Besides, if you know WHERE to stab and can really rely on your blade, it's at least as effective as long, deep cuts.

The first one makes a good survival knife for cutting branches and it's handle seems to be strong enough to be used as a primitive hammer.
Second one looks like it's made for sheer close-combat killing, thin enough for easily stabbing between ribs and reaching vital organs like the heart or vital veins if you know where these are located.
