its not so much better as it is different.
For example, Fahrenheit was based on the observational freezing point of Sea Water. Which is useful if you were you know.. in a boat and out at Sea. Celsius based on the freezing point of Distilled water. That isn't terribly useful.for daily life.
Also, in many cases British people STILL use their older imperial system such as weighing things in Stones. Pints of beer and milk. Etc.
We also DO use metric, for example we buy sida in 2 liters. Alcohol is sold as 750mL for the smaller bottles, dailly products such as dental floss, etc. are measured in meters and grams.
Nutrition labels are in metric as well.
Really, both countries use a mixture of systems, but only british people act like a cunt about it and accuse us of using the "Imperial system" (which we don't, you do), We use the US Customary Standard and were the ones who tried to standardize everything in the first place.

>>709625387
I am not saying its better or worse. There are different use cases for using different systems. So much so that WE use metric and YOU use imperial still. Most countries don't strictly follow any system but instead use the system that works the best for that country and there are also all sorts of standards everyone doesn't use. For example, your outlets that every british person is wildly excited about is prob ably the furthest thing from the ACTUAL standard suggested by the ieee and your outlets are actually the result of concessions caused by metal shortages after ww2.
This is the actual ieee standard outlet, which only Brazil uses.
Enjoy being faggots who religiously defend standards when it fits your purpose, then religiously blast standards when it fits your purposes.

You don't use a fucking hammer to tighten a screw and you don't use a grinder when a light scuffing with sandpaper is what's needed. Fahrenheit is the right tool for evaluating your clothing and equipment needs outside while Kelvin is pretty good for dealing with the extremes of space. You want to use a single tool to accomplish many tasks and that usually results in said tool being equally shitty in many things rather than being good at one or a few. That's why that make different sizes of rulers for different tasks, different sizes of hammers for different jobs and different kinds of cars for different purposes. customers ask for one pound (ein Pfund) of something when they want (exactly) 500 grams.
Electrical sockets (outlets) in Germany (Deutschland) usually supply electricity at between 220 and 240 volts AC. If you're plugging in an appliance that was built for 220-240 volt electrical input, or an appliance that is compatible with multiple voltages, then an adapter is all you need.
But travel plug adapters do not change the voltage, so the electricity coming through the adapter will still be the same 220-240 volts the socket is supplying. North American sockets supply electricity at between 110 and 120 volts, far lower than in most of the rest of the world. Consequently, North American appliances are generally built for 110-120 volts.
But that doesn't mean that your specific appliance isn't already compatible with the higher voltage -- it may very well be.
So how do I know whether or not my appliance is compatible with 220-240 volts?
Short answer: The only way to know is to check, and there's absolutely no getting around that crucial step. Electricity is nothing to mess around with, and assuming can be bad news. If you're wrong, you could "fry" your appliance, or worse yet, start a fire.
Despite using a 24 hour clock, you use 12 digits in speech.

germany still uses Karat to measure mass but in most ases the measurement of mass is good but you use karat to measure the quality of gold and you also use karat to measure the mass of a diamond. So not only is it non-standard, you use the same word to measure two completely different things.
In short, germany, just like the rest of the world uses measurements based more on whats practical to them, not what is standard. Just like the US and just like the UK
>>709623544
You aren't understanding the question. He asked about design not practical use. The guy that set up the Fahrenheit scale intended for the upper level to be the human body. Except he did it wrong, so average body temperature is around 98.6. For the low scale he chose what he thought was the coldest thing around, frozen dirt, and set that as 0, so it was totally arbitrary.
We Americans mostly all know that the metric system is more sensible, we're just too stubborn to be bothered with changing.
>>709627937
That and it's never going to be 100 degrees Celsius outside so it's a stupid system for everyday experience anyway

