You cannot control the ground with just air power. Air power makes it a lot easier to establish control of the ground by limiting the enemies movement. It will not however root out insurgencies, take out snipers, etc. It will keep the enemy pinned down while ground forces maneuver to take them out.

Probably K2 Black Panther, but Leo 2A5+, Leclerc and M1A2 are comparable. T-14 Armata has a very interesting construction, but its boasted performance sounds like bullshit to me based on the fact that it's like 10 tonnes lighter than all modern tanks...

Actually in the article they explain that they put explosives in the middle of the different layers of armor. It's to counter the effect of the hollow-head missiles. If they do it it's because it's effective.

You cant beat chobham armour, design your tank as cleverly as you like, but nothing says fuck you to cheapo mudslime armies like eating HEAT munitions like your favorite M&Ms. The Abrams' record for combat losses belies weaknesses the challanger doesnt seem to suffer from (yes including a less war mongering government). The gun handling systems on the challenger are top class and crews are well trained. It could win on its own merits alone or at least make the "too close to call" group at the top. Add to the equation battlefield reconaisance and a british armoured division is on equal footing with any other similar fighting force, especially with the introduction of a new scout AFV (the name of which escapes me) and the replacement for the venerable sea king on its way.

The "superiority" of the T-34 is sketchy at best, even with an 85mm it has to scrounge long and hard to find something it does better than a panther in a 1 on 1 comparison.
Of course the strength in numbers and replaceability argument is valid in a large scale war and it is here that (staying within second world war confines) I would throw my lot in with the shermans and cromwells. It pains me to commend the sherman but they represent a much better balance of refinement and ease of production than the T-34 does. Both tanks were ineffective against the heavier of their german opponents until upgraded late in the war but the eventually superior protection, firepower (either the 105mm or QF 17 pounder) and crew provision (not to mention a gearbox operable with something short of a hammer) make the sherman a more well thought out design than the T-34 in my eyes. Unfortunately its just not possible to make proper combat trials with these machines anymore so its trivial to assert one better than the other in absolute certainty.
Challenger 2 still wins though....
