>>707291616 It doesn't matter if I do, if he's benevolent then he won't care as long as I not out slaughtering people. Not to mention that God in the Christian sense is a new thing in comparison to other civilisations and their gods like the Egyptians and compared to other religions like Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism etc.
So really, it matters less about what type of being you believe in more in how you live.
>>707291616 honestly i gave it my best shot to believe in god. i did everything i possibly could because it was extremely important to my wife that i be a christian man. but after years of trying to serve god and appease him i realized hes not there. ive never once genuinely felt his presence. as much as i want to believe i just cant. either he's real and has rejected me or theres just not a god. and im fine with that. ive accepted it
Because belief in a God insists that you should dismiss the realities of nature and that ultimately makes the world seem dull and less astonishing than it really is. Belief in God teaches people to be okay with not understanding the universe. The great and almighty God has granted us no real comprehension of the universe and has no bearing on current political and social events unless it be violent. Oh, and almost every religion has had a violent past. Which is the scary part of religion. People can do the most atrocious, inhumane things believing their doing good things, whether it be flying jets into sky scrapers, decapitating infidels, or sacrificing children on top of mountains to show your faith to God. Disgusting immoral morals.
>>707293242 Though i agree with you, and identify mostly as an atheist i guess one thing: >Oh, and almost every religion has had a violent past.
Humanity in its essence has a violent past, religion isnt anything special, various beliefs like politics, football teams, etc cause shitty encounters that result in violence and horrible things, the people behind most ''religion driven'' attacks i could bet arent believers at all, they just brainwash the pawns to fly the plane while they sit in the dark
Religion is just about as immoral and violent as humanity would be without it
>>707292438 even if that were the case, which it's not, but fine even if it were, what does that have ANYTHING to do with god? It'd a bajillion jillion jillion times more likely its a simulation made by another cognitive agent than the creator of base reality.
>>707293829 I don't think so. Religion has the power to unify and in turn divide large sums of people. What leads to tensions between people is conflicting ideologies, and that's how it has always been. You don't think the way I do, then you deserve to die.
Religion has served as humanities ultimate catalyst for fomenting violence, simply because it gives people a way to rally. And once two of these congregations clash, the result is almost always violent rather than peaceful.
The common point of view is as you said, that people are impetuously violent and it's just a fact of life. But if you take away religion, there really wouldn't be anything else for humans to rally behind, and they might find something else, but an atheist world would allow far more success than a religious one.
Look, the idea of god makes things too simple, and answers to any question you can imagine, because of the way this idea was built, a simple idea of ancient humans, weve been evolving, our minds expanding, its just natural for me not to believe in god, when you look at science the answers so beutifully complex are turned down by religeous ones because its too complex
>>707295134 Nazi had the belief that they were racially superior. USSR was just a failure of a system, fundamentally totalitarian, with the unconvincing facade of a communist state.
I see your point, but by religion, I meant ideology. The moment we stop giving a rats ass what other people believe the better off humanity will be. But as long as other people try to impose how other people should be, there will always be a superiority-inferiority complex that will consistently divide us until, perhaps, the end of our days.
>>707295634 God doesn't mean anything.. God is a megalomaniacal, immoral, pseudo-peaceful, egotist that will inflict pain and suffering upon those who dismiss his divine power. He damns them to hell, and any God that does this is not one to be beloved. A God that sacrifices his son is not only disgusting, but immoral in true humanity sense. A God that would insist on his followers to slaughter the infidels is a God that is rightfully feared and illogically followed. God serves no purpose other than to divide us and hinder the limitless, profoundly beautiful, and genuinely awe enriching potential of humanity.
>>707295634 God was an fallacy created by a group of people who wanted to be seen as superior as everyone else. Then they started taxing them, demanding they follow whatever laws they wanted, sending them off to die in the name of a false creator, killing each other in his name.
Nowadays God is just seen as a normal religious deity. The being "God" has no meaning apart from being another religious deity to which the followers follow with differing amounts of zeal.
