The reason I bring up media is because the founding fathers believed that those not living in city centers would not be o hear the message of the candidates. They would be unable to keep up with current news. Which was true at the time. So an informed electoral college would be able to make an educated decision if need be.

What we need is a way to assess and draw vote lines according to region and population with weighted representation. Once that's done states have to be prevented from gerrymandering the lines to turn off democracy for the majority of their citizens.

The electoral college is sort of a good idea. The problem with democracy is that policy is set by whatever is most popular. However, what is popular isn't always the best choice. At times the country has had to bite the bullet and make hard choices and the people that make those choices get vilified. Yet the problem is that leading up to said choice there were people saying we need to make small adjustments now, take a minor hit, to prevent disaster but that is not popular. So in order to get elected you have to appeal to what everyone wants and that makes it harder for policy makers to make the right but hard choice. The only problem with less democracy is that it tends to work for a time because the original leadership could handle the concentrated power responsibly then over time it becomes handled irresponsibly.
