My school just did a walkout because of trump being our next president, what is the point of walkouts? I thought this was a democracy
>>

They are training you to behave like a spoiled millennial in your adult life.

Asked to work late, walk out
Don't get promotion, walk out
Don't get your way, walk out

Have fun throwing temper tantrums as an adult
>>
they walk out demonstrating weakness not strength. They could accept their new president or they could accept life goes on including education and work.
They walked out to be lazy and ask for free passing grades
>>
>>711230621
No, the opposite is it being forbidden to speak out against the authority, otherwise known as totalitarianism.
>>
Because we allow free speech and freedom of expression.

Fine, we elected Trump, democracy works. But we also get to say, "we think that's really fucking dumb."

Respect both aspects of our country.

Don't like what I'm saying? Go back to Faux News.
Capitalism has to be the greatest failure of organised government ever- but it came with the greatest lie ever told as well. Everything is fine. Keep consuming. Keep producing. You are what you own, and if you don't own anything, you are worthless.
The capitalist Ponzi scheme is falling, /b/rothers, just a little later than Marx predicted. It is coming.

From the Wikipedia page on "Democracy":

>Democracy was originally conceived in Classical Greece, where political representatives were chosen by a jury from amongst the male citizens: rich and poor.

Wikipedia calls THAT a democracy. What i think you're suggesting is called a direct democracy, or maybe an absolute democracy. Like grey can be different shades, democracy can too, as long as citizens elect officials or decide on issues regularly.

Republics just don't have hereditary titles (on paper).

>Majority rule is often listed as a characteristic of democracy
Never is it said that democracy means 1 vote = 1 president point. In the US, you vote for your state, not for your president. It is the state's vote that gives president points.
There are people who actually thought this through for decades to create the least unfair system, but I'm sure you can show them.

American politics is not a democracy.
Most of the rest of the world is laughing at the fucked up system that has been put in place.

Just take this election as a perfect example.
Hillary got MORE votes but lost anyways.
Trump won more electors and that's why he won.

This confuses the rest of the world that calls themselves democratic. How can you lose even if you get the most votes?

We live in a Republic. Young people don't really understand what this means--but people are unhappy to realize, to fully realize, that we aren't living in a democracy.

>And to the Republic

Not to the Democracy.

Hillary won the popular vote. In a democracy, she wins. In a republic, she sometimes wins, sometimes loses--but, in this instance, she loses.

For older millennials, this has now happened twice to a liberal candidate. 2000 and 2016.

Young people are upset. Liberals have had our Republic tinkered with by traditionalists and Conservatives. Voting no longer matters unless it is a landslide. If it isn't, Conservatives will win every close election because of our Republic.

If you aren't upset about this, then you're dense. If you support it because your candidate won, then you're a low character person.

Good for young people for making their voices heard. Older people certainly want to run things without any push back. As evidenced by this election, they do.

>The electors elect
Whoa lad

Little did you know the US have states, which your little country does not. Each state is similar to a country, with different laws, customs and culture. You scream about democracy and equality, when what you propose is that small states should not have the right to vote, as bigger states would have enough voters to decide the president themselves.

So people vote for their state's choice, and the president is decided on the majority of states.

Since it would also be bullshit that a small state could influence as much as a big state, each state is worth a certain amount of points.
This way, it's a middle ground between "voters elect" and "states elect".

tdlr: states are a retarded notion and should either be abolished or gain independance

And I'm not even american.

It's not counted. Each state votes are counted. "Popular vote" is just the total, a fun little trivia on the side. You're right, it shouldn't even be mentioned. Unless there is actually a use for it in specific cases that I don't know of.