This is what I mean. I don't think you're grasping the scope and philosophical points raised by a God. I agree that the bible-bashing God is a quick fix, but I think religion and theology would surprise you if you delved a little deeper.
is not diretly equal to a god, just another creator, God should be the thing that creates the basis of reality in itself, for us and said ''cognitive agent'' there is nothing above god, while said agent might live in another world with the same questions as we have
>>707296463 and? You're talking about personal spirituality... But from the broad perspective, faith in God is only a catalyst for human destruction.
I don't care what you believe in. I don't care if you think white's are the master race (they are), or if pigs can fly (they can), but the moment you force that on the rest of us is where I have a problem. In addition, no scope was constructed from a religious fundamentalist point of view that could actually explain in accurate detail the true inner workings of the universe. Which what religion does. It teaches us to be okay with not understanding the universe because God is the "answer."
>>707291616 I actually do for the same reason Einstein did, the more I study the universe, physics and micro-bio specifically, the more I believe it had to have been designed. Now I'm not saying creationism, but it wouldn't have to be. God could have just set things into motion, provide elements the way to interact with each other, design the subatomic forces that build our very molecular universe.
The way a cell works, hell the way a virus works, is more amazing than anything most people can think of. The ability that cells have to communicate and coordinate their organelles that are only a couple molecules large, is almost inconceivable.
>>707297170 For human society to exist, ideologies and points of view / morals / beliefs need, will and allways have been forced upon people, call it the opinion of the majority or a dictatorship, conflict is just another part of human interaction
Religion and god are just one more dumb thing in this stew, and if it didnt exist, not much would be different today
well I did for the longest time, as being raised that way
but I was instead subject to the harsher side of christianity- I was told if I did anything wrong I would rot in hell for all of eternity and not really told much about jesus dying and being saved and shit, and that really fucked me up, I was too scared to do anything because I was afraid I would fuck up and go to hell
but then as a teenager I started giving less fucks about what I did and began questioning the existence of god (sort of always did anyway, never wanted to realize) more often than every before and, what would you know, my cat at the time gets really sick and dies and that's the fucking final nail in the coffin- I totally stop believing all together and I think that was a major life change for me
>>707297694 Doesnt really matter in the scope of asserting the existence of a god
Actually, even if we did know a god existed, exactly by this logic we couldnt know if it was a creator of all fabric of reality in any reality possible, or just another russian doll, provided we had no way of comunicating or viewing reality from its point of view
I dont even know if we could communicate with either god or agent, this whole argument is just one endless philosophical question for the book of unresolved time wasters
>>707297502 well, I can comprehend that reality, but from what I've seen, the most peaceful people have been the ones who don't give a shit what you think, so long as you keep it to yourself. The moment anyone does, is the moment that they lash out in protest..
From what I have seen, atheists have been most reasonable, logical, and moral people in human history. Now whether or not we should suspend belief in God should be left to the religious community, and should be considered seriously.
Yeah man so I've got some alternative views. When people have been hurt by possession or darkness in people and their behavior they deserve to be enabled in magic world.
This world is obviously made up and controlled and the idea is that it's to feed into a belief system that it's a fake thing that "earth 2016 world" is the only thing going.
you're pretty fucked with by possession. Do like, two tabs, or about 6 grams of shrooms. Or salvia.
But I need you to believe, for real believe, in possession.
You know when your mom freaks the fuck out over a light that you didn't even leave turned on? it's so that you have low social footing with the person. It's so that it's hard to engage in a discussion that doesn't fit with the media view of the world.
It makes a lot of sense when you think about it - there are dark spirits that possess people to hurt you and your ideas because that's what they're limited to do. Do a big dose of psys and you'll get enough oomph to "trip in".
>>707298247 Know anybody with bipolar disorder, maybe your mom or dad? They freak out over a light that wasn't left on (they say it was to break your memory) or a door that wasn't left open when you snuck out to smoke buds?
