What is wrong with you faggots?

Also top tier tv shows
>Deadwood
Yeah it's a western, get over it, my favorite show of all time which says a lot as I am more of a sci fi guy
>Rome
Only 2 seasons, paced really well, strong characters and character arcs. Can get through it quick as it's only two seasons and it doesn't feel at all rushed and they wrap it up in a satisfying way. Also you might learn something, loosely based on actual history.
>Fargo season 1 (haven't seen 2 yet)
Worth the watch just for Billy Bob Thornton's character and performance alone, coolest bad guy on TV in a while
>The Expanse
Awesome sci fi, has a "hard sci fi" feel to it, good cgi, cool universe building. Only downside is it does take itself a little too seriously sometimes. (Lots of low, gruff, intense dialogue). Otherwise if you like space shit this should be on your list, I think only one season is out.
>Jonanthan Strange and Mr. Norrell
Based on the book, only one season, liberal quazi historical account if magic was a real thing in England, Great performances, creative ideas, and it's one of those "comfy environment" shows
>Misfits
British comedy/drama about a bunch of screw ups that get super powers. Some funny shit
>Peep Show
British cringe comedy, dry and sarcastic as fuck, hilarious. Can get a little over the top sometimes and exhausting but if you need a laugh this is my go to rn

Then the obligatory's we already know about
>Breaking Bad, True Detective, The Wire etc

What's Westwood about?
>>
>>709623930
Fuck yeah, cocksucker, deadwood kicks ass
>>
>>709624182
Basically they're trying to milk an old 1970s film into an entire TV series.

Good luck with that ...
>>

Jonathan strange and norell was pretty great, book was better but that's always the case. I think they did pretty well jamming it all into one season
>>
>>709624706
>total agreement

I loved the book. Also have the audio book which I listen to sometimes. Show was pretty great, for me felt rushed but yes, they were cramming it all into season so I get it.
>>
>>709623930
thx OP, agree about Rome, epic series. will check out them rest.

Like to add Firefly just because teenage boys on the chan prolly wont know it, there's a movie as well to be watched after the series.
make sure you watch the series in the right order, the show flopped because they messed that up.

Agreed, i think Firefly might be slipping off the obligatory list cause it has been a while. Also one of my favorites. Didn't put it on cause I figured the 12 year olds weren't up yet. It's a show I can re watch once or twice a year. Movie was pretty good too

Definitely check out Westworld and Deadwood, as we know anything that HBO does is going to be pretty good, writing, performances, production value

>the wire

Just ok?
>>
>>709625268
I fucking loved the wire back in the days. recently I tried to get into it again but could not get passed the first 30 minutes.
maybe its too old now, the acting, the 'cool' slang they use, its all a bit outdated. but maybe it was just my mood, don't usually mind outdated stuff when its good enough.

also would like to add Nurse Jackie. i'll get flamed for this but apart from the hospital soap and reasonably good acting its mainly a suffocating storyline about a drug addict whom you watch degenerate slowly. quite well done.
>>
Also, disclaimer about Westworld. When you first start watching it you may think
>this is going to be predictable af.

It isn't. Not in the way you'd expect anyway. It has my total attention and am totally invested in where they are going with it because it is kicking ass, especially episode 4 which recently aired.

Good balance of thought provoking ideas, violence, good guys being good guys, bad guys being bad guys and satisfying/awesome humour at just the right moments. Also some super absolutely chilling moments. Westworld is the fucking balls I cannot wait to see what happens.
>>
>>709625583
Some shows aren't gonna hold up, I understand you point. At the time though that shit was dope.
>omar's comin yo

I loved Nurse Jackie, not sure how far I got into it but yeah as a drug user I felt a lot of parallels and you could just feel the imminent train wreck due to her drug addiction.

Great show
>>
band of brother was epic, pacific was horrible and now I hear they are making a 3rd series. forgot what it was about. (ww1 or 2)
fingers crossed they learned from their pacific mistakes, could really use another band of brother-ish series. watch it at least once a year.
>>
Making lists, thanks for adding the descriptions keep going faggots I need shit to watch while I hide in my room during the holidays
>>
>>709626048
Dang, I forgot about Band of Brothers, I never thought it would be possible I could hate David Schwimmer more than I already did. (spelling). Which now is a sorta a switcharoo cause it showcased that the guy actually does has some acting skills. Kinda like Joffrey from GoT. The dude that plays him isn't an asshole but holy shit his character was, that takes skill.

Didn't see Pacific
>>
>>709626241
when I first saw him appear I was ready to stop watching, and I didn't even hate him form Friends and kinda knew he was a good actor.
but seeing his face out of the blue.....

