What are you drinking tonight /b/?
Pic related. Been drinking it since I was about 19. I'm now 25. Does the ride ever end? How does one kick this habit?

>>708225307
youre a faggot and your father is ashamed he had you
Been drinking since I was 14, almost 40 now. The ride never ends, which is why it's always up to you to be the master of your own life-changing mechanisms.
If you hand the bottle the keys, it won't ever give them back until you hit rock bottom and forcefully take them back. Just stay in control of your shit, even if that means having to have some really, really bad nights to scare you straight.
Alcohol can be a good tool and escape, just don't turn it into a medication.
now now children, don't argue over something as dumb as vodka
>>708223221
i'm probably gonna hit a bar with a few friends, because i have a few days off now.
being a club dj got me somewhat hooked because i feel like if i'm not slightly buzzed, i don't feel the vibe of the place as good as when buzzed or drunk and there for don't deliver as good sets as i can.
And i don't know what to make of it because i finally started to make a living of it

>>708225681
Gin is only good if mixed with tonic water though..
>>708223221
you just gotta detox and focus your attention and addiction to something that takes up all your time. also, weed helps with detoxing and drinking in general. the ride never ends but if you can kick the habit and ride it out for a few weeks, kicking it forever becomes really easy the longer you kick it.
this is coming from a former alcoholic whose been somewhat sober for 10 years now. I miss it every day but i'd rather have my health than have alcohol. i still get drunk every once and awhile but i do it in moderation now.
>>708225870

>>708225870
Depends on the gin, shit gin should be fixed up like a Moscow Mule, good gin with tonic.
>>708225628
I never drink during work, you need to keep a portion of your life free from the booze otherwise you start losing your sense of identity.
Keep it compartmentalized and separate from a few important aspects of who you are, and you'll always be dominant over it.

holy shit so true. you really do lose your sense of identity. being drunk for so long, the only self you know is the drunk self. the hardest part for me was having to rediscover this really dysfunctional person while sober
Im not drinking tonight, but i'm whipping up a new batch of shine as preparation for the weekend.
>>708226106
like 4 hours ago i work at a bar
I started drinking when I was 18, got a bar job when I was 19 and basically got to drink as much as I wanted for free. Almost died of alcohol poisoning three times by the time I was 21. So basically just drink until you're almost dead a bunch of times and you'll eventually dial it back a bitch.

anyone drinking to curve the withdrawals? anyone wake up after drinking all night and have to jug a beer in order to feel your left arm again? Anyone drinking because you get a weird pinch in your heart if you dont drink? Anyone feeling these symptoms every thirty minutes if you dont drink?
This is real addiction.
>>708226537
When did you last reply on /b/ and in what kind of thread?
>>708226107
That is a fine question, and I'm not kidding here.. I would give myself the same answer, but even through the worst of shit.. it's all temporary. You're not going to be a drunk, that's never anyone's goal. Life is just a collection of phases and lessons, so the fact that you're even wondering about yourself and drinking means that you're not going to stop paying attention to that.
You're probably going to decide (or someone else will decide for you) that enough is enough, and you're going to have plenty of sober spots in life to continue thinking about it.
Just don't get carried away, it can cause some physical shit that is really annoying. Just don't stay here for too long, basically.
Any alcoholics in recovery?
It's been two months, no more feeling of needing to get drunk but I've been craving HARD for just one beer. Been contemplating on going and buying a tall one but not sure if it's a good idea.
>>708226378
I much prefer the smoother taste of the gentlemen jack to the regular jack. But I agree about the single barrel. Not worth it, in that case.
>>708226852
Don't do it man, you'd have to reset your time. Two months is awesome, it's so much more than "just getting started".
Not worth blowing for just one night.
>>708224537
Platinum tastes so good!
>>708226852
Kek, you are only an alcoholic if you have gone in one of those meetings, stood up and said, "I'm an alcoholic." Otherwise you are a drunk.
>jd
why don't you drink something that's actually good?
>>708226852
8 months for me, it gets easier. keep it up man whenever you feel like drinking hit a meeting/call your spons. try to figure out why you want the drink.
>>708227124
Eh, I think an alcoholic is someone who has come to terms with the negative influence it might have in their lives. A drunk is someone who doesn't give a shit.
>>708226753
so true. the nights where it got out of hand were nights that made me want to quit. but the withdrawals were so bad i had to just drink a little and before i knew it, i was back to binge drinking.
i hated myself when i was sober because i thought i was this anxious, depressed and socially awkward person. when i sobered up for more than a week, all of those problems went away.
but those problems went away because i started preoccupying my mind. i got a job that took up all my time but when i got off i would force myself to be proactive. that was a huge reason i was binge drinking.
can i ask how old are you now?
>>708226852
nah dude don't do it. two months is miraculous. what's making you crave a tall one?
>>708226991
yeah. cuz once you blow it, it's much easier to blow it again the next day and get right back into the cycle.
>>708227172
8 months. that's almost a year without drinking. fucking cheers, man.
>>708227299
I'm 38. The important thing to remember is that you once existed in a form that was just fine without the drinking, you didn't have the depression and anxiety because you hadn't been there yet. It is possible to get back there again, it is normal for it to take months. But your brain isn't going to hang on to something that obviously isn't going to come back anymore, and physiology is smart. It will get its shit back together and learn to adapt to life without it, adjusting levels of pleasure accordingly. This will happen, I'm not making it up.
Yea no alcohol for me thanks.

