I think it takes more self control in doing drugs to not go overboard with it but that's jut me I don't like to get where I can't fucking think straight or walk.
I would rather just get a nice mellow buzz from what ever I'm using. Either way do what ever makes you happy it's not my place to tell people what they can and can't do with their bodies. I think a lot of it stems from a chemical imbalance within the person causing them to not be able to feel pleasure from things they use to enjoy. That's one of the reasons people do drugs as an escape to get that dopamine boost they are missing.
I wonder if there's a correlation between genetically risk-averse people and straightedge people. Some of them might have just seen people close to them fall into addiction and gotten scared off everything, but I do wonder if there's an in-born component that makes people more scared to try drugs etc.

This compassion brought to you by Woodford Double Oaked, but for real, if you're actually feeling like this all the time, seek out some kind of help. Talk to a psychologist or psychiatrist. Also, my family has a genetic liver problem. My dad was hospitalized when he was 16 because his liver failed, and he didn't even drink. My mom's liver also failed, when she was 20, but she's only drank like a few times. My liver hasn't failed before, only had complications, but my younger brother's liver failed when he was like 4.
Also didn't know straight edge meant vegetarian and no sex. I am mostly vegetarian but that's because I'm poor as shit and I live near farms, and meat is expensive. I love meat more than most people probably because I don't get the chance to eat it as often as I'd like. I have sex every week or so.

Maybe the term "straight edge" just has different connotations to us, I grew up and live in an area where almost everyone smokes and drinks, a few hardcore druggies but not many and the people who don't do it accept and don't mind the people who do.