Also Luther. don't ignore it.

Derek, Brit show about a mentally challenged guy living and helping a nursing home stay on its feet.

The Almighty Johnsons, New Zealand family who are really the old Norse gods incarnate.

Toast of London. Another Brit show, failing actor living in the present but it's sort of set in the 60's/70's, Good cast better black comedy.

disagreement. It isn't just about the robots. The plot point revealed in the last couple episodes about the maze is....well, we don't know yet. The show transcends the ethics of robots becoming aware. I think that is the people who aren't watching haven't started watching
>hur dur it's just about robots getting fucked/killed for pleasure

Obviously with the revelation of the maze and the man in black's motivation for hunting it down the story has gone far beyond just the ethics of robots and them "waking up"

I'm back for comfy thread.

roaming through my folder I would like to add;

>Better Call Saul
its the douche attorney from braking bad, now in his own series.
fucking brilliant stuff if you like character development. he is a sleezebag lawyer whom ended up on the bad side of the law (breaking bad) but this series is how he got there, starting out all naïve and actually really likeable.
don't even have to know breaking bad to watch it.
2 seasons

>This American Life
originaly and still a podcast series but they did a tv series as well. its docu stuff, each chapter focusses on odd ways of living, lifestyles that aren't as normal, people with strange ideas.
comfy weird stuff.

Need opinions on Vikings and The Americans, got both show in my folder, not seen them yet. delet or watch?

I don't want to speculate, I know there are a shitload of fan theories out there. Haven't read a single one, mostly because the show is doing just fine on keeping me engaged on it's own.

That said, I have a feeling that Ed Harris is suspicious that he himself isn't living in base reality or something, and the maze is the way to get to the truth.

However "the maze" manifests itself anyway.Could be a physical thing, place, could be an escape pod out of what they think is the real world, and ed harris knows he isn't living in the real world. Something something, Arnold found the secret to reality...

JewJew Abrams is involved, so aint watching that shit.
>>
>>709634500
I liked True dick season 1 a lot, mostly just because it such a character driven show. Yeah, it's a cop show, about cops hunting down a murderer, but it wasn't really about all that. The show wasn't really about the murders, or the murderer, or tracking him down.

It was about the characters and their arcs. Season 2 felt less character driven to me, more story driven. I don't think it is as good as season 1, but I don't fucking hate it like some people do. I thought everyone's performances were good, especially colin farrell, the action was good etc.

Just the story seemed...rushed, convoluted, overly complicated.
>who are these politicians, why should I care
etc
Also the ending left me unsatisfied. Which maybe they did that on purpose, idk. I just know walking away from season 1 I felt like it wrapped up really well, felt good. Truly felt like it was over. Season 2 just seemed to stop.

They failed to engage the audience.
Failed to make logical story lines, like in the beginning there is this one fight in the jungle and next scene the guy gets send to a mental hospital because trauma, but they do not show what got him in this state, you just have to add that shit yourself.

they get into 3 fights and send off to Australia for a rest. wtf guys, you hardly did anything.

it feels like they have the series in the wrong order, like it should be good, if only you knew which chapter to watch first.

no way of getting involved in the characters either, they are just bland and do not trigger anything. who cares if they die, all a bunch of nobodies.

I think they assumed to much in this series, assuming people would know by now how terrible war is so why even bother showing what it was that makes a soldier feel hurt end mentally worn. they just skipped all the things that makes you want to keep watching.

well, it has been a good thread till the faggots started arguing about who is poor
>>
>>709625268
The wire IS just ok. It had some great episodes, and some terribly boring stretches later on.
>>
>>709632671
I dropped it after season 1. I won't go into detail, to avoid spoiling it if you decide to watch.

But I, personally, thought it was not worth my time.
>>
>>709636292
>sort of agree
The same could be said about breaking bad. Pacing was an issue for some people, it had it's moments where it just kinda seemed to drag. However you nailed it on whichever season it was that they took it off the streets and more into the political side of things, started to lose me a bit during that stuff.
>>
>>709636178
Are you too poor to have HBO too?
>>
If the show can pull off a scene like this, you know it's a good show.

who [sopranos] in here?

Read through, noone mentioned black mirror?

Black mirror is god tier
>>
>>709637392
I have that and Utopia, (or something), saved, heard really great things, just haven't gotten around to it.

Also some dutch show about androids..
>>
>>709637392
thx for that. 100%/94% on Rotten, defo gonna try it
>>
>>709637705
My advice start on season 2 or 3. It's anthology so each episode is its own plot world concept. Doesn't matter what order you watched, but season 1 was a little slower to start on
>>
>>709637645
>Also some dutch show about androids..

