My father studied fine art in the 60's. In studio they tried to replicate a Pollock, dripping paint on canvases. Nothing they did even came close. An artist's brush strokes and distribution of pallet are as unique as handwriting.

It also helps that I had a very RockwellIan childhood, myself, and this makes it much easier for me to sympathize with him. However, there are many people in the world who's reality couldn't be further from the comfy surroundings of one of his pieces.

I have to agree. Basquiat was way late on the abstract expressionist bandwagon, and he incorporated one of the most vapid forms of art (gaffitti) into it. It was like a child imitating De Kooning, sucking all the life out of it, and turning it into juvenile cave drawings.
