This summer, I had a window unit A/C. It had a gap, and bugs (mostly moths) would always get in.

One day I looked up at the ceiling, and there was a praying mantis just chilling out.

I nick-named him pray-mantu, and we became best bros, as he ate the fuck out of those annoying moths.

I'm right there with you anon They are awesome.

No one but ignorant hill billies and eurotrash call them either of those names.
Their non-technical name is Roly-Polys.
see:
https://www.google. (delete this space) com/search?q=roly+poly&biw=1366&bih=634&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwiY2J6n0cXQAhXn24MKHY7hBrQQsAQILQ
When they are threatened they role up into balls that can roll around, the roly, which can be pulled open, the poly.
Stop spreading your ignorance.

True, but that's not the point.
The point is that the only correct non scientific name for them is roly-poly. Not fucking pillbugs, what the fuck pill looks like that? Not fucking potato bugs, I don't even know where the fuck that comes from. They are roly-polys, have always been called that and will always be called that by normal healthy people. Only mental rejects with supressed latent homosexual traits would try to spread disinformation by calling them anything else. Seriously, this fucking pisses me off. If people that don't call them their right fucking name (roly-polys) were a race I would totally reconsidered my opinions on genocide.

And when I found a way bigger mantis a few years later I kept it in a mouse house and fed it cockroaches. Let it go after a day or two.

Very cool and alien looking when they stalk, motionless except for the pivoting head.

Grabbed the roach in both spiky arms and chewed right through the middle. Good times.

Fuck yeah, roly polies! I remember fuckin' around with those cute bastards when I was a wee tyke. We'd build little houses for them out of pebbles and dirt. They're the only insect I would ever refer to as "cute."

best bugs on the planet.
I had a good run of 4 generations of a female. The egg sack or nest w/e it is usually hatches in the spring over the winter, but if kept in doors will hatch mid winter. hardest part is finding food for the lone survivor. Two years ago I couldn't find any fruit flies and the little guy died ... was sad.

I worked as a pool cleaner over the summer, and we use hydrochloric acid to balance pH in public pools.

Once I was pouring some into the pool and it got away from me a little, there was a walking stick chilling near the pool and the acid splashed on it

It started fizzing and bubbling (this acid will fuck up concrete) and when I went to look for the thing I couldn't even find a body. Only reason I knew it was a stick bug and not just a stick was because it started freaking the fuck out about the acid eating it alive, you know?

Had a kadydid infestation in my house, those things are nigh impossible to exterminate once they settle in. Bug bombs didn't work as they had some sort of safe space to retreat to when their family members started dying. Diatom earth didnt seem to work either. Well, mine is still a baby, so I have no reason to hold it at all. But even when I clean the cages of everything the most I'll get is hissing from the roaches. None of my tarantulas kick hair or even show signs of stress, my millipedes are always just buried in the substrate unless they're eating, and my vinegaroon just sort of chills in the corner until I'm done. The roaches hiss all the damn time. They're either hissing at me cause I'm feeding them, cleaning their tank, giving them fresh water, or they're fighting. The only time I've ever seen any o my spiders stressed is when first got them or just after they molted. Other than that they're all super relaxed.

Fucking roly-poly I've never even seen a woodlouse roll around

You're clearly trolling at this point but I'll bite the bait.

The Wiki page on them has woodlouse as the primary name so I'm not sure where you're coming from with the bumpkin thing when it's clearly the consensus name.

As for psychopath it's normal for kids to go through an insect killing stage, going further than that or onto bigger animals is where it indicated being disturbed.

I love my hissers. They're awesome pets, once you get them in your hand they tend to just crawl around. Mine like to crawl to the end of my fingers and just stay there.

I love how people repeat this shit like a bunch of sheep, as if not even something ad simple as a name can be trusted to be correct. Yes, you get a lot of lay-people misinterpreting advanced science and shit on Wikipedia but that doesn't make literally every simple thing on every wiki page completely unreliable. Bleat more faggot.

I'd think that's mostly gonna be in the heartland, places like Wyoming or Idaho. Not so much New England. I could be wrong about that though, idk.
