When I was 12 years old, I was riding my bike around the neighborhood by myself when I heard a noise coming from the alleyway behind the corner convenience store. It sounded like an animal in distress!

Upon further investigation, I found that it wasn't an animal but a little fluffy foal. The cause of his distress looked like a broken chunk of a box cutter blade embedded in his right front hoof. Being the fine, upstanding young citizen I was at that age, I couldn't just leave him like that so I ended up taking him home. I didn't know much about medicine but I did know from watching One Piece that all wounds can be cured if you wrap them up with enough bandages.

After removing the metal, I doused the foal's hoof with hydrogen peroxide. He screamed bloody murder but I knew it was for the best. Who knows what germs were on that blade and I thought it might even prevent tetanus. Hey, I was 12 okay?

With the wound disinfected, I proceeded to mummify his whole leg. I named my new fluffy "Fred" and kept him in a box in my treehouse.

I thought I was pretty smart with how I hid Fred. Apparently not so much because my parents found him on the second day.

I came home from school to find Fred and his box sitting on the kitchen table. My parents called a family meeting to discuss the matter. Despite my protests, I was out voted in my bid to keep Fred as a pet. Not only that, my father insisted that Fred should be killed because he was a feral and therefore part of our city's "problems". I was forced to watch helplessly as Fred was carried out onto the back patio and had his head unceremoniously crushed by a decorative cement lawn gnome.

Fast forward to Christmas.

I was 13 now having had my birthday in October. After opening presents on Christmas morning which included a new Daisy Red Ryder for me to shoot my eye out with, my mother retreated to her reading room and returned with another gift for me.

A gift with air holes in the box.

At first, I thought, "Holy shit! They got me a hamster!! Fucking awesome!!" When I opened the box; however, what greeted me was a little blue fluffy foal. It was sleeping soundly on top of a thin bedding pad. In my best imitation of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, I raised The People's Eyebrow.

"Merry Christmas dear!" My parents cheered.

"I thought I wasn't allowed to have a pet fluffy?" I asked, a little perplexed.

"We didn't say that." My father shook his head. "We said that you couldn't have a dirty feral in the house."

"This one's from a breeder." My mother chimed in. "He has papers."

I looked back at the sleeping foal. Apparently, the difference between living and dying in my house had to do with the circumstances of one's birth and the piece of paper to prove it. Nevertheless, I now owned a pet fluffy.

"I'm going to name him Buddy." I announced.

The first thing I did was to hop on to Fluffchan. According to Buddy's paperwork, he was only two weeks old. I needed to educate myself on how to properly care for an unweaned fluffy foal. The gurus on Fluffchan recommended feeding Buddy on heavy cream for at least another week or until his teeth started coming in which was the signal that he was ready to begin weaning. I could keep him in an open cardboard box but he'd be happier in a foal pen. I should begin litter training as soon as possible and there were several methods listed for doing this depending on the foal's temperament. Other than that, just make sure to play with him and to include him in as many human activities as possible. A lack of social interaction can cause them to believe they're unloved and can result in their brain literally shutting off.

Not wanting Buddy to lose his marbles, I first made him a Foalster from an old winter mitten with a strap stapled to it so I could hang it around my neck. Buddy loved it. He'd sit in there and enjoy the ride as I carried him around the house.

As for Buddy's sleeping arrangements, I repurposed an old shoe box with some terrycloth for bedding. Buddy seemed comfortable and at least he didn't try to climb out of it at night.

Night time.

Like human babies, fluffy foals need to be fed at night too. Caring for Buddy gave me a little more respect for what my folks went through with me.

is one of the best strips there is. It shows how strong a fluffies need for socialization and group acceptance really is, with how fast the foal makes itself sad through anxiety.

The rest kind of pales, but it tells us that at least this fluffy has not enough brain power to register different kinds of spaghetti.

My parents took to having Buddy around as well. My father, the guy who smashed a foal's skull to pulp right in front of me, now played the same baby games with my foal as I'm sure he did with me. Mom treated Buddy as though he were my newborn brother.

Weaning Buddy went as good as can be expected. I checked his mouth daily until New Year's eve when I noticed the beginnings of white nubs poking through his gums. I started Buddy on 20% cooked oatmeal and 80% warm cream.

He puked all over the dining room table.

I scaled back to 10/90 which he was able to keep down. By 11 pm, he was eating 30/70 with no trouble.

My family stayed up to watch the ball drop in Times Square. Buddy...not so much. He slept through New Year's. Maybe next year.

Wow. I feel like a dumbass now. I enjoy the themes of alienation as much as the next guy but in this instance I just thought it was a funny strip.

In reality, it took six weeks; however, it seemed like Buddy was a roly poly little weanling one day and then a roly poly adult fluffy the next. This was what parent's meant when they refer to their children "growing up so fast."

As an adult fluffy, Buddy was much more active. We could do more things together that I was afraid to do when he was smaller.

Like flying down a snow covered hill on a tractor inner tube. The only problem is that if you live in northern climes then you know what happens when you hit the jump at the end of the hill. Now imagine that but with a bundled up fluffy on board.

It didn't end well for either of us and I don't mean in a comical way. I remember that was my first time seeing a compound fracture.

Do you just wait to post this one image?

Your timing is impeccable.

I hope you continue.

I'm not going to do it but if somebody else starts and bumps a new thread, I'll contribute. Pretty sure this one is gonna 404 sooner rather than later.

>>713899633
Well, I have it because I made the edit. Might as well post when I see a fluffy thread maxes out.
>>
>>713899925

i've seen you drop it a couple times before and it always makes me laugh, maybe because i've seen the image in its original context

The vet charged a hefty bill for fixing up Buddy's leg. I remember crying like a little bitch and apologizing to him over and over. My parents gave me absolute shit for being so irresponsible with him and putting him in danger in the first place. Fluffies were an indoor-only pet after all.

Buddy's leg never fully healed. Even though he walked with a limp for the rest of his life, he didn't complain of any pain and it didn't seem to affect our relationship. It might have been because I made sure to pile on extra hugs and tummy rubs and to sneak him some apple slices or grapes whenever they were available. Buddy loved those little extras.