Swedish, its called Real Humans.

season one is pretty good, but they fail to pick up the pace in S2 and there's are hardly conclusive endings to any of the storylines.

But S1 is nice albeit slow-paced. the phycology behind an android society, from both angles, is quite interesting.
>>
>>709637893
>real humans

Yeah that, don't know why I thought dutch...
I'll give a shot. I don't mind slow pacing as long as it is interesting.
>>
what about orphan black? I know fuck all about it, but have seen some chatter
>>
Haven't read every post but if Black Mirror hasn't been mentioned there's some pretty amazing episodes in that series
>>
>>709638086
S1 is defo interesting. they really made an effort in trying to set up a society with android and all the crap that comes with it. can't really explain too much with spoiling it but worth it if you like how things 'could' work on psychological levels.

Westworld sucks. Boring as fuck. Another piece of jjabram shit. Did I mention that it's quite possibly the most boring show in the history of television?
>>
>>709632635
HBO USED to be great. They have had nothing but misses lately
>>
>>709631241
This American Life. NPR bullshit.
>>
>>709623930
i can't follow this fucking show. i don't know who's a robot and who isn't and it pisses me off.
>>
>>709638596
They have even pushed the next season of GoT to next Summer because they are so confident in this Westworld getting awards n such. They also think the new Season of The Leftovers is going to pull in a large viewership even though it's been one of their lower quality shows with strange concepts and ideas.
>>
>>709638396
coolness, thanks for the heads up. Will probably start watching this weekend, already have it, been sitting on my HD. Just been distracted by other shows
>>
>>709638912
>. i don't know who's a robot and who isn't and it pisses me off.

I started to sorta think that way about it:
>jesus christ anyone of these motherfuckers could be a robot

But when the narrative started to switch to the search for the entrance to "the maze" it took my attention away from that frustration. Now for me, it's less about who is or isn't real, or more about the man in black, his motivations, what is the maze etc.

Also, episode four was fucking awesome. The gunfights, the jail break, the hooker finding the what she found in the floor
>literal fucking creepy chills down my spine
>>
>>709639229
I mean it IS more about the man in black and his motivations and what the maze is.

didn't mean to include that "or"
>>
>>709639229
yeah but the problem is if it turns out everyone is a robot i'm going to be really pissed. i need some suspension of disbelief for it to work for me.
>>
>>709639396
agreement. I doubt it'll turn out that way. I'm sure we will get a surprise reveal that at least some of the workers are actually bots, but I don't think they will hinge the entire series on it.

Would be too weak of an outcome. Because it's an obvious question
>fuck, who is real who isnt
I trust HBO's writing and production abilities. Such a conclusion would be too lazy. Plus, everyone is talking about it already. I think we will get fucking shocked, they are going to rip the rug out from under us somehow, but in a good way.

What stands out with this show is how unpredictable it is. Some are worried it could turn into another "Lost" situation but I find it highly unlikely. The show has it's hooks in me, I would like to know more.

yeah it hits me on several levels

>AI (always fun)
>robots
>amusement park craziness
>blurred line with treating things like this and killing them wantonly
>mad scientists
>amazing sci-fi visuals coupled with old-time, like time travel almost
>hot babes of course and nudity

>fml

>>709640171
see that's not the case for me. i don't really care that much abuot anyone at this point, yet.

The show called Merlin is very good. Has 5 seasons
>>
>>709623930
>Deadwood

Watched this series recently. Thought I was not gpnna like it at all, only was watching it cause I had nothing else to do. Was pleasantly surprised.

>Fargo

I have heard awesome things about this show and have been meaning to watch it, hell I was recording it on my DVR. Almost had the entire first season down, and then my DVR shit out. Pretty heartbreaking.
>>
>>709640323
unwatchable, for me
>>
>>709640251
Same but I love watching the man in black fuck shit up. Plus the guests/hosts in the shoot out
>here for mayhem

Shit was just fun.

I am not "attaching" myself to any of the characters either. It's my curiosity that has gotten the best of me.
>>
>>709640454
Yeah the western theme can turn people off. I am not a huge western fan. I don't mind them and I think there are some great western films
>3:10 to yuma
>unforgiven
>etc
but not really my thing. Just that when you are watching something so themed you gotta commit to that theme. As said in op post, I'm normally a sci fi guy so when people learn it's my favorite show they are surprised.

And you HAVE to watch Fargo s1. It is so fucking great, Billy Bob and martin freeman and fucking master class in it. That show is fucking awesome, it's worth watching just for the elevator scene alone.

Haven't seen season 2 yet but I have it.
