>more people voted for Hillary than Trump.
>Trump win.
I don't get it.
The Electoral College votes on the presidential candidate. The public votes are simply to give them an indication of which president is the most popular. Even now, the College still has to approve Trump as president; he may lose yet.

>>711333988
To explain this further:
They go off state points because it allows them to get a better understanding of the people all over America rather than just take into account an area that has more of the population if that makes sense.
People in different states and counties experience different things, if it went off amount of votes, why bother to help all of them? Only help the places with the majority of the population
I think Trump will be one of the worst things to ever happen to the white house, but the silly thing is that I still find solace in knowing Hillary didn't get what she wanted in spite of her smugness.
>>711332422
Here you go OP
>>711333988
If you weren't stupid, you would understand population density. The electoral college system gives higher weight to votes from less populated areas. This means that a person in rural Iowa has more voting power than a person in LA. How much more? They have about 180 times more effect per voter. Seems totally fair to me, especially when you consider gerrymandering having an outsided benefit for republicans as well, allowing them to easily gain many large counties.

>>711332422
>more people voted for Hillary than Trump.
You are extremely naïve if you think that more people voted for Hillary than for Trump.
In general, Americans vote two ways. They vote in person on the day of the election or they vote absentee. Absentee means they vote by mail.
People who vote absentee are largely Republican. Those who voted absentee in the last election generally voted for Trump.
Not all ballots are counted. Absentee ballots are counted only if they will make a difference in the election outcome. In states where absentee ballots were not counted, votes for Trump were understated.
So while you say that Hillary got more votes than Trump, what you don't realize is that Hillary got more of the VOTES THAT WERE COUNTED and not more of the VOTES THAT WERE CAST.
>>711334717
You're fucking stupid.
>>711334846
You have no idea what you're talking about. You are clueless. You have your head up your ass.
Trump won the legal popular vote if you take away all the illegals who voted for Hillary. Although illegal to vote if not a citizen lets realize that they're already breaking the law and have means to vote since many illegals have Photo ID and some even have social security numbers. Not all of the votes were counted on November 9, the date shown on your image. In your image, you show Hillary with more votes than Trump. But not all the votes were counted.
Try to understand (I know it will be hard for you), votes counted does not necessarily equal the number of votes cast.
As of yesterday, several states – Arizona was one – had not finished counting their votes.
If all of the states had not finished counting their votes by November 10, how can your totals from November 9 possibly be accurate?

Bush beat Gore. Not all of the votes were counted. Only enough absentee votes were counted to determine the outcome of the election. Absentee votes that would have no effect on the outcome of the election were not counted.
>>711336040
Because America isn't a democracy, it's a republic, and states matter more than individuals so as to not have one state with x interest have priorty over another simply because of population.

Now you are catching on. The absentee ballots were never counted.
In 2000, when Al Gore “won” the popular vote nationally by 500,000 votes and the liberal media screamed bloody murder, there were 2 million absentee ballots in CA alone. A 67-33 breakout of those yields a 1.33-.667 mil Republican vote advantage, so Bush would have gotten a 667,000-vote margin from CA’s uncounted absentee ballots alone! Large cities are wholly dependent on the surrounding regions. People who live in high population areas, secluded from the rest of the country, are in no position to make decisions for the rest of the country.
You don't just want a majority opinion. You also want a diverse opinion. You want people from as many different walks of life as possible voting for policy. That's the only way you're going to get a balanced policy that's good for everyone, not just the majority voters.
That's why we have an electoral college. Is it perfect? No. The winner takes all model as it applies to states is kind of shitty. But did the right person win this election, based on the voter breakdown? Absolutely.
>>711337305
I didn't go out and vote because Trump already had my state in the bag. If more people like me voted, he could have had and probably would have the popular vote. Additionally, Clinton's lead over Trump in the popular vote is negligible. It really IS too close to call. There are millions of people that did not vote in their respective states because they knew their states wouldn't have close counts. And that's a lot more people than she led him by in the popular.
Fun fact: If not for the electoral college, NEITHER of the major candidates would have the majority, and trump would become president anyway after the congress votes for president.

