Good afternoon B, I'm currently doing research on the Flat Earth conspiracy. I have a few questions that I haven't been able to find a solid answer for. Trolls are welcome to the discussion but I'm currently doing research for a project so if you would be so kind as to only join the thread if you wish to contribute to the conversation. (Although, the "theory" does seem quite delusional and asking for cooperation seems ironic.) Both sides of the argument are absolutely welcome. Any further information provided will also be appreciated. 1) What exactly is at the end of the ice shelf? And what does it lead to? 2) What is at the North Pole? 3) Explain why sundown is 2 minutes later at the top of the Burj Khalifa than it is at the base? 4) Are there any notable academics, scientists, or leaders who believe in the Flat- Earth model?

That gif you are using makes no sense, you can see the moon because the sun'a light reflects of it. if the model in the gif was real, either time zones would be different, or you could not see the moon.

>>
The theory is that the moon is luminescent and time zones are a human construct.
>>
I was actually very active in the society a while back. Stopped posting about a year ago. I was one of the more prominent flat earth enthusiasts. To answer some questions, the earth ends at the south pole, so beyond the ice wall is... most likely nothing. No independent group has ever been there, though, so nobody really knows. The north pole is at the north pole. I'm not sure what you mean. The way it works is the north pole is in the center while the south pole is all around the edge. East and West describe motion counter clockwise and clockwise around the north pole. To name one prominent figure of FET, Dr Samuel Robotham.
>>
>>708559148
you cant just assert that the moon is luminescent
you have to explain it as well. As for time zones being a human construct, if you have ever taken a long distance flight you would know that to be false.

I think you're getting acceleration confused with velocity. Velocity has to be measured from an external FoR. Acceleration can be felt without gauging velocity or being an outside observer.

acceleration is the rate of change of velocity. if the acceleration is positive, the velocity is increasing. your point is invalid.

It's not at all. You don't feel the half a million miles an hour you're travelling right now. You don't feel the 60 mph on the highway. However, you bet your ass you'd feel that drop from 60 to 0 in 2 seconds when you crash into a wall.

what's your point? it still doesn't explain gravity. all you've said is you can't feel velocity.

My point is that if the entire universe is accelerating upwards, there would be a universal force. You'd be able to feel that force. That's what a force is. Velocity is irrelevant.
>>
>>708565151
How so?
>>
>>708564589
well if the earth is accelerating then one of two situations must be true, either we are accelerating and the sun is not, so we should eventually crash into the sun.

Or, the sun is also being accelerated meaning that the sun would also have the same amount of gravity as earth (silly enough) well that would mean that the sun would have a trail opposite to 'up' so the sun would appear to be comet shaped.

Unless ofcourse the sun maintains its own itengrity because it has its own gravity, which would invalidate the rest of the universal acceleration theory (why just the sun and not earth?)

Also, if the sun and earth are being equally accelerated then what is the source of this acceleraiton? why does it affect only celestial bodies and not us? is the force applied at some imaginary bottom of the world say 10km deep? where does the force get applied to the sun?

If universal acceleration affects all matter equally then there would be no percieved gravity.
>>

i think he's referring to Newton's Laws of physics. Consider the Mythbusters experiment when they shoot a ball out of a cannon at 60mph or some shit while the cannon is moving 60mph on a truck. The ball stays in one place.
>>
>>708565339
Acceleration is felt as a force. I'm not sure what's so hard to understand. If the entire universe is accelerating, we'd all feel a force. Which we do. Look into the equivalence principle.
>>
>>708565575
Next time you're in the universe, notice how you stick to the ground and things fall downward.
>>
>>708563704
No more absurd than a force keeps us on a spinning ball at 1000 mph
And regardless of organism density , everything is held to the earth at the same rate
And gravitational pull is a theory that is relatively unexplainable anyhow
So scientists can explain away a theory with another that can't be explained but is acceptable ???

That was a cool episode.

One of their earlier one's they tested "gravity" as they call it, to see what would happen if you jumped at the last minute if an elevator was free falling toward the ground.

Unfortunately gravity wouldn't let the myth buster's win.

Let me guess. You're a race-baiting welfare hypocrite who votes Democrat because "hurr durr racist i'm a victim."

