Time to admit to yourselves that the earth is flat.

I mean really , do you really think that you are standing on a ball that's moving faster than the speed of sound?
The oceans would fly off into space. Fools kek

I've never really understood whether grown men are genuinely into MLP or whether it's just some kind of troll, like Fingerboxes. Actually, I've never really understood Fingerboxes, and whether they're real or trolls too.

It's the same with this fucking Flat Earth thing. I've never met someone who believes in it that I can 100% say is genuine or is just trolling.

I've met a cunt who believes that his family have been abducted by aliens for generations, and he honestly believes it.

>>
In a vacuum, when gases cools down to a liquid, certain bonds for such as h2o, when a liquid is in a vacuum it begins to spin and form a sphere with a vortex In the middle that connects two point on the outside. The inside of this vortex accounts for the surface area of the matter. When you introduce solid matter to the equation it surfaces to the top and clusters that are consistent with cridt and continents. Eventually some of that crust migrates to the vortex like space in the middle also. No claims being made on the shape of the earth, but the above said being facts observed by scaled down experimentation one can theorize that the earth is effectively hollow, and the inside is just more crust and land.

No one will believe me but two nights ago I saw the moon roam across the sky too damn fast. It was unbelievable as it wasn't just moving across the sky, it was moving at an angle and I could swear I saw it rotate counterclockwise slightly. I'm talking something that felt unreal. I thought I was witnessing something out of a movie.

No drugs were involved. I still don't know what to make out of what I saw. Found nothing relevant online which worries me.

I remember my elementary school teacher saying that if you shrunk the earth to the size of a billiard ball it would actually be smoother than an actual billiard ball. Not sure of that's actually true considering there were more than a few incorrect ideas fed to me by grade school teachers. And still that would probably only hold true if the oceans were considered "solid," it might not be true if you just take the land and not the oceans with it.

I think you're confusing the *fact* of gravity - shit doesn't float away it is drawn towards the center of the Earth - with the theory of gravity - why is there gravity and what causes gravity to be a physical law. Thus, you are unfortunately entirely wrong in everything you say.

Motive of the Conspiracy
There is no Flat Earth Conspiracy. NASA is not hiding the shape of the earth from anyone. The purpose of NASA is not to 'hide the shape of the earth' or 'trick people into thinking it's round' or anything of the sort.

There is a Space Travel Conspiracy. The purpose of NASA is to fake the concept of space travel to further America's militaristic dominance of space. That was the purpose of NASA's creation from the very start: To put ICBMs and other weapons into space (or at least appear to). The motto "Scientific exploration of new frontiers for all mankind" was nothing more than a front.

See this remark made in 1958 by Senate Majority Leader and later President Lyndon Johnson:

Control of space means control of the world. From space, the masters of infinity would have the power to control the earth's weather, to cause drought and flood, to change the tides and raise the levels of the sea, to divert the gulf stream and change temperate climates to frigid. There is something more important than the ultimate weapon. And that's the ultimate position. The position of total control over the Earth that lies somewhere in outer space.
—Lyndon B. Johnson, Statement on Status of Nation's Defense and Race for Space, January 7, 1958
One month later, Lyndon Johnson and the Senate Special Committee on Space and Astronautics drafted a resolution to change the name of the US Army's Ballistic Missile Arsenal to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

And why couldn't a flat earth have mountains?
>>
>>712064071
NASA's early rocket research is well documented to have been a complete failure, plagued by one disaster after another. At some point, perhaps after the Apollo 1 disaster, it was decided to fake the space program outright and use rockets which only needed to fly into the air until they disappeared from sight. NASA went from nearly every launch being a failure to a near flawless track record, able to land man on the moon multiple times without error, and with only two public spectacles of failure in 45 years.

The earth is portrayed as round in NASA media because NASA thinks it's round. They are not running a real space program, so they wouldn't know what shape the earth truly takes. At the time of NASA's creation the general population already believed that the earth was round, based on the handed down teachings of the Ancient Greeks, which is why it was depicted in that manner. As with everyone else in the country, the people at NASA were taught the fiction of a globe earth from the cradle, so there was no doubt in their mind as how to display it.

