In the 60s and 70s during the civil rights revolution we were adopted into a Nanny state that provides welfare and removes a lot of the elements of consequence to life.
People no longer need to stay together, work through issues, etc etc for the sake of family and property, because the government will take care of the woman regardless. There's no incentive to actually try anymore because failure doesn't have any lasting consequences for the woman.
