I'm not a big fan of sci-fi either. I'm in the "Star Wars is fine, aside from that who cares" camp. Don't think of this as sci-fi, though. Think of it as RPG. Really, it is amazing. A bit clonky, but worth every second of playtime.
Plus, it leads to ME2, which is probably in the top 5 of RPGs ever made (and might be my personal favorite).

I was given ARK, which I really wanted to play with my cousin (and still do), but aside from that I never really get any big games I want, mainly because people see 250+ games and decide not to gift to me, so you're not really changing anything for me.