>>711332422
Hey OP, I think I can help.
So the basics are that when they say the "popular vote", what they are actually referring to is something called the NPV, or National Popular Vote, which means exactly how it sounds.
However this is not the system we use, and looking a little deeper, it is a good thing we don't.
We can look at this by running a hypothetical scenario. Let's take a few cities and pick them out: L.A., New York City, Chicago are the biggest, but let's also add Austin, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Portland, and Seattle.
The total population of these states as of the best I can find is around 34,000,000, and that is probably much greater since this is mostly Urban and MSA population numbers, and not CSA, but it is a good rough number to use. Now let's say that there was an 70% Democratic turn out based off that population. That would be (using this example) 27.2 million votes cast for the Democratic candidate. To put that in perspective, that would mean that 100% of the population of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, and West Virginia would have to turn out just to compensate for the victories in those 10 cities, and that's not including the Greater Metropolitan area's of New York, L.A. D.C and Baltimore, Philly.
I could go on, but essentially this is the function of the electoral college. It's so all States do have a voice. The popular vote still matters, but it matters at a State level as far as voting for electors to pledge their votes for their candidate. If you were too look at Texas, New York, Florida, and California, the four states with the most electoral votes (151 total), if a candidate won all four, they would still be 120 short of winning the election, so it forces candidates to campaign for and focus on all the states (to some degree), instead of just targeting high pop. area's alone to get elected.

TLDR:
Population in urban centers tend to result in an echochamber and a homogenization of opinion.
Ask a person in NYC how to reduce the overhead and regulation for an Iowan farmer and you're likely to get a dumbfounded look on their face.
The point (at least now) is to preserve diversity of opinion and to ensure that everyone is represented in the government, not just the population dense areas, which would have no clue and/or wouldn't care about improving life for those in rural areas.

No, simply untrue. Im a fucking democrat and know that he didnt get elected because of solelg racist whites. He won the vote of a very diverse group of voters. White women and men, obviously, but black men, and hispanics voted for him too. Black women were the only group who resoundingly voted for clinton. People either voted for trump who they weren't expecting to or they simply didnt vote, which was essentially a vote for the donald.
People were tired of being told they were pieces of shit for not believing the liberal agenda. And the liberal agenda was wrong for trying to autonomize the nation. You get falsely called a homophobe or racist by a certain group long enough, guess what, those people being called that will find a way to fuck you over. The dems need to stop throwing this nationwide temper tantrum over a fair trump win and stop and ask, ok, what can we do to work with you. Because trump is yours and my president elect. Like it or not. And either you figure out a way to work with him and lessen the inevitable damage, or you piss him off and he goes for the very ideals you so prpudly support and cripples you.
We all know he isnt bringing back jobs because there are no jobs to bring back. Its no longer outsourcing, its the problem that factory jobs were made to be ran by robotics. Robots dont need a salary, they dont need healthcare. They need a small team of programmers and repair men. Thats it.
He's not getting big Washington out of washington. He is actually giving them a promotion into his cabinent.
He's not going to work for the people, and his voters are going to realize that soon enough. Im just gonna sit back and say I told you so.

>the majority are NOT racists and bigots
less than 60M people voted for Trump, you really think more than 30M were not racist or biggoted in any way?
That sounds naive as fuck to me.
>>711340819
His Low reading comprehension falls into the category of being illiterate.
>>711340451
A pure democracy would clearly fall apart due to the farmers and outsiders feeling like they don't matter.
People seem to think the system sucks and as far as voting fraud goes, it does. However, our Founding Father's were not idiots and this system we have is constantly evolving. Losers want to take us back centuries and destroy everything that has worked fairly for the last 43 presidents.
>>711340378
>however the total number of electorates is capped
No it isn't, the number of electorates can be changed/increased at any time
it was last increased in 1991
>>711340688
The Republicans want Pence, that's the point. And, the democrats will support them.
>>711340621
no one lives in the red spots. but apparently their vote counts MORE than the blue spots.
>>711340613
The Bil Maher show clip perfectly reflects the typical "we're so educated and smart, and you are dumb" attitude flaunted by the left.

Go on, find that reliable source that states the VAST majority of voters are registered Democrat.

>I love my country deeply

Yeah, once again, you're an idiot.
>>711340655
Not as 2015 according to PEW research. There are more registered republicans this time around, solely due to Donald Trump.