Here's the deal: there are two types of Flat Earthers: trolls, and literal Bible interpreters. Somewhat surprisingly, we usually encounter the latter on 4Chan. There are a few passages in the Bible that transliterate into English with an implication the Earth may be disk-like, or even square. This *human* interpretation is then presented as gospel by their chosen or inherited ministry. There must be no explanation or evidence to the contrary allowed, or the ministry will be shown to have a fundamental flaw.

The first confusion here is that the flat-Earth religious zealots put the onus on *you* to prove the current description of the Earth as oblate spheroidal ("round"). That's not really necessary, because evidence and explanations are available in schools, libraries, museums, from astronomers amateur and professional, on the web, and even dumb old TV. They have no interest in knowledge. They're here to argue to convince you that you're as stupid as they are, and should believe the same crap they do.

They have the freedom to make shit up because truth and understanding are not their goals. They believe their arguments are good enough to sway you, because they themselves don't think. By disavowing any science put forward and continuously prevaricating, they can argue forever by simply accusing you of being wrong, and still be perfectly happy that theirs is God's work. They concentrate on parroting their leaders and may project onto you the moniker "sheeple" as they desperately try to prevent your explanation from marring their fractured perception of the universe. They bear false witness, do not recognize that they behave as agents of the devil with lies and confusion, conceal truth, and are missing out on the beauty and wonder of God's creation.

Simply, there is no arguing. It's like trying to paint over mud. You just end up with a dirty brush.

>Well up until about 400 years ago everyone thought the Earth was flat

actually, they knew fine well it was round.
Erasothenes calculated its size, knowing it was round, by use of shadow angles on the equinox in two places, and managed to get it remarkably accurate - just a few hundred miles out, about 1-2%. That was in 200BC.

Everyone knew the earth was a sphere - and most knew how big. One of the reasons Christopher columbus was turned down so many times, was not that they thought the world was flat, but that they knew it was round, and they knew how far it would be going west to china. It was only the luck of them finding land that saved their lives.

people have known the earth is a sphere for 2,200 years.

The implication of the plane continuing "straight" into space would be that the atmosphere continued on at a constant pressure. In the real world, the atmosphere gets thinner. A plane in flight maintains an equilibrium between the angle of attack of the wing and thrust of the engines that keeps the plane within a level of atmosphere where its rarity is more or less the same, but uses occasional minor trim when local pressure and density varies slightly.

But I get it. You don't care.

>>
>>712065228
Since the very beginning the actual argument has nothing to do with flat or round earth. It has to do with finite or infinite universe. Finite universe theorists believe in the Big Bang Theory, Creationism and all that nonsense. Their belief structures lead to social structures like centralized control and slavery. Infinite theorists see the universe as always progressing, the center being everywhere, the circumference nowhere; therefore, ultimate responsibility is everywhere everywhen, right here and now, with you and me -- the opposite of slavery. Belief patterns and social structures DO matter. The scientists of today, especially cosmologists (with the exception of plasma theorists) are little more than priests of dogma, like the religionists of old. That is why stupidity like flat earth theories are again gaining prominence, in a world where observation, experimentation and documentation are eschewed in favor of established dogma and laurel-resting.

> It has been argued that the official tests he used would still work on a flat Earth.

No, they wouldnt.

the first tests, that of shadow angle, performed by Erasothenes, will work on a flat surface, ONLY if the light source is very close, and ONLY if two points of reference are used.

use a third point of reference, and the near light source on a flat plane instantly fails. The light source can be proven to be distant, because of the Inverse Square Law - a law of physics that can be proven in the lab, or outdoors, that light intensity falls off with the square of the distance. If the sun was 3000 miles above, then when it was midday in Ohio, it would be twighlight in New York and LA, because the intensity of light would fall off.It doesnt. in fact, while light colour changes, due to absorption of longer wavelengths the intensity remains identical both at the same moment, ie, when it is midday over ohio, and at dusk and dawn. This is hard physical proof the sun can not be close, as would be required for the flat earth interpretation to work.

>He was also big into studying the occult and was a know freemason.

Erasothenes was born about 1,700 years before the freemasons were founded. that is impossible.