its very simple
united states is a collectiong states, they have an amount of electorial college votes relative to their population.
the stats ec votes for that state and the whoever the majority of the states vote for is who they vote for
hillary won the popular vote because she won population centers like new york and Los angeles but lost the ec vote because trump won the majority of the states, calfiornia and newyork both have some of the largest ec sway in the land but they cannot counterbalance the rest of the states votes

so the popular vote is needed to tell ec in each individual state who the poplic of that state wants them to vote for,
people bitching about hilalry winning the populay vote ( ironic considering they were just last week telling republicans that they better not cry when she wins the electorial college even if trump wins popular) dont understand the popular vote only matters in a state by state basis

there is something called a faithless elector but is not even really an issue

It doesn't work because most people go through the whole year without ever having to go get medical treatment. Those same people are penalized for being healthy and not going to a hospital. Being free isn't paying for everyone else's well being. It's taking care of yourself. Socialized medicine has its good aspects, but it's also full of bullshit that doesn't work because it got rammed down our throats, like it or not. There should be positives to not using your medical insurance in a year. Give people incentives to be healthier. That would work much better than forcing people to pay for others. I understand that the majority of the funding comes from those that pay that penalty every year, so funding would have to come from elsewhere...haven't gotten that far yet, but the system definitely needs fixing.

>>
>>711234470

The amount of stupid.

Why are you explaining anything if you don't understand?

The reason that, periodically, the popular vote has not reflected who was elected is because states choose how electoral college representatives are assigned. Many states are proportional--if you win 49.9%, then you get 49.9% of the electors. Other states are winner take all. These winner take all states are the reason the popular vote, sometimes, does not reflect who is elected.

>>711234643

You don't know what you're talking about.

Implementation was left up to the states. The federal government built a back-end that certain states took advantage of. These states, like California, have had incredibly successful ACA rollouts. Other states didn't--they built their own system, and shut the door to most insurers. Insurers, while they have to put aside some profits, couldn't even operate in many states with Republican governors.

Because of this, ACA becomes more expensive for everyone. The risk pool becomes so bad that insurers pull out altogether. You need an equal number of low risk people in a state to be insured, so that it offsets the cost of the high risk. Republican governor states, in general, made this impossible to pull off. And why?

Politics.

If it was as easy as California, the system would work. The federal government would subsidize the low cost, low income uninsured while the low cost, high income uninsured paid in. There was no reason to block this, except to torpedo the ACA.

And, by doing this, they convinced people like you the system is bad.

Naw. You just stupid.

>>
>>711234908

People don't seem to understand our current health care problem and are upcoming healthcare problem.

There have been many signs that our healthcare system is in a bubble. it's rate of cost (not insurance premium, but what is actually being billed out) has been rising at rates far faster than normal economic income/ inflation for almost 2 decades now.

Obomacare's real purpose was to try to push insurance premiums down by adding a big influx of new healthier blood (millennials) People who wont use insurance as much as the older generation (baby boomers approaching/ in retirement).

It also tried to put in things to slow the rate of health care inflation costs... it actually did so ... a little.

But pharmaceutical companies have seen their opportunity to raise their prices since obama care tells insurances they HAVE to cover drugs somewhat atleast for the people that need it. One of the reasons we see so many drugs increasing in cost... cause they can.

If obama care is revoked. I forsee many people pulling out of insurance all together. Rates continuing to go up at higher rates since you wont have younger people paying premiums that they don't need to pay since they are healthy enough. And republicans are saying they want to keep in the clauses involving letting anyone with predispositions being covered. This will make costs of premiums to rise even faster.

Eventually a very large % of people are going to not be able to afford insurance. There will be more people having to try to pay out of pocket (and fail because of the rising health care costs especially without an insurance company to "negotiate" the price down)

Eventually the entire healthcare system will have to pop like the housing market.

Obama care wasnt bad, it only tried to slow the bubble's growth by treating the system.

But neither republicans or democrats will go full social medicine to fix the actual problem, the health care industries cost inflation problem (bubble)

We Fucked

Maybe you're paying attention to the wrong sorts. It's like with abstract art.. you get all these bullshit artists selling their pieces at thousands of dollars and you think "man, modern art sucks". But then yo go on the internet and realize that more art is being produced today than at any point in the past.

Thats retarded.
"O bummer care got revoked. Honey, stop those radiation treatments and get the kids off the ADHD medication! We're gettin rid of our health insurance! YEEEHAWWWW"

you didn't really say that did you? Did you really say ADULTS would go without healthcare because poor people have to pull their own fucking weight and maybe get a god damn job that has insurance? Fucking warehouses offer health insurance for full time. Get a clue nigger.
>>

>>
>>711236404
Oh the irony.