That's possession fucking with you. As soon as you understand that do drugs to "trip your face in"
>>707298170 See, for there to be peace, there must be war
Only after war survive the ones that accept the ideology that is ''more strongly'' represented, whether they believe in it or just tolerate it for the sake of living. Its all fine and dandy when we can avoid messing with peoples ideologies for as long as possible, but sometimes there is just no way to avoid conflict
Take abortion for example, a topic that causes major divide in populations, ignoring religious roots, it serves to show that for a society to live peacefully and in agreement, some conflict needs to exist and be resolved prior
People are just too different to live each by their own standarts
>>707298600 we're all related, voices in my mind changed from mean and evil to nice and friendly, possession took your mom and twin away and there's nothing wrong with the fact that you have that cousin that's just right into you because genetic purity, believe it or not, is ideal and favourable. That's why chinese, indian and japanese cultures have anchient religions with twins or brothers and sisters being into eachother and baby eggs.
>>707298642 does anyone else see this gif and wish that guy was sucking your cock? no homo. but seriously like do you imagine his head bobbing up and down in you lap while you grab him by the hair. idk why when i see this guys face i just have to bust a nut in his throat. no homo though so its cool
The reason I'm certain that possession and shit is real and a big problem is because it's literally impossible to engage in a discussion with a living person about how all of those little kids look all the same as eachother. Even if they're asians or indians. They look like white kids with paint on them to have the same skin tone as their folks and fuck me it's like a photocopier of brad pitt and chris pratt manbaby, ish.
>>707298643 Okay, If we must use logic to prove the supernatural >ontological proof of God >provides >has yet to be disproven >was validated by the automatic theorem prover Or will you declare that appeal to logic just to try and "win"
My personal reasons need not be logical, but I can still throw it around
>>707299745 do you really want to open up that can of worms? youre going to try to defend the contradictions of the bible? All teh contradictions of the bible? are you sure thats what you want to do? cuz ill go get material right now and we will have that conversation my friend.
Birth of Jesus Matthew (2:1) - Jesus is born during the reign of Herod the Great. [37-4 BCE] Luke (2:1-5) - Jesus is born during the first census in Isreal, while Quirinius is governer of Syria. [6-7 CE]
Jesus' Genealogy Matthew (1:1-16) - Lists 40 generations before Jesus, starting with Abraham. - Says Jesus' grandfather is Jacob. Luke (3:23-38) - Lists 76 generations before Jesus, starting with God. - Says Jesus' grandfather is Heli. Both - Consistant with Abraham to David. - Consistant on Salathiel begetting Zorobabel. - Consistant on Joseph as Jesus' father. - Disagree on *everything* else.
Jesus' Arrival in Bethany Mark (11:1-7), Luke (19:29-35), John (12:14) - Riding upon a donkey (colt) Matthew (21:1-7) - Riding upon *TWO* donkeyes (ass & colt)
The Last Supper Matthew (26:17), Mark (14:12), Luke (22:7) - First day of Passover. John (19:14) - Jesus crucified on the first day of Passover.
>>707300222 heres some reading material you might be interested in. it includes the exact verses of the bible so get your bible out and fact check. i did on a few of them... this is all true it seems. its quite the list.
Jesus' Last Words Matthew (27:46), Mark (15:34) - "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Luke (23:46) - "Father, unto thy hands I commend my spirit." John (19:30) - "It is finished."
The Death of Judas Matthew (27:3-10) - Judas repents, proclaiming the innocence of Jesus. - Judas casts the 30 pieces of silver into the temple, after (unsuccesfully) attempting to return it. - Judas hangs himself (in an unknown location) in shame. - The priests buy a potter's field with the silver. - The field is named for Jesus' blood, because it was purchased with "blood-money." Acts (1:16-19) - Judas does not repent. - Judas buys a field with his "ill-gotten gain/wages of iniquity" - Judas then "falling headlong" bursts open, his intestines spilling onto the ground. - The field is named for Judas' blood which was spilled upon it. --------- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RB3g6mXLEKk
>>707299984 Nope not at all... but posting material and legitmate contradictions for discussion is relevant... posting a jpg u thot wuz funny cuz ops a faggot... when the jpg is just blatantly inaccurate deserves a response. There's a difference between a valid argument and evidence that the bible apparently contradicts itself an that image perpetuating ignorance.... yes I'm aware this is /b
>>707291616 >implying some desert goat-fuckers invented the right, correct, true god and everyone else in the entire fucking world is lying. Yeah, uh huh. Oh, and that goes for all of them. Why are any of them right versus the others? Answer: you're all full of shit.
