That was the agreement assuming nothing gets dug up during investigations.
When I was pretty young, couple months after I had just got my license, some motorcyclist asshole on a 55mph road was driving really slow in front of me, and then when I'd go to pass him, he'd speed up, and keep repeating that annoying shit.
This was out in the middle of rural country roads, surrounded by woods, nobody else was around, no houses for miles, pretty late at night.
I decided to get right on his ass while he went slow in front of me, and then he slowly sped up to like 70-75mph and i sped up right behind him. I remember sitting up in my seat and leaning forward, trying to see just how close to him I could get without my front plate touching his rear wheel.
Suddenly, he shoots forward and then spikes his brakes, trying to get me to do the same, but my breaks were rather shit and I was gonna try to scare him by getting really close before spiking my breaks.
Misjudged the distance, clipped his back wheel, and he went off the side of the road into the trees. I kept driving, I was several hours from home, and scared shitless about what to do.
I went through this agonizing fear where every second that I continued to drive away from the accident, the less able I was to stop like I was legally supposed to. But with every second I drove more, the more the fear that I would get my license taken away or something.
I don't stop, period. I get off that road, drive a few miles away to the nearest major road heading in the same general, parallel direction, fearing the mumbercyclist would catch up to me any minute.
Get home a few hours later, my plate already had some dents in it, now it's a little bent at the bottom, but otherwise no signs of an accident. Hide it in the garage.
Couldn't sleep, checking the news like every hour with intense anxiety. I see an article the next day about a motorcyclist killed in a crash, and holy fuck, same spot, roughly same time that whole thing happened.

I'm glued to my computer, refreshing all the news sites in that area every couple of minutes. The next day, the worst headline "police identify [area] man killed in motorcycle crash". The article had almost the exact time it happened, the exact spot, and it said "excessive speed suspected to be a factor". I guess if some of you are morbidly curious as to what it's like to murder someone, for me, it's the most horrible thing ever. I happen to like the .50 ae. It's the largest practical handgun you can get. Revolvers with larger ammo actually lose a great deal of their energy out the side and can take your fingers off.