Fucking get over it. Michael Brown was a criminal who got what he deserved, the black community gets what it deserves for glorifying gangbangers and criminal activity and holding themselves down by refusing to leave the Democrat welfare plantation. If they stopped bitching how their laziness was somehow the white man's fault and the Republicans' fault and the police's fault, they wouldn't be in the fucking mess they're in. Their schools are shitty and their communities are all crime-ridden slums because they don't give a shit about education or work ethic or personal responsibility because they think it's "acting white." Hell, every Democrat run city eventually turns into a crime-ridden ghetto. What, you faggots think acting like thugs is acting black and "keeping it real?" You dumbfucks are the first to bitch "profiling" when a gangbanging thug is perceived as such by society. You can't brag about being an insane criminal and then expect to be respected as though you were an upstanding citizen.

When im in a car and the car accelerates I feel a force extrinsic to my body pushing against my back. But if the force were evenly applied to every single atom in my body and in the car then there would be no force felt between me and the car. There is no relative difference.

If there is universal acceleration then that would mean that all matter is equally accelerated, so there would be no relative force.

Furthermore, Hispanic is not a race. Any one of you common core retards who say shit like "light skinned hispanic" should be punched in the fucking mouth. Mexican is not a race; in fact that country is infinitely more racist and worships whiteness than you politically correct faggots accuse the tea party of being.
>>
>>708566544
Please at least try to understand how you're wrong. A force is a push or a pull. If you stopped accelerating, you wouldn't feel a force, because there is no perceived difference in velocity. The force that pushes you back in your chair is acceleration. It doesn't matter how universally a change in velocity is felt, it's still felt.

>>
>>708559562
To my knowledge they believe that earth is accelerating upwards at 9.8ms^2 which would essentially be the same thing. I'm not sure about how that works with relativity but that's the cursory explanation.

>>
>>708567284
I am pretty sure you can follow a reply chain all by yourself
>>
>>708567095
>acceleration
the Earth is not accelerating
it spins at a constant velocity
it travels around the Sun at a constant velocity
it travels with the Sun around the galactic center at a constant velocity

think of the last time you were in a car
when the car was traveling at a constant speed did you feel how fast you were going?
no
you might have seen or even heard how fast you were going
you most likely felt the car as it accelerated to and from that speed
but constant speed is not something the human body can sense
>>
>>708567095
earth rotation isnt accelerating you mong. its actually slowing. even if it was constant, you can observe the effect with anons car example. if you acclerate to 60 mph, then stay at 60, you feel no force on your body until you decellerate or accellerate more.
>>
>>708556425

its all perspective. if you were traveling at the speed of light earth is definitely flat.

>>
>>708567627
>universe's constant acceleration
wait, wat? as in expansion? or do you believe the "universe" is accelerating in a single direction within some sort of larger space-time? this is really confusing.
>>
Acceleration != gravity
If everything in the universe were accelerating at the same rate (9.8 m/s^2) and I jumped up I'd accelerate slightly faster than the earth in the same direction just for a moment, then I'd slowly settle back down to the original 9.8

I would float in the air.

>>708566875

Yes. Look into aether theory. Einstein lectured about it. Think of what you call the universe as an aether bubble, and outside is just space. The universe as you know it (I.e. the propagation of light) ends at the edge, but outside is just space that the universe accelerates through.

There are 50 space agencies around the globe. 155 moon missions by 6 different countries. 112 spacecraft manufacturers. 10 space stations, 7 of them being russian, some of them launched during the cold war (a time when the world wasn't really getting along.) 1100 active satellites. 43 missions to venus. 40 missions to mars. 9 missions to jupiter. 9 missions around the sun, 5 missions to saturn, 17 asteroid and comet missions. what do we call the nonexistent sense for continuous velocity?
hard mode, don't make up words like "demiqueer"

also
a continuous acceleration of 1g will have us going the speed of light after ~1 year
and as you approach the speed of light more energy is required to maintain the same rate of acceleration

A better set of questions would be: How do you explain the recession and growth of the polar ice caps with a flat earth? How do you explain satellites rotating on different axes than the sun and moon? How do you explain mirages we see along the horizon on hot days? All of these point to a curvature or a spherical Earth. Those who question that fact not only refute the realities of the universe, but do so because they just want to question something in a deluded point of view that they seem to prefer.

I happen to have a close relationship with an "ex-military type". He was a sniper actually. One time a while ago he was telling me about how shots past certain ranges have to take the Coriolis effect into consideration or else he would miss right or left (depending on where he was).

I would like someone to explain to me how this effect would work on a flat Earth.