>>707300222 this is a quote from christiananswers.com its christians explanation of why there are contradictions in the bible.
The godly base their confidence on two truths: 1) “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16); and 2) an elementary rule of Scripture is that God has deliberately included seeming contradictions in His Word to “snare” the proud. He has “hidden” things from the “wise and prudent” and “revealed them to babes” (Luke 10:21), purposely choosing foolish things to confound the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27).
so basically theyre saying "welll thats a test! to see if you are a true believer or not. god did that to trick the non believers" thats quite the catch-all. i just see it as if i was to write a lie and i wanted the whole world to believe it, how would i convince them its true? and so its written in the bible. makes you doubtful doesnt it?
>>707300469 >>707300509 Lol >when logic doesn't agree with me it's weak and wrong Also, glad to see you don't know what a theorem is. You can't "prove" theorems they just hold up and work until someone disproves them, like how no one can find a right triangle to disprove Pythagoras
The automatic theorem prover has been used multiple times with out fail, but is only questioned when confronted with the ontological proof.
Also it's good to see you had to take 15 minutes off to do some hard hitting Google research only to return empty handed.
The ontological argument has been the bane of atheism for centuries and a single person has yet to find flaw in it.
It logically checks out It symantically checks out And it pisses you off
Unless you've never bothered to look into it before. I wouldn't blame you, atheists are huge fans of ignoring things that don't agree with them.
I have another personal ( non-scientific) reason that I'm sure will hit home.
Every human makes their own religion, no matter how much of an "atheist" they are. Some picked feminism, some picked other-kin, even the world's greatest atheists like Attila the hun and the great khan had their own beliefs and rituals. Dawkins, Harris, all of them have a religion tailored to their own wishes.
So long as atheists chose to worship things like feminism or partisan science, they will never truly be free from "religion" just the ones with a "god" and even then...
>>707301584 Deities exist because humans can create, we can imagine, throw some weed or whatever natural drug around you n hey presto you got a deity. Of course it's the the sole reason. Being human is the sole reason
>ontological proof No, we have seen why you cant say that, stop trying to sneak that one into the argument.
>automatic theorem prover Proving a theorem thru formal logic to arrive at a conclusion called 'true' with no analysis of said conclusion, opting by a red herring to avoid having to actually explain something
>it pisses you off
No it doesnt, i dont care enough about either god or logic for it to piss me off, in fact, if anything it still doesnt prove the existence of god, and my position of non belief is still the only reasonable one for an intelligent being
Your belief of god is nothing but a faint thread of egocentrism that helps you think that somehow this world was made for you, and how after you die you will not simply turn off like an unplugged TV, because your ego cant fathom such concept, or because you are void of meaning, and need something higher to force a drive in your life, because you cant do it yourself
There is no such thing as worship to science, because science is nothing in itself, its the result of the scientific method for explaining the world around us, which is ever changing when faced with actual proof
>>707301782 >Attributing all the worlds religions to weed
Nope not saying ALL religion comes from cannabis but the vast majority of religions on this world have a connection to cannabis. If humans didn't use cannabis they used mushrooms or other plants/herbs in their religion.
>>707302810 Maybe to some degree, but religion is way too broad of thing to be attributed only to drugs. Most religious are just compilations of other stories from other older religions, with some variations added to make the story relevant to the times it was retold. People believed in all kinds of shit back in the day, you didn't need drugs to believe that Jesus walked on water or that the Red Sea was split by god to save the jews
>>707302906 christians are brain washed to believe that if they dont believe they will suffer terrible consequences. they control you by exploiting your fear. dont want to be burned in hell for eternity do you?
There is too much suffering, death and chaos for there to be any kind of higher power. As far as we can see, we are blobs of relatively complex chemistry occupying the lukewarm rind of a rocky planet orbiting a nuclear reactor in a relatively empty universe.