You mean exactly like they did. what with explorers who went into the heart of africa, encountered the cities of zimbabwe and timboctu, the treasures of the Mali. and the traders who went to china, and Alexander the great who marched his armies across the entire known world, trying to find everything he could, and then technology improved to the point that ocean-going vessels could safely cross the atlantic, and guess what? You make it sound like NASA has a monopoly on defining the world, and that folks like me just believe it without thinking.

Like you don't, when your pastor tells you the Earth is flat.

I think that this may be the farthest a joke has ever been taken seriously, with no sense of irony, by people in the modern times.

You literally said they didn't want Columbus to travel west to China bc it would take too long. So they had no interest in seeing what was west between them and China? Good one /b/ro

Acceleration caused by gravity: 9.8m/s^2(centripetal force)
Acceleration caused by earths rotation: 0.03m/s^2(centrifugal force)

acceleration=velocity^2/r

451m/s(1,000mph)^2/6,371,000(earths radius in meters)=0.03m/s^2

Theoretically, 9.8>0.03

When the earth comes between the moon and the sun, we see a shadow in the form of a circle on the moon. That is only possible if the earth is a sphere.

The North Star appears lower on the horizon in the north than it does in the south and it appears directly up over the equator. That's only possible on a spherical planet.

Ships crossing over the horizon appear and disappear. That is only possible on a spherical planet.

Copy and paste this to prevent future stupidity from trolls.

According to the World Pool-Billiard Association, a pool ball is 2.25 inches in diameter, and has a tolerance of +/- 0.005 inches. In other words, it must have no pits or bumps more than 0.005 inches in height. That’s pretty smooth. The ratio of the size of an allowable bump to the size of the ball is 0.005/2.25 = about 0.002.

The Earth has a diameter of about 12,735 kilometers (on average, see below for more on this). Using the smoothness ratio from above, the Earth would be an acceptable pool ball if it had no bumps (mountains) or pits (trenches) more than 12,735 km x 0.00222 = about 28 km in size.

The highest point on Earth is the top of Mt. Everest, at 8.85 km. The deepest point on Earth is the Marianas Trench, at about 11 km deep.

So, the Earth is smoother than a regulation pool ball.

It's all good bro, it's all good. I'll take one for the team lol. Apple products are pretty good though. I'm sure you can find technology that does the same shit for a little cheaper, but I don't care, I like my apples.

>I remember my elementary school teacher saying that if you shrunk the earth to the size of a billiard ball it would actually be smoother than an actual billiard ball. Not sure of that's actually true considering there were more than a few incorrect ideas fed to me by grade school teachers. And still that would probably only hold true if the oceans were considered "solid," it might not be true if you just take the land and not the oceans with it.

its right.
if you shrunk the earth to a 1m ball, mt everest would be just 0.2mm higher than sea level - the thickness of a sheet of paper. the Marianas Trench would be just 1/4mm deep - a scratch.

The difference in diameter pole to pole, vs over the equator would likewise be less than 1mm.

A billiard ball scaled up to earth size would be covered in massive canyons way deeper than the Grand Canyon, and mountain peaks twice that of Mt Everest.

>>712068415
Nice. I just learned that not too long ago. Neil DeGrasse Tyson explained it. He said a giant from outer space would not be able to feel the ocean trenches or mountains like you can on a fancy globe because 5 miles is nothing compared to the entire planet. We're basically a perfect sphere with a thin layer of some water on the outside.

Polar orbits like this are actually very common for earth-observing satellites, as the satellite orbits "vertically" so to speak, while the earth spins around underneath it "horizontally", creating a series of scan lines that eventually cover the whole planet, allowing a complete image to be created of the globe. Some earth-observing satellites create an image with radar, some would use visible or IR light.

Check out the French SPOT, Canadian Radarsat-1, or American DMSP satellites on wikipedia.

I actually stole all 3 of those answers from Stephen Hawking himself from his book a brief history of time.

There is a level of intelligence that exists that is not matched by your average human and I miss that interaction. I need to go to college again :( I'm surrounded by people that believe humans and dinosaurs lived side by side 6,000 years ago on a flat planet....
