Usually I use an old Gillette safety razor that I think is from the 30's or 40's. I have a later Gillette Tech and this Merkur bakelite one and a few others.
I have a few decent brushes and different soap options. I recently got this 'OPR Shave Soap' which is weird in that it's a thin liquid and barely lathers but gives a great shave. I'd recommend that to beginners.
I've been shaving like this for about 8 years. Overall, I love a lot of things about the safety razor and my whole process. Once I perfected a process that works well for me I got great results with no skin irritation.
I use all sorts of blades and I like different ones with different razors, but I think I these Astra greens are great all-rounders. I bought 20 packs of 5, each with two sides, for about $20. So that's 200 total blades. At the rate I use them that's going to be years of shaving.

I use one of these for my clean shave, and have a set of electric clippers if want to have some facial hair to groom (I do sideburns or wolvie chops on occasion). Love the oldskool shaver tho. Way better for the environment too than throwing out plastic razors constantly like some people. I've had this steel razor for almost fifteen years now.