i've been on the bender for at least two years now. i've only drank beer but the alcohol content ranges anywhere from 5.9% to 8.0%. should i be concerned about my health? and if not, and i quit drinking tomorrow and never drink again, do you think I'll have long-term symptoms?

I started smoking to deal until a bad experience with spice on probation. Went from drinking at parties to replacing smoking with drinking, downfall was I have high tolerance so there was no medium between buzzed and drink till it hit like a wall. At the point now where I somewhat have withdrawals and wake up to top off before work so I don't feel them throughout the day
>>708228270
From a normally healthy person who has been there, I can say that you've probably become accustomed to the difference now. Dehydration, sluggish intellectual thought processes, nothing that'll take you out during normal daily life, but it adds up.
The most helpful thing ever is to have some additional fuel, motivation. Learn all the effects it has on you long-term, find a personal cause to help push you through it. If you can get high on life for just a little bit, just long enough, you'll be gold quicker than you know it. Get all healthy and work out, just to see what it's like from the other end of the spectrum and your mind won't want to go back.

>>708228846
Exactly. Like to drink but smoking was definitely better
>>708228767
Withdrawals suck no matter what they're from. And sometimes they can get bad. No matter how bad it is, someone out there is wishing they had it just a little better. Maybe as good as you. Or maybe not.
You just have to get through it though, and you will because time won't stop. Just keep that in mind, the last few minutes are a few minutes less.
Even if you can't smoke because of probation, there is always something out there for you, that will take your mind away just long enough to get through the worst moments of making a big change. Maybe it's blasting some music or working out pretty hardcore, meditation, or playing some guitar. Just learn how to distract yourself in a way that will work in your life, you can get through shit if you really want to check yourself out on the other end of the spectrum and be able to make an educated comparison.
>>708223221
Drinking Shiner here.
>>708228978
If you can, always smoke weed over anything else to try and get past an addiction. It's better for you than anything else you can possibly lean on, and it's actually really good for you. Just don't let it inhibit your daily routine of course.
>>708228817
jesus. you've literally described my conflict with alcohol. my lips are chap and nearly grey from dehydration. my thoughts are sluggish... i've just become an idiot basically.
i have several personal causes that motivate me now. i think the biggest thing is that one night, i got really drunk and almost hit my wife. she's stuck with me through all this alcoholism but that night she realized that it's gotten very bad. that's what's made me stop. i nearly hit her and scared the piss out of her. i almost jumped off our balcony that night too.
i just have to go back to my old ways, take it like a man, and know that i'll be better.

Yes, yes, and yes.
Great shit. It had a lightweight buddy of mine headbutting cars in the Taco Bell parking lot a while back, then he tripped in the drive thru while trying to piss and spent the next couple of minutes laying on the ground screaming at the sky at the top of his lungs.
>>708229538
If you can use these new (and old) motivations, charge them up with energy and make the change right now, while it's all still fresh, then maybe you can get through enough days to start to notice your body eagerly beginning to adapt, and your wife will still be there the next day the same person as she was, but you'll be entirely different.
Honestly, it often takes the absolute worst to jar the piss out of people. Remember, everything *always* progresses, it is the nature of time itself. Until you get bored of it, or something stops you from continuing, everything can always get worse if you give it that kind of support. If you can stop things in its tracks now, you'll save yourself a lot of time and heartache later. A lot of people will have to hit their worst to get where you are, and sometimes the damage cannot be undone. You still have a lot to be thankful for.
>>708229948

