John Carpenter's The Thing is awesome, the special effects always make me so happy that someone put in the effort to make them look so amazing. The Gate and Monster Squad are more classic horror movies focusing on kids saving the day. They are still fun movies with really disturbing moments but not for everyone.
Last time I showed one my friends a movie I recommended they basically hated it and never took any of my recommendations ever again so... :(
