Funny you mention that, because the scene in the gif is somewhat related to that one. In the moment, Walt letting Jane die is played off as him doing what's best for Jesse, which is a reoccuring thing throughout the show. Walter tells himself he's doing what's best for others, when in reality his motivations are purely selfish, and the excuses get flimsier and flimsier as he does worse and worse things. By the end of it he's lost everyone he has to love and has nobody left to do terrible things for. It's only then when he says "I did it for me. I liked it," that confesses to his selfishness.

Near the beginning of the episode, Dr Cox and JD run into an middle age previous patient who's extremely annoying. She tells them how terrible her life is going (but she's upbeat, so they thought nothing of it), and basically reaches out, but doesn't to JD. JD then ignores her and moves on with his busy life.
She "commits suicide" and JD feels like it's his fault. Dr Cox takes JD out for lunch, explaining it isn't. Dr Cox tells JD " Once you start blaming yourself for deaths that aren't your fault, my friend, that's a slippery slope that you can't come back from. And trust me, I've seen it ruin a hell of a lot of good doctors and I will not let it happen to you." JD feels better.
So, the woman who committed suicide is a perfect donor for 4 of Dr Cox's sick patients, and Cox uses the middle-aged woman's organs. Little did he know, she was killed by rabies.
Cut to scenes where he's trying to save the 4 patients, and they all die. Broken, Cox snaps off his gloves, and walks out the door, stricken with guilt.
JD stops him before he leaves, and tells Cox, "Once you start blaming yourself for deaths that aren't your fault, that's a slippery slope that you can't come back from."
Dr Cox turns around, tears in his eyes, and says, "I know".
