When you look at the popular vote maps, Hillary's votes were contained to about a half-dozen major metropolitan areas. The rest of the vast expanse of our country voted for Trump.
Which is exactly why the Electoral College was created. Do to the size of the Republic, there had to be a method in place to stop the few large cities from dictating policy to the remainder of the country.