Well...to be fair...while C is typically more scientifically useful and the metric system in general is better for almost everything, I can't really recall a time when I've ever used temperature for anything other than telling me how hot it was outside or for something like baking a cake. In these instances, F is vastly superior since it gives you a better range of practical temperature.
The window of about -10 to 50 C for outside temp is replaced by 0-120. It's much easier to speak in relative terms about whole numbers and a half a degree than 30.125 degrees.
>>709628149
Those are all accepted and used standards within germany for scientific and legal documents that do not comply with international standards or metric. You can bitch all you want, but Germany does not follow the metric system perfectly, nor does literally any country in the world. The superior Kelvin temperature system is as nearly perfect a measure as the Cardinal System for counting items.
As fine as Lord Kelvin's temperature system is, the English Binary Volumetric system approaches its elegance. Yes, it's a huge conspiracy that the American government has perpetrated upon it's uneducated populous that we are the only country to send people to the moon. Someday we'll have Internet access and we'll be able to watch archived footage of all the Swedish and Danish astronauts joyfully prancing around the moon's craters.

Celsius and Fahrenheit are both shit Kelvin is only logic. And people don't change it because the are too used too it and we would need to change standard values for industry and such shit so people are too lazy
>>709623363
yyyy/mm/dd is the correct format. dd/mm/yyyy is acceptable but not standard or preferred. All others are wrong, totally.

It would require a midwife change of road , and re-education if the US were to go from imperial to metric.

You're missing a few countries there, bucko
That said, Fahreinheit remains for the same reason Windows beat out OS/2, or the same reason Apple still makes computers, or the same reason we haven't developed any weapon more powerful than nukes.
Technology has inertia. Once you've invested billions of dollars into something you don't want to scrap it and invent something better -- you just want to keep making incremental improvements.
If every single American already knows Fahrenheit and our laws are written with Fahrenheit units and our textbooks all use Fahrenheit in their examples -- it would be a HUGE investment to switch. You can't just wake up one day and say "okay, we're changing". The reason other countries had a chance to adopt another unit is because 99.9% of their populations were uneducated fuck-peasants who didn't know ANY temperature scales, so they were taught Celsius first. America was so technologically and educationally superior that our population all knew how to read already, sealing our fate.
That said, a few comments on the scales:
>Celsius should be named Centigrade. The INVENTOR of Celsius wanted to name it Centigrade, but "science" is now less about science and more about sounding superior, making money, and credit. So it was named after someone because it's too fucking hard to teach kids the word "100 scale" when you can make them memorize an obscure name
>Fahrenheit is based on halving and doubling. The difference between sea water (73% of Earth, so rather important) at 34.6 and the human body at 98.6 is exactly 64 -- a power of two. Meanwhile the difference between pure water freezing at 32 and boiling at 112 is exactly 180 -- the number of degrees in a half-turn of a radial thermometer, the only thermometer that existed at the time
>Celsius is based on some arbitrary counting base and the freezing and boiling points of one arbitrary molecule. Fahrenheit is based on research and math
>>709630231
'murica had 2 (two) perfect moments to switch to SI but they didn't. easy to guess why
>Fahrenheit is based on research and math
>math based on imperial units
that's why it was made so fucking wrong

good thing that i can watch the first "moonlanding"
and stop pretending that 'murican gov is not a one big lie factory
>>709625765
Murican system is retarded. Metric is sensible. Not British or murican here so you can fuck off with your shithouse arguments
Keep talking about America were known to storm country's and raid your shot and kill your whole fucking culture ask the fucking middle east , Japan, Germany and the continent Africa . No hesitation to send in troops and leave your land in rubble then you dumb fucks will seek refuge in my land . But you'll get treated less then our fellow niggers
>>709630474
So to be clear, you don't believe that Americans have successfully landed on the moon?
>>709630596
maybe later, when russia gave up because it was too expensive and there was nothing to achieve
also:
>Americans have
plz...
>>709630822
Yes, the Russians "gave up". Sure, champ. More like ran out of cosmonauts that anything more than a small pile of ashes that were burned up in the Earth's atmosphere. And explain to me how Americans are not solely responsible for, still to this day - nearly 50 years later - the only country to send people to the moon. Right - that's no achievement. Get fucked, Europor.
>>709624146
kek
>>709631364
>assumptions
>this mad
idc what crap they've pumped into your perfectly empty head. maybe do something worthwile in your life and do some research
>nearly 50 years later - the only country to send people to the moon
not everyone wants to throw up massive amounts of munny and still pay for it, after nearly 50 years
and stop with this 'murican did X crap
