The thing i hate most about Fluffies isn't the violence or the gore. The thing i hate most about Fluffies is how fucking inconsistent they are. You'll have one story where they are as big as a small dog, have the memory of a gold fish, and are about as weak as a wet paper bag being nuked. And then you'll have a story where they are about as big as your foot, are retarded sociopaths, and can take a couple punches.
Hell, the fact that most stories make them have a awful memory and how they'll never learn anything are infuriating. What's the point of abusing something if it won't be affected by pain for long and will continue to be as obnoxious as always?

A little backstory for those who were expecting me to curb stomp the little fucker.
My real dad died in a car accident when I was five. He was coming home from work late one night when some drunk asshole ran a stop light and smoked the driver's door of his car at 70 km/h. Somehow the drunk fuck lived while my dad suffered a broken neck which killed him instantly.
I remember when mom decided to remarry. She'd dated several assholes until eventually settling on this one guy who seemed nice but actually wasn't. To him, I was the unwanted extra baggage that came with mom. He mostly ignored me and I went off to do my own thing. Sometimes we'd clash and sometimes he'd think it was his responsibility to beat the fuck out of me. Of course, he did it when mom wasn't around and would then lie about where I got my bruises. "Oh, dumb kid must've fell off his bike!" The worst part was that mom believed him over me.

Everything came to a head one night when I was 16. I came home late from a party one night. Mom was working a late shift so only Captain Fucknuts was home. He'd been drinking and we got into it. Words turned into fists; however, at 16, I was able to fight him a little more fairly. Not gonna lie, we fucking trashed the house and not quietly either. The neighbor heard us and called the cops.
You might think this would've worked out well except it didn't. My stepdad was given a restraining order but it came out in court that mom had been selling herself on the side for extra money. She was declared unfit and I was shuffled off to a foster home.
My new family was like the Flanders' on The Simpsons except with Maude still alive. I actually didn't mind the heavy religiousness at first. I thought it gave structure to the family so I went with it. Just before my 18th birthday though, I found out that I'd be required to confirm with their church. It wasn't the usual born again baptism either but some weird ritual they performed at a retreat in the woods. Seriously believing I'd be joining another one of those suicide cults you see on TV, I packed some things and noped the fuck out one night. Strangely enough, nobody was ever sent to look for me and I was never put on any missing persons list.

Suede soon became a part of our lives. I had him registered with the city and bought a nice red leather collar for his ID tag. He didn't like wearing the collar at first until we managed to convince him that it and ~only~ it was the difference between our warm apartment with lots of food and tummy rubs and being back on the cold street; hungry and alone. After that, he treated his collar as if it were his life.
Suede grew into a fine pet. He took to his litter box fairly quickly and seemed content with having two loving owners instead of lots of toys. He'd often sit on my lap while I watched sports on TV and he also enjoyed cuddling up with Linnea while she read him stories.
This is the point of the story where everything either goes perfectly or it all falls apart.

I remember the world going dark and then waking up with Suede sitting next to me poking my face with his hoof.
A lot of things were about to change.
With my new promotion and some money from Linnea's parents, were were able to buy a nice three bedroom house with a small yard. At our apartment, the second bedroom had been reserved for Linnea's library and reading room while our bedroom also doubled as Suede's safe room. In the new house, we thought about keeping Suede in one of those living room pens but he insisted on living in our bedroom. Probably just force of habit for him.
When our daughter was born, Suede became fiercely protective of her to the point where he now insisted on sleeping in the nursery instead just so he could be near in case shit went down. We had to admire his dedication even though he usually fell asleep on duty.

Children grow up and that first pet grows older. Linnea and I knew that the lifespan of even the most well cared for fluffer is never more than five years. "We love you too, buddy." I choked through my tears. Suede rested his head on my wrist. I stroked his back to calm him. Soon enough, he was gone.
