Let me give you some tips then :)
The types of hops, grains, and yeast used in a beer give it a unique flavor, aroma, and color.
Colors can range anywhere from a very light yellow to a very dark almost blackish brown.
These lighter ones are your IPA's, ales, pilsners, and lagers.
Your darker ones are dark ales, porters, and stouts.
Your lighter beers are usually more bitter than your darker ones, but this is not principle, this can be the opposite in some cases. But your dark beers are usually much, much stronger. And by stronger I mean ABV, your alcohol by volume. And usually, the stronger the beer, the more expensive it can get. But then again, this is not principle, and sometimes a lighter beer can be stronger.
Here's a pic that should give you an idea of what to ask for and research. Starting out, beers might taste all the same. But after a while, you'll begin to recognize the taste, and then you can begin to tell the major differences with things like smell, foam, (or heads), and color.
Really enjoying different beers is just like it was when you were younger trying new energy drinks or sodas, or new flavors of Gatorade and Powerade.

Brands you can start off with? Try Dogfish Head, Flying Dog, Rogue, Evil Twin, Bell's, Founders, even Samuel Adams. Breweries that offer a variety of beers typically have good starter beers that you can try, like precursors to things like Barleywine Style or Doublebocks at a reasonable price. Then if you like what you had, you can try the same style brew but a different brand.

Ask your clerk to recommend something to you. Don't let them fuck you with a 3-5 dollar bottle of low alcohol content, off-brand swill. I would recommend a cream stout and a sour for your first crafts, they're typically reasonably priced, and a very pleasant beer taste without the heavy beer taste with an emphasis on the cream and/or the fruit.
Or try a 'Lagunitas' and any reasonably priced 'Stout' or 'Porter' - any kind. Something light, and something dark. Then narrow your options next time if you like what you had.
