There was a video I saw a few days back where a guy took up the challenge to actually build a tiny home inside the unused space of the rooms that were filled with these pipes.
He took advantage of a heating pipe, added the right amount of insulation on it so it would keep the space reasonably hot.
Had a few bed spaces, nice little kitchen.
