his head.
