Tip is a feature, not a bug. You're food is cheaper than it should be, the tip added is to allow business owners to pay servers what they deserve. If it's busy, then they make more than minimum, but if it is slow then they are being paid about 6/hour.
Waiting tables isn't easy, nor is it hard. The tip is part of their salary, and they do deserve it for average service.
