I'm not blessed by wealth right now, and only have this one particularly shitty laptop which happens to use intel for graphics, so I couldn't vouch for AMD/ NVIDIA, however I hear and see great things regarding them now, so that's a sure positive.

is a pretty shitty excuse these days, especially since it's getting consistently better and more widely supported and refusing to join for that reason only puts it in a further circle of not having it by way of userbase request.
In other words, get *nix or go home. (Dual booting is fine, if you're that butt hurt about muh games, I know a few lads that do that themselves for exactly that reason. *nix for main system, wangblows for gaymen.)

I dual boot Debian with Windows 7 and FreeBSD. If you need to use Windows you should use 8.1 or below with updates off. Windows 10 is basically NSA spyware disguised as an OS.

mayhaps, i have used ubuntu raring ringtail in the past so im more familiar with the terminal on it. though it's pretty similar and ive heard good things about debian so it's pretty high on my list.

If you get a good system going, you'll start to want to use it much more anyway. If you really are too lazy to 'get up', then a dual boot is still fucking piss easy. Turn the machine off (2 seconds), turn it back on and get to GRUB (2 seconds), select OS you want and let it boot (up to 30 seconds at the absolute slowest), launch desired applications.
All in all done in under 40 seconds. How is this difficult, slow, hard, or whatever?

Also yes, they Windows 10 spying is nearly impossible to disable. In fact, if you use any CPU newer than a Core 2 Duo you're botnetted on the hardware level. You should look into IntelME firmware. Your CPU won't boot without it. It's an interesting read.

I do webdev. multiple browsers because of compatibility. I used the terminal a lot when working with rails, not so much anymore.
when it comes to the terminal I just know how to cd, pwd, ls, touch, cat, etc. that kind of basic stuff and rails commands, and other than that it's just copy pasting from stackoverflow when I need to do something specific.
