as well as a fuckton of other sci-fi, and it's better than all of them. It seems simple and short when you first read it, but when you really think about it has a deeper meaning, more interesting characters, and a great sci-fi premise. (if your opinion of it is based on the film, the film butchered it.)

the only science fiction book that surpasses it in my view is:
>>712572954

in fact, I keep saying sci-fi, but Ender's Game is one of the great works of literature of the 20th century period. It's certainly more meaningful, more sophisticated and nuances than stuff like 1984 or Brave New World, which are generally considered to be "proper literature".

Her's a few I like. No I'm not 'well read' but I enjoyed these.

The John Rain Series by Barry Eisler
Choke by Chuck Palahniuk
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Going Clear by Lawrence Wright
Horns by Joe Hill (Stephen King's son)
The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls
14 by Peter Clines
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Gun Machine by Warren Ellis

There are others but these are the first that come to mind

The author is fantasic with his use of language. It's really immersive and he doesn't dumb anything down when it comes too naval jargon.
The movie doesn't do it justice.

Well you also should look at the history on how thorough the scroll writers (or what ever they were called) actually were. Everything had to be extremely precise or they would take the scroll and have to start again. This never changed. The dead sea scrolls are ancient and there is only one book not in the collection. I think it was job. They are exactly the same as today's original language versions.

I agree, I'm on the 6th book where Jack and Stephen are prisoners of war in America 1812. But google/wiki are godsends and the author does try to explain things in laymans terms with the occasional letters home.

Plot: Tarzan ejaculates on a lion, gets assraped, and meets Doc Savage. They both get their balls cut off, eat them, and then fight each other while naked and sporting massive erections, until one rips the other's dick off. The end.

This one.

It flows so well within itself, and despite being quite short feels like a huge slice of what it means to live in America.

Which is pretty ironic, given that both East of Eden and Grapes of Wrath, books Steinbeck is famous for, are quite big yet are narrowly focused without a ton to say.

His best book is one of his shortest and least renowned, while some of his worst are the longest and best renowned.
