People compare the two because they are both divisive of the population of their country and promote aggressiveness toward the minorities in their country. Both are also leaders of a country that has a great degree of frustration among its population due to lack of chance for improvement in their current livelihood. Hitler's government turned a blind eye to the goings-on of certain "radical" groups of people who went around kicking the crap out of jews who wouldn't salute the nazi flag, for example. Just imagine if a group of people stormed onto a football field, kicked Kaepernick's ass, and no one did anything about it. In fact, a lot of people cheered for it. And then imagine it happening nationwide to anyone who wouldn't stand for the national anthem. And Trump might say "Now, now, we have to quit doing this," but he says it with a wink and a smile.

Also, contrary to popular belief, Hitler didn't have a beef with most ethnicities. Sure, he DID consider there to be a pecking order of races ("Aryan" whites on top and Hebrews on bottom). But generally speaking, he had no problems with Mediterranean whites, negroes, Arabs, American Indians, etc. Hell, many different ethnic nations such as Turkey were at least partially allied with Germany.

I'd compare him more to Mussolini really. Mussolini gets overshadowed by Hitler, and is usually regarded as basically mini-Hitler from Italy. Plus he wasn't as popular amongst Italians as Hitler was Germans.
He was quite a bit different than Hitler though, and in many ways considered Hitler full of shit. He didn't give a fuck about racial purity, because he believed that there were no pure races, and that we are all mutts.
