You can have a better time with airsoft and good friends than with actual guns and good friends since you don't line up and shoot at paper targets but have to use tactics, endurance and skill in order to win.
I just know someone will come here and say "but m.m.mmuh home defense". It's ok, you can have a gun for that, but softair fights are just so much more fun than shooting in a range. (If of course you weight less than 300 lbs, which of course is literally impossible to achieve.)

Depends on what you find fun tbh. Before I served all my friends played airsoft and we loved it, but now we just can't be asked to go out and play BBs with a bunch of faggots who don't call hit unless you jack your fps to 600 or pepper them.
Adult shooters can skeet shoot, go hunting, have timed shooting drills or do things like 3 gun events and various other activities.
Airsoft is good cardio and good for playing Army yes, but having been there and done that I would rather relax around a bunch of non pimpled non virgin experienced shooters and discuss things like battery assist devices for real rifles rather than what battery goes in my fake rifle.

I'm actually in the middle of getting my 1954 Win M70 in 30-06 gunsmith'd.
I work in a gun store so I get free gunsmithing and traded a trijicon ambient light reflex from my AR in order for my buddy to surprise me with a scope for the M70.
Gunsmith already put mounts on and beautifully repaired the original wooden stock for me. It had a crater in it from some plaque or something the previous owner inserted and removed. He built up the wood, turned it into a cheek rest and also matched the color with staining. There's a bolt action lover in the store that just started and he has been begging me to buy it but I'm like nope. I'm only in for like $640 on it but considering optic value I'm in for $1k. When shit is all said and done including gunsmithing value it's going to be probably a $1.5k private sale, but ofc I'm keeping it.

I know personally one of the best gunsmiths in the state of Florida and he is proud of the 1916 Luger he just got. A customer recently came in with one that served in WW1, made it to WW2 where his father killed the German officer with it and brought it home.
Also the wonderful bolt pattern you see on rifles like Winchesters is stolen from German design.
Winchester was paying Mauser during WW1 for copyright infringement. German firearms and German engineering in general are top notch and have a fantastic heritage.
I served for the states, and love my M1As, 1911s and all of that stuff too, but saying a weapon is garbage because a Nazi held it shows you know nothing about guns.