Despite all you you crying, President elect Donald Trump is our leader now. A couple weeks and you'll will be fine, you always will.
God bless the United States of America, the strongest nation in the world.
>>711340727
Listen baby he was elected by the American people. He was elected by the American process that has existed since day one. He is your president, legitimately elected. Having a wet diaper doesn't change anything. You see me in the street with Obamy was elected? See me saying 'he aint be my president!'. No, because I am an American first, not some little whiny bitch tit who thinks his opinion is more important than anyone elses.
>>711337529
Why in the fuck can you not call it unfair? the results of the election are fair, but the electoral college is anything but fair. It was initially designed because the framers were worried the people wouldn't become informed and were too stupid to vote (to be fair to them at the time you probably didn't know anyone outside of your town or at best your state, so choosing leaders would be tricky) but it also served to protect the Jeffersonian concept of the yeoman farmer, and to benefit the slave holding south
The number of electors a state has is based on number of congressmen, which is based on population. However, slaves counted for 3/5, so this entire class of people who couldn't vote still counted for the purposes of allotting electoral power; a priori the slaveholders got to cast 3/5th of a vote on behalf of their slaves. What this meant is that the slave holding south got to wield more electoral power than they should have by proportional representation
There was an argument made that the rights of smaller states had to be preserved, that this protected from tyranny of the majority, but why should more populous areas be disenfranchised when the interests of smaller states is already so completely respected in the senate?
what it results in is a vote in Montana being worth 4 California votes, why is that fair, why is that just?
>>711341186

It SHOWS why you're stupid.
You just refuse to see it because you are blinded by your ego.

>>711340918
i really dont think im being naive.
i live in a red county in a blue state. i know a lot of trump supporters, and i wouldnt call a single one of them racist.
stop calling them dumb and bigoted, and try to actually listen to what their concerns are. dismissing half the country does no damn good.
>>711340984
There are about 6 million more registered Dems than Reps, and that's the lowest the difference has ever been.

>>711333988
Empty land shouldnt have more political sway then living people . period
This is the most common argument for the electoral college but really a weak one.
Three percent of the population account for eight percent of the electorate
People in america will never have real power or freedom untill they can not only vote and be counted but have those votes dictate who the president will be
Also the presidency is chosen by 2 or 3 battle ground states every year anyway
Shit try and be a president without winning ohio . That shit just dont happen.
>>711341434
the DNC rigged it against Bernie. agreed on that.
>>711341355
>in a blue state
most of Trump's supporters were not in blue states, you are judging a continent-wide population on a misrepresentative sample just because it's a personal anecdote of yours.
Regardless or your opinion, the way you came to it is pretty naive.
>>711340804
We are on the same side. Just stop being retarded.
>>711340747
Well congratulations. You and you alone seem to be awake, you alone in all this messy blithering idiots railing against Trump in this thread. Thing about democracy is, even people who disagree with you on damn near everything still get to vote and guess what, they voted, and it's time for you to deal with it. The exact arrogant white-hating attitude most of you are displaying now in opposition to Trump is WHAT GOT him elected.
>>711336290

because if a Montana vote was not worth 4 California votes, we wouldn't be the United States of America. We would be the United Coalition of New York and California.
>>711341268
You refute absolutely nothing. Make whatever retarded assertions about my positions you like because they aren't coming into play here. Only this one is: Why on earth should people who aren't citizens be permitted to vote in the US election?
Do US citizens vote for Venezuela policy?
>>711340957
Only the establishment republicans don't like Trump, and they are growing few in number.
Stop talking about shit you don't understand.
>>711341560
Bullshit. Bernie came nowhere near even getting 30% of the vote.
>>711341223
>Why in the fuck can you not call it unfair?
you can call the system unfair. that is fine and a legit concern.
but the actual results of the election, based on that system, was fair and square. there was no cheating or rigging or any unfair advantage.
>>711341214

All you are saying is that disproportionately benefits some arbitrary group is fine as long as you're in that group. You can say that, but acknowledge that you're not some Ayn Rand hero valiantly fighting the nanny state, most of the entitlement narrative is complete bullshit.

you're a fucking CHUMP
Republicans publicly BRAGGED about suppressing more votes than Trump won by in key states. The system is rigged, the results are not fair.
>>711341530
I disagree. People in cities may be swayed to vote for a specific candidate because of the popular views/values/norms associated with that person.
>>711341659
Hillary was probably the shittiest candidate i've ever seen. and i saw Trump. Bernie would have done much better.