One might assume that the earth, being flat as a disk, is spinning around an axis through the center and that the bullet deviates due to this spin.
>>
>>708571429
Deviation is different depending on what hemisphere you are in. This is testable and observable.

Hemispheres only exist on spheres.
>>
>>708571552
Of course it's testable and observable, but one would have to individually perform these tests to believe them lest they chalk it up to some other 'conspirator' who's "in on it".

This is more effort than the average flat-earther would involve themselves in.

nice false equivalence there

the amount of energy needed for the big bang is unknown
for the same reason that the conditions of the universe prior to the big bang are unknown
the big bang effected everything in the universe destroying all evidence of those conditions

flat earth theory, however, has no explanation of why the source of energy for accelerating the earth is unknown, or even why it has been impossible to go look over the edge and see what is there

and just to throw another wrench in the FET

>>
>>708574595

>>
>>708574722

>>
>>708574908
False
>>
>>708574791
The universe =/= space.
Space is expanding, the universe isn't. I never liked the way people described expansion because it erroneously implies EVERYTHING is expanding.
Space is expanding observably because everything is moving away from each other. This moving away is actually increasing, and since we see no visible force acting on the celestial bodies, we say that space itself is expanding, for *some* reason.
>>
>>708556425
according to this gif, light randomly decides to stop at some point. i mean, if it was flat, why would it be dark on the other side of the earth? whats a common tinfoil-hat explanation to this?
>>
>>708574908
The universe, as far as I know and the last time I checked, has a bunch of stuff in it. Although, maybe we're living in two separate universes.
>>
This isn't really an argument at all, but for the "Earth is accelerating upwards theory", I did some math. After accelerating at one gee or 9.81 m/s/s, Earth would have surpassed the speed of light after only one year of accelerating. Kinda cool, and also totally debunks that part of the argument.
>>
>>708574319
Shits easy. Simply presenting the question to the Flat-Earthers.
>>
>>708574944

It's a fact that the things IN the universe are moving APART. There is NOTHING saying that the UNIVERSE is accelerating. We wouldn't be able to measure the acceleration of the universe because we can't even SEE all of it.
>>
>>708575052
Space itself is expanding. I know this. There is no misunderstanding and no mistakes.
>>
>>708574698
specific retard
and longitude has nothing to do with the proof I provided
both distances are (mostly) east-west
and when you take the north-south distance out of the L.A.-Vegas route it is still longer than than the longest straight east-west width of Sydney
and that is using a northern polar projection map which is the most common map claimed to be a true map of the Earth (ie having no distorted distances)
>>
>>708575075
In the flat-earth 'theory', the sun is much closer and much smaller, thus causing that phenomenon.

It's like swinging a tiny LED in a large dark room on a pendulum.
>>
>>708575192
Well, we can measure how fast the stuff in the universe is separating. They call it redshift. We can also measure how much this force accelerates, let's say, a ball, downwards. It's what they call 1G.
>>
>>708573501
then you were taught wrong about science gtfo lmao

>>
>>708575075
i think the theory states that the sun is actually closer than we think and because of this the sun acts more like a spotlight.
>>
>>708575448

>>708556425

>>
>>708575493
Not empty space. However, a perfect vacuum is only theoretical. So the space you're talking about does indeed have mass.
>>
The simplest argument to btfo flat Earth is that you can construct a triangle on a sphere with three 90 degree angles. That is impossible in Cartesian geometry.

If you were to walk, make a 90 degree turn, and repeat twice more, you'd end up where you started if earth was a globe, which it is. If you tried that on a 2d plane, you would be nowhere near where you started. Case closed.
>>
Round earth = Spherical planet orbiting a star in a solar system that is itself orbiting with a galaxy. An elegant solution to all observable evidence.

Flat earth = Disk that is somehow accelerating up forever in a bubble universe that is also accelerating forever at the same rate in "aether". A theory that requires a long string of convoluted, unproven or even testable assumptions to support it.

Simple; do flat earth theorists believe that the Moon and the Sun shrink and expand?

getting crazy...

One paradigm-shattering truth after another! I am seriously at the point where I am starting to see that the entire system as a lie. It's crumbling down around me and I am jumping for joy! Now I know why as a child I was so reluctant to believe many of the popularized myths like Dinosaurs and Space Travel. They just never rang true for me! And now they're laughable. Thank god I didn't invest too many neural pathways into BS things like this.
