They lower your testosterone levels which in turn cripples your drive and motivation. The reason for this is that sugar is inherently a reward—our animal brains understand it as a precious rarity. As long as you consume lots of it, your drive to accomplish other things is inherently diminished. It's actually better to consume fatty foods, red meat, etc than things with sugars.

Most I get from a normal diet is a bit of brown sugar I put in my oatmeal, one piece of fruit a day, a sweet potato, and whatever's in assorted veggies. Binges are pretty much the only way I introduce any "prohibitive" amounts of sugar into my diet, and that hasn't been quite as often lately.
Peanut butter (100% peanuts, natty shit) is still my main trigger food. And I say that unironically. And for me, any sort of "reward" never ends well.
