If I recall correctly there was a boss fairly early on who I was under leveled for, but I couldn't backtrack after saving at the save point, so I ended up not being able to do anything besides start a new game so I just lost interest.

It's really unfortunate that 4 was as bad as it was, I think the series would have survived much better if they didn't fuck up that and Tierkreis. That series has an obscene amount of lore behind it and I hate that we'll never know how it ends.

It's my second favorite of the series. It has a lot of vocal haters and a much greater number of fans.
It has great gameplay and fantastic music, and I love the pan-asian setting. It replays well; on the first play you sympathize with Tidus and have a hard time understanding everyone else's take on the world. On the second play you just feel sorry for him and understand what all those serious glares he got were for.
The only problems I have with the game is that the post-game grind is comparatively boring, although the arena bosses are pretty fun to make up for that, and the temple puzzles seem out of place.

There are a grand total of 40 minutes of cutscenes in that game, which is about 1% of a normaly game run through. Even if you count every spoken word of dialogue that you could interact with, and every in-battle spoken word, it's 11 hours. Every RPG involves dialogue and reading. Do you not like words?
