Because of places like Austin and Houston, Texas will become a blue state. There is almost no chance in hell it goes blue this time around, but in 8 years, it will be a blue state or at least a leaning blue based off the demographics. Which is actually pretty sad republicans are actually this stupid now. Hispanics are covering Texas and they are strong Christian lifestyles and lots of small business owners, literally what they need in their party, but they talk about walls and lost them all so that is why Texas is changing blue as well as New Mexico and Arizona shifting quickly.
>>709150444
The point is that when you see one of these 270 to win maps you can almost always disregard it as straw grasping.
But there's a chance he might get PA. Slim, but present. Democrat policies have fucking ruined the coal industry there, and the only D strongholds are the dindu infested shitholes.

pretty much this. it will only get worse for republitards as the young tend to vote progressive. They have an aging population that is dying off.
BUT i dont think dems will get the house, maybe they will get the senate. and it will probably shift back during the midterms unless we push hard. and that would require a progressive push, not a centrist push. The republicans have a lot of power from dark money going into these tiny state elections, that actually mean ALOT for how states are run, like education, not a lot can be done about education from a federal level without some big changes.

>>709152038
I used to deliver the mail here in Canada and I collected ballots like these from people who were physically unable to make it to the polls. Unless the American system is really fucked up, I have trouble believing they would label the ballots with "republican" and "democrat" at the fucking post office. The ballots are sealed and you can only find out who they voted for if you open them. The people who tally the votes are the ones that open them, not the godddamn postal workers. If you wanted to destroy all the absentee votes for Trump, then you'd have to open every ballot, which would invalidate all of them. Then once they got to the office where they count them up, your branch would immediately come under fire, and you might be arrested.
It's also unlikely that they would have pre-made labels that say "democrat" and "republican", instead of "Clinton" and "Trump", etc., because semantically speaking elections revolve around the individual who is to be elected, not the party that they represent. Just think, there's almost certainly more than one independant candidate for president, so how would they label those ballots? Both the same?
>>709152168

That hit lasted about a week and after that the economy did better than it did in years. Not only the stock exchange data I posted that, but also exports are up and unemploynent hit a record low last summer. The pound falling isn't inherently a bad thing, as it makes the UK exports cheaper on the international market.
True, any long term effects of Brexit will depend mostly on what kind of economic legislation the UK will implement. But the post I was replying to said that Brexit did serious damage to the British economy. Which is crazy, because the British economy is doing very good since the referendum.

>>709148470
Trump didn't do this to the GOP. The GOP did it to them selves.
The last few elections I've noticed something when Republicans go through the Primaries.....
The Republican primaries destroy their candidates.
As the US slowly becomes more liberal over time. (accepting gays, not caring if they get married, letting women get abortions, easier rules for immigrants, less racism, limitations on who should have guns)
Republican candidates in order to win the Republican nomination need hit all these things and be VERY right wing to get through the gauntlet of proving who is the MOST right.
Then once they win, they have to pivot hard to pander to the people they need to win over... the middle undecided people ( me for example )
I've liked candidates for the republicans... until they seemingly have to force themselves to be super right during the primaries
The main GOP people almost refuses to move their needle to the middle when it comes to these items. Thus they are losing in the face of general slow progression of the american population towards more liberal ideas.
If they just ticked to the middle a little, they would win by a lot.
>Accept gay marriage in the legal system but say that no matter what they will not be aloud to marry in a church that wont except their union.
>Guns are fine middle loves guns
> Lower taxes on middle class and poor people. raise it on the obscenely rich individuals. BUT lower taxes on corporations so they want to stay in this country.
> Better immigration reform to let people in faster, but harsher penalties for the criminal illegal immigrants in this country. And a path for those in the country who are here illegally ... who have been working and paying taxes to this government in some substantial way for the last 5 years.
> Give up on abortion... just stop, it's over.
> More open to climate change and clean energy. for fuck sake it's basic fucking science. you sound stupid to us middle people when u deny it.

About abortion, the GOP have made it VERY difficult to get abortions in a lot of places. Big fight right now, some states have just 1 place where you can get abortions, they have giant waiting lists, are very expensive, you have to have meetings about the fetus before hand, you have to look at a picture of it, you have to get false information that the doctors are required to say. you have to have a funeral for it.
They are trying to squeeze out abortions and get around roe v wade
republicans disgust me with their tactics, me personally, i believe in having the baby then giving it up, but i dislike how they do political shit.
also, TOO BIG GUBMINT TELLING ME WHAT TO DO. then this shit, its such hypocrisy
>>709157029

No. The Pound dropping in value is has positive as well as negative effects for the UK (provided it doesn't keep dropping, which it didn't) and even if it was a negative thing you can't say that the economy is doing badly because of that, as the UK economy significantly improved in other measurements after the referendum. I already mentioned these things in my previous post.
>>709156773
this >>709156721 isn't me. And just look at the stock exchange. After the referendum the stocks plummeted, but one week later they were higher than before. I'd say that the hit is over. Only the pound remained lower than before the referendum, but like I said before, that does not mean that the British economy is in recession.
>>709148470

>>709157029
The democrats and republicans faced the same populist revolt for much the same reasons. Washington isn't serving the public interest anymore. It just so happened that the democrat's protest candidate, Bernie Sanders, was in a tougher position and got beat (perhaps robbed). Trump benefited from the fact that he was up against 17 other republicans and the republican elite weren't as organized behind a single slam dunk candidate like the DNC was with Clinton.

