Some people, really few actually, have real and reasonable reasons to die. Like the people who live with terrible diseases or in a lot of pain.
But most suicides are product of mental health problems, so the letting someone kill himself under such circumstances is like letting him die of some disease without doing anything about it.

I've had the barrel of my gun in my mouth before and I was that close to pulling the trigger. While I don't agree with the concept of suicide, especially if you have obligations in this world(family, close friends, significant other), but I know how it feels to want off this ride and I know a lot of people feel that on a daily basis. Ok, so if you got into a decent one probability is that you are on the top percentage of smartest highschoolers, specially considering you are from the middle of nowhere.
You might have been the bottom 10% of where you studied, but if you were to be compared, intelligence wise, with the top 10% of a worse college than the one you got in chances are that you would outperform them easily.
Human brains are not objective, we can't usually see the big picture, we can only compare ourselves to our closest peers.
You are probably not dumb, maybe badly prepared by your school and learning environment, but not as dumb as you think you are.
