Unfortunally the 335i has known wastegate issue on both turbos. The rod worns loose and rattles quite badly. Also the wastegate doesnt close properly if affected. Easy repair is to get new turbos but not straight from BMW or repair the old ones. Cost is about 1.5-2k

The wastegate issues you cite may be real. But I've driven hoards of turbo cars in various states of tune...the issue of the N54 are not directly turbo related. Have to be control box, butterfly throttle or throttle by wire related.
It's very distinct - floor the go pedal. Absolutely NO reaction for about 1/2 a second. I mean none. I know and even enjoy some kinds of turbo lag - this ain't it. Massive throttle design fuckup.

Where I live, I'd estimate that around 80-90% of cars on the road are manuals. Where for most of you it's a discussion of how a manual gives you more "fun" when driving but you can see how an automatic would be more convenient for a daily driver, I live in a culture where people will argue for manuals in city traffic. With an average speed under 10kph in rush hour traffic...
Over here some people will seriously tell you that they CANNOT drive an automatic. Or they are scared to do so because they're too used to having to use the clutch, like they don't know what to do with their left foot without it.
Or they will argue for how a manual gives them more control and quicker gear changes... on entry-level shitboxes with around 50-60 bhp.

Just to point out there's a tiny pricing difference between auto's and manuals in the UK, usually within £1k of each other on a new car, and no difference at all in the 2nd hand market.
People just learn to drive manuals here because it's a separate driving license (you can drive both auto + manual), but if you get a license for automatics that's all you can legally drive.

No, I would never buy a Merc, I've worked on too many to ever buy one(And Merc based license built vehicles). Never had much to do with Volvo's but the Honda will be reliable as shit but parts costs are high.