There we go with the name-calling again. Do you have any proof at all that the UKs economy is doing bad right now?
>>709160819
Nate Silver is just going with the information he has at the time. There is no way to predict the following election:
1 highly religious right-winger (Cruz)
1 Trump (anti-establishment whatever)
16 establishment republicans
If things started as 1-1-1, the establishment republican would have won.
>>709160766
Alright, let's try a different approach.

Which are?

How so?
>That hit lasted about a week and after that the economy did better than it did in years.

>Not only the stock exchange data I posted that, but also exports are up and unemploynent hit a record low last summer

>The pound falling isn't inherently a bad thing, as it makes the UK exports cheaper on the international market.
So it's better for the international market and not UK.
>long term effects of Brexit will depend mostly on what kind of economic legislation the UK will implement

>Which is crazy, because the British economy is doing very good since the referendum
As compared to when?
>>709161206
not to mention clinton helping trump by responding to him, making him look more important than he really was. she waned him to win the primary of course, knowing what they have on him.
>>709161323
That was a bit later one when things were whittled down to about 5 people. But yeah, Trump was the easiest right-winger to run against, just like Bernie was the easier left-winger (which is why no republican mentioned him at all).
Nimble America - from an objective standpoint - is much worse than CTR. The amount of pro-Trump paid-shitposting by Nimble America outweights CTR's by the 10's of millions of posts.

>>long term effects of Brexit will depend mostly on what kind of economic legislation the UK will implement

Not that guy, but of fucking course it will. They'll need to renegotiate a lot of trade agreements and re-draft a lot of economic legislation because a portion of previously made, now-extant stuff operates under the assumption that they're a state that is a part of the E.U., which comes with different assumptions and national relationships and requirements.
Obviously there's a lot that can change in the legislature of all of this when done later compared to when it was done initially, so that landscape is definitely going to look more than a bit different. And many their trade deals will be a lot less cozy now than they were, because they'll be trading to or through EU states.
>>709161789
FiveThirtyEight's models predict it going to Trump, but that's subject to change as it's based on verifiable polling; and while Texas is suddenly considered a late-game battleground state it will take time to have those efforts propagate. As her campaign fights in Texas you can probably expect the percentage to even out there at least a little, but I personally doubt it'll swing so severely.
Also, he could still conceivably get Florida: 538 has his odds at 1 in 4. Chances are he won't, but it's not an absolute confidence sort of thing.
That said, it's more likely that Clinton takes Alaska than Trump taking Florida, and his odds are fucking grim in essentially all of the tipping-point states. Even with the clustering effect 538 observed possibly working in his favor (taking one means predicatively that you'll take other specific states) he basically needs to sweep all of the battlegrounds to lock.
>>709148470
Sadly, I don't think that gonna happen. But just two months more, and he will have destroyed GOP. Shame election day is so close.
>>709163312
Do you really think that Trump's a Clinton agent? That he'd destroy his, and his family's lives, brands, reputations - to destroy the GOP?

>Which are?
If the pound looses some value it becomes more attractive for foreingers to import stuff from the UK, because they can get more Pounds for their currency, which is positive for the UK economy because it makes exports go up. However, it also becomes more expensive for people and companies from the UK to import stuff from other countries, which is negative for the UK economy, for reasons I'm sure I don't have to tell you, since you are the one saying a weaker Pound is bad for the economy.
>How so?
Because the UK economy is doing well in a lot of aspects, like in the statistics I posted in >>709160766
.
>That hit lasted about a week and after that the economy did better than it did in years.
Better than it did in years is disputable, but the UKs economy seems to be very healthy. For example in the categories I mentioned the UKs economy is doing good compared to recent years. The FTSE 100 was higher last summer than it ever was since the economic crisis in 2008, save for spring 2015, unemployment is at a record low of 4,9%(http://www.bbc.com/news/business-36844302 and http://www.tradingeconomics.com/united-kingdom/unemployment-rate) and export rates are higher than they were last year.
>Not only the stock exchange...
Alright the record happened before the referendum, but unemployment rates are still as low. I posted unemployment and export data here >>709160766.
>So it's better for the international market and not UK.
The extra demand is beneficial for the UK.
>long term effects of Brexit will depend mostly on what kind of economic legislation the UK will implement
With that I mostly meant whether the UK will actually leave the EU or not and if yes, whether the UK will get a free trade deal with the US and/or EU. I will not adress this point further since that is not what I'm disputing.
>Which is crazy, because the British economy is doing very good since the referendum
I think I covered that at the 'better than in years'-part
>>709164452
oh wow you're still campaigning for brexit, even though the UK's still in the EU.... even after the pound dropped significantly after the vote. 300,000 jobs lost so far.

>>709164452
>which is positive for the UK economy because it makes exports go up.
Close.
It makes exports more profitable, because the same doodad that could previously be exported for n pounds can now be exported for 1.2n pounds, which means if it costs 1.1n pounds to make*, it can be exported at a profit of 0.1n instead of a loss of 0.1n.
This is why China is such a competitive exporter: its central bank and government take measures to keep its currency's value low.
* this is not a valid assumption if it's made from stuff that needs to be imported.
So democrat leftist liberal fucks seem to want a 1 party system it looks like

Republicans aren't smart enough to pull something off like that.