>>708228846
I know what you mean. After they made spice illegal in my area I went back to weed and it just wasn't the same. I didn't even enjoy the taste anymore, let alone how weak it was.
That was a few years ago, now I gobble that shit up just like I did before spice. And it's delicious again too. But if spice was still legal here, I probably wouldn't be able to say any of that with a straight face lol.
>>708230302
Hey going cold turkey with alcohol can be really dangerous. I'm not really clear on your exact situation but if you've been drinking a lot for a long time it's a good idea to detox with medical supervision
OP here. Kinda blanked out for about 30 minutes there. I keep listening to music from the mid 2000s when I was a late teenager. Nostalgia is a powerful trigger for me. Life felt simpler then, it was okay to be apathetic and indifferent. I miss that feeling.
But there has been some good advice in this thread about how to not become a full blow alcoholic. Thanks for the words. I hope everyone take hold of their addiction and makes it their bitch.
>>708230302
Go cold turkey, for real. There is no need to enjoy one last taste, you're already plenty familiar with that. Going a day will be a new adventure though, and the sooner you start the sooner you can be on your way to a few days, then a week. Then a month before you know it. And you're going to be all healthy and having to piss all day long like a normal person. It's going to be great, you'll be glad you didn't hang on to any beers because it's going to make for a better start. You're going to feel great soon!
the best cure for a hangover is this:
drink a tall glass of water and take two advils before bed.
drink a tall glass of pickle juice in the morning
eat a bag of beef jerky or drink protein milk
pickle juice is chalk full of electrolytes which hydrates the body.
the protein soaks up the sugar in your body which increases the hydration process. that's why eating a greasy hamburger is suggested for hangovers but we all know it's nearly impossible eating anything while hungover. Beef jerky is easier to eat, has a lot of protein, and can be eaten while on the go.
a doctor told me this once, trust me.
All this.
>>708230807
don't take Advil after drinking, serious kidney damage.
Never tasted alcohol in my entire life. Is it any good? Does it have any benefits, or is it just a "pleasure thing"?
kraken and sprite for chaser if needed. good but a lot of sugar
>>708230617
He is right, but only you can judge what kind of condition you're in. Alcohol addiction is very real and it can kill, if your addiction is that level. You said you're only drinking beer right now which is better than slamming fifths every day, but it can still be severe nonetheless. I'd recommend taking some steps on your own and judging your situation and effects, and get help if you don't think you can safely quit. But if you can, then cold turkey is always the best. If it's serious though, weaning is probably better. Either way, having it control you like that is one more reason to be free from that shit.

i drink very high alcohol content beer and it's anywhere from 10-15 a night. just judging from the way i feel, i shouldn't go cold turkey.
there's some night where i wake up after only sleeping for three hours and feel like im having a stroke. my head has this weird, buzzing, rush that keeps me from sleeping. i nearly jump out of bed from the withdrawals, chug a beer, and try to go back to sleep.
it's just as bad as someone drinking liquor. i drink more than 12 hours a day. i wont be going cold turkey. it's gonna be a process.
>>708231159
I'm glad you did too man, don't forget that none of the time you spent drinking too much is a waste. The memories of those times will always be with you to remind you that you've already been there and have decided to move on to better things while you still have plenty of good life ahead of you!

It was another guy in here that was offering you the amazing advice.
Drinking has been getting a problem for me as well so I was looking here for advice. It's been kicking my ass and my wife has been nothing but exceptionally understanding. We are about to have our first kid soon so I'm quitting drinking like a dumb ass for her and our child.
I can't have my kid see his dad miss work cuz he decided to drink a bottle of wine in the morning. I'm embarrassed by the thought.
Ugh.. having said that. I am here for you too. I'm starting on my path to finding soberer times like you. I am Canadian. Living in Vancouver.
>>708230953
noted. just a bunch of water, no advil.
>>708231193
never even thought about it, i'll try. i have not your fathers that my friend has
>>708232204
ah, my bad. you and the other guy were typing the same way. with all your fancy capitalized letters and perfect grammar.
yeah but it's been kicking my ass too. have you ever scared the piss out of her while drunk?
my wife's told me that she won't have a child with me until i quit drinking. i don't blame her. my father was a drunk and was just a dick. i've become even worse than him. in fact, i hadn't seen him for years until recently. it was at my sister's wedding. he didn't even recognize me and thought i was one of my brother-in-law's friends.
Anyone here got any positive stories of being drunk all day erry day?
>>708233195
I drink to deal with my stress and insomnia. So drinking mellows me out and I pass out. Sometimes waking up to puke.
I cherish my wife and I know I'm lucky to have her by my side. Drunk or not I would never hurt her. She likes me being social and drinking when I'm out. She doesn't see I need to quit cuz I hide a lot of my drinking from her. Drinking from the bottle when she's showering. If I have no self control I just have to quit having alcohol at home.
That's been my assessment of my situation anyways.
If you have been scaring ur wife it's more of a reason to quit. It sounds like you really have been assessing this and you've finally questioned is the situation your in where you want to be. You don't have to be a fortune teller to kinda guess where your path will lead.
Take back control and tell your wife u need her to support you in this decision. Your life will brighten up when you're not seeing it from the bottom of a bottle.
