Write down every cop force that the feds have published a report about that says, you know, fuckface criminals beating people and getting away with it, disproportionate amounts of force, basically a city full of corrupt cops that belong in prison but got away with it.
Here's a partial list: Chicago, Houston (the third and fourth biggest cities in the US), Seattle, Miami, Albuquerque, San Francisco, Minneapolis. There are at least a dozen more. Including Ferguson!
Now, write down a list of places where the Justice Department investigated the cops and had no complaints afterwards. Here's a complete list: (crickets chirping)

Not the guy you responded to buy most cops ARE decent people. The problems are both the ones that are bad people and the general unspoken policy they almost all follow... Protecting their blue brothers. They need to be held accountable for their actions. For the most part currently, they are not. There needs to be change.
Police have to deal with the dregs of society all day every day they work. That surely would cause most people to dehumanize the those dregs and by extension probably most civilians.
We need standardized training nationwide.
I'm not sure but I think most large municipal department have their officers working four 10 hour shifts or something like it. Regardless of that they should maybe have a single shift a week policing a school or doing some other police/community work. This would help by getting the community engaged more with local PD and help to humanize citizens in the officer's eyes.