Your guy said "I will accept the results if I win"
and supporters of his already began making plans of armed marches and rallies in support of him.

Is that any different than what the Opposition is doing? Not really, in fact it may be worse

When the candidate elect, is elected, and yours is not. You lost. This has nothing to do with a better world, just hurt feelings, just like from the start with Trump's haters.

You are assuming he's going to take away all of your faggy rights, which is hilarious. Proving the incompetence you have over the power of the President and and Trump's actual plans of action. Keep fear mongering though. It's fun to watch. Eventually all the Democrats will have felony records and wont be able to vote :)

with the tax break plan? Jesus man, do you not realize the less people to tax the less revenue the government gets?
I know people are wanting the atomic family again, I would also be more than happy seeing Eisenhower as president. The last great republican president.
>>
>>711231588
The simple fact is that when the electoral college favors the unpopular candidate that democrats want, it's totally fine. But when the sides are flipped, it's corruption. See: the 2012 election.

just stay in the class, even if your teachers walked out.

grown people acting like spoiled children because they didn't get what they want shouldn't be humored or accommodated in any capacity.

Liberal logic.

Its soft protest....for soft people. People should be lining up at their democratic offices asking what can I do to help. Do work, fix things, get the word out about politicians and change. Whining and baseless protest is weak.
>>
>>711236706
Maybe not you, but Trump called for the same shit in 2012. >>711236584

And again started to set the stage for it this time. The majority of his people eat up all he says. So, yea
>>
>>711230613
A minority of the eligible voters were able to get their candidate in. That's different than the majority electing him. The other 160 000 000 eligible voters either sat out or voted for Hillary. He's in because of a system rigged to favor small cities and rural centers. It's not the end of the world but it's not true democracy.
>>
>>711236273

Just do like most Scandinavian countries and have a universal public healthcare system that is funded largely through taxation. There is a reason why we have better healthy people over here then i your shitty ass country.
>>
>>711236536
Fair enough. I use liberal as an insult because most ideas that come from liberals are ideas made in ignorance. Most liberals have blinders that they use to ignore anything that stands up to reason or logic. They think everyone owes them something and that the world is a terrible mean place that is out to get them. Liberals also tend to be SJW's(nobody likes those) and the BLM types. Liberals are the type that come on /b/ to start furry and waifu threads. Liberals are a cancer. Liberalism in the sense that you are referring to is a good thing, but it's getting out of hand. Like you said, it seems broken now.

Trump won, Hillary lost, not what I would have wanted but it's whatever. I'm going to be honest with all you all, this is how I see things are going to play out.

Let's say Trump does "drain the swamp" I see him just putting in and surrounding himself with people from that same swamp, people like Rudy guliani and New gingricht who are known faggots.

It looks like he's expected to put in 3-4 supreme court judges during his term(s) we can expect a regressive court for the next 3 decades. This is probably the only reason why I wanted Hillary, for the judges and for her to lose something so important for the democrats makes me chuckle a bit.

Because he has no experience in political matters whatsoever he's just going to be pushed around by Republicans who see him as a tool to write in legislation without any independent though to himself.

Its looking like republicans have a great chance to get a super majority in 2018 and at that point any regulation that protected anybody from some retarded shit is rip.

Trump better pray that the liberal judges in the court die during his first 3 years because the faggot Republicans set the stupidest precedent by cucking obama in a supreme court seat during his last year.

These are great times if you are a Republican but hopefully they don't get too lax, Obama had super majority during 2008 and a measly 8 years later the democrats got destroyed, the same exact thing could happen to republicans 8-10 years later.

While I'm a bit sad that Republican policies like Trickle-meme economics are coming at full force and regulations that actually helped people are going to be removed, common core being removed so hick-towns and backward religious areas being taught abstinence only education will flourish, maybe.. just maybe it would all be worth it if Trump gives the middle finger to Republicans and Democrats alike, having him have independent though so he avoids conservative echo chambers, term limits, it might actually be worth it.

BLMs are annoying but the point that there is a difference in the way LEOs approach whites and black isn't in dispute. This week cops were attacked and killed by angry white guys but there was barely a ripple in the news. Worse than that most of the white guys were taken alive. So while BLM might be annoying the issue of how justice is applied isn't garbage
