The blur/bloom effects in this game are trash by default. You can disable that by choosing skipdraw: 1 in the HW hacks settings in pcsx2. it will "break" the social link tree from showing up and also all on-screen buttons (picking up items, opening doors), but you don't really need them.
I beat it in 4.30 hours and it was worth it.
