Sup fags.
What's a good linux distro for a beginner?
R34 for your attention.

Linux from scratch.
Alright, but being serious, Mint, OpenSUSE, ElementaryOS.
>>710612513
>>710612525
A friend suggested xubuntu - do you know it?
>>710612530
>>710612571
>>710612571
Yes, and genuinely, I don't like it, but if you're willing to give it a try, go ahead. Ubuntu MATE as well is alright.
>>710612584
>>710612612
What's the notable difference about these then? Why does ubuntu suck compared to your other suggestions?
>>710612711
>>710612607
>>710612797
I've just found Ubuntu to seem slower, plus it's unity based. I did start out with it, but found I liked other distros more.
idk man more r34

ubuntu probably.

lfs was awesome.
>>710613276
Would have to agree, but it'd probably take them a while to figure out if they really tried.
Ubuntu is probably the easiest. I fucking hate their interfaces these days, so get an xfce build imo (Xubuntu). It's light and simple instead of hogging all of your resources for swooshy glam windows.
Go debian with KDE or mate. Debian is relatively straight forward.
>>710612422
Kali, obviously
>>710613276
>linux from scratch
Fuck that, i'm not intrested in building my own os, i'm really not. I got other stuff to blast my time on.

Well, first question before you even install Linux, is is your internet wired or wireless?
>>710613840
>>>710613766
And I say this because if it's wireless, your adapter may not work with linux immediately. You'd have to do some extra steps to get it to.
>>710613831
>>710613840
It really depends - wired on weekends, wireless within the week. Why is that an issue?
>>710613937
Got a wireless adapter? And support for it. Wired you're fine, wireless maybe not.

>>710613276
boi Linux mint is basically Ubuntu
>>710614680
>>710614851
this.
MINT IS BASED ON DEBIAN, UBUNTU IS BASED ON DEBIAN.
[ctrl]+[f] "arch" --> seriously nobody suggests arch?
Try that one. Best to learn how the System works.
>>710614951
i really don't care about the interior since i'm not gonna fiddle too much with the os itself - which one is better?
>>710615099
They're a starter, and doesn't have the time. ArchAnywhere would be better for 'em.
>>710612525
i have been using xubuntu for abput four years, light, fast, friendly, huge comunity, from all the *buntu it's my favourite, would recommend
>>710615099
I period don't period fucking period care how the system works.
>>710615123
If it was really up to me, and it's not, it's your choice, i'd start off with mint. When you're ready, after maybe a year (How I did it) try ArchAnywhere, and then Arch itself.
>>710615168
Agree. Did not know, someone scripted the install.
>>710615123
>>710615123
Mint, it comes with the non-free stuff you would otherwise need to download. Codecs, vlc etc
>>710615261
>>710615261
What Systems are you used to? And, for what purpose do you want the system? Multi-Purpose Computer, or to control something or...?
>>710615348
Oh nice, this was something that seriously pissed me off when i installed ubuntu.

And OP, if you want to email me, feel free to @ [email protected]
Don't care if my email's out, doesn't mean much to me really.

Well i'm used to windows variants but i decided for myself that i'm not gonna upgrade to windows 10 and go to linux because i like the general idea of it. I've done a little but of linux stuff in my university so i know basic stuff, but i'm not anywhere near experienced in this.

I guess, you want a multi-purpose workstation-like machine, then.
Try one of the Debian-Variants, because of how widespread it is, and how many programs are ported over.
Since the Osses are free, it is easy to set up a virtual machine and just try them out, before you install them on your hardware. Check VirtualBox or VMware etc.
Try a search for "Live"-Distros as well, you can boot these from USB/DVD and try them on your Hardware.
>>710612422
Mint. My 66 year old mom can use it with no issues.
Thanks for the input, i'm gonna install MINT.
See ya arround.
>>710616504
>Osses
Really dude? Your advice is fine, but stop that.
>>710616617
Good luck OP.
