She said I was the only person she ever trusted enough to explain what had happened to her in her earlier life. She hadn't even told her parents. She said I was the only reason she was still alive.
We went on a break because we were both so busy with university work and I had to move away from a while. She went out with a friend, got blind drunk and the friend kissed her. She told him to fuck off, but at the time she told him she wasn't seeing anyone, and I found all this out through a friend.
Its an innocent enough mistake and I can understand why she didn't tell me, but at the time when I found, I was inconsolable. I ripped her apart over an email of all things and totally cut her out of my life. I told her I never wanted to see her again and that she was dead to me.
She dropped out of uni. I didn't hear from her until my final year, when she said she had relapsed into self-harm and swallowed a bunch of painkillers and downed a bottle of wine. She said that a day hadn't gone by where she didn't think about me. She begged me to come back into her life because she was afraid she was going to end up killing herself.
I never responded to her.
I don't know where she is now. I've not told my current girlfriend any of this.
I've never felt any real remorse for what I did to her. Today is the first time i've thought about her in ages.
