Okay, guys, I was hoping some anons can answer an old dumbfucks questions. I'm so behind the times I've never even owned a cell phone. My gf is wanting a tablet(?) for Christmas. I think that's like an iPad but not entirely sure. Is apple the way to go or is there something comparable?
She isn't any more knowledgeable than me when it comes to this shit, so ease of use is a factor.
I'll dump milfs while hoping for replies.
Another question:
I recently bought a PS4. Why, I'm not sure, I've barely even touched it. Any suggestions on good games? I'd like to at least get some moneys worth out of it. I like RPG's, sports, but don't know much of what is out there.
An iPad is a type of tablet, and based off your description is probably the best option for you. The other main options would be an Android tablet (e.g. Nexus) or a Windows tablet (e.g. Microsoft Surface).
>>705360120
Thanks. Is it basically a smaller, less powerful laptop?
>>705360298
Pretty much. In the case of the iPad it runs its own OS that isn't as capable as something like full blown Windows/OS X/Linux but it still is pretty good for most basic tasks depending on which applications you get. It actually runs the same OS as the iPhone.
>>705359220
Thank you kind sir foar the milfs
To answer your question...; what is the tablet for? I own an iPad, never had any trouble. Thought it was pretty good. Used it for movies, downside was the memory capacity. Then there is also the constant updates that end up reducing your 16gb memory to 12gb.
Honestly it's good for quick surf of the web, movies and porn maybe some games
>>705360807
appreciated, sir
>>705360823
Always happy to post milfs. I think it is mostly so she can surf the web, maybe read some books. She doesn't have a smartphone or anything. What are they, about five hundred bucks?
>>705361059
They're in that range iirc. The only problem is that there's no way to increase storage capacity after buying one, so you have to make sure to get one that has enough space for everything you need. Also because of the size of the OS, a "16GB" iPad ends up being around 12GB (I have one and it's just barely enough storage).
>>705361335
Man, I have no idea how much storage she'd need or exactly how much a GB is. I wouldn't think she would need much, since she isn't into computers or anything.
>tip my fedora
>turn 360°
>walk away
About that PS4; other than games, is there anything they are good for? Seems like there are other things but not exactly sure if anything practical.
>>705359220
If you're going for ease of use definitely get an iPad. Apples OS is very simple, and easy to get into
>>705361872
Thank you. I figured I'd just get a bunch of "hipster applefag" replies. Ease of use is probably pretty important here. She is old, too.
>>705361757
just get a dirt cheap PC with a motherboard with a HDMI output. way cheaper then a PS4.
>>705361461
To surf the web: next to no memory needed (ROM of course)
To read books: I'd think 4gb would be more than enough
Saving movies: 1 high quality lengthy movie will take up about 2gb so we're talking about 5 movies on an iPad plus occasionally my iPad uses storage through glitches or hidden files when syncing.
I've never read books on iPad but it does the trick for me but as a music lover I often go for highest memory capacity; my iPhone is 64gb and hold about 30gb of music
>>705361757
You can use the Ps4 to watch dvds, youtube, movies, surf the web etc. Think of it as a less capable computer, that excels in playing games.
As to which games I'd recommend, I'd say The Witcher 3 and maybe Fallout 4. Both rather large games that you could definitely sink some hours into.
>>705362143
too late, I already bought it. It's collecting dust.
>>705362149
helpful, even I understood most of it.
>>705361757
As for consoles, I only ever enjoyed the old enthralling games of the older consoles. If the gaming industry is anything like the movie industry then I'm no longer interested in games produced today
>I think it is mostly so she can surf the web, maybe read some books.
So if you're going to surf the web, please consider how you're going to get them to the device. If you have your own Wi-Fi, that's the least expensive way to go. If you don't, then it means you will also have to get a data plan and wireless (directly to the internet through an ISP) connectivity. That means monthly charges that are not insubstantial. So do you have any sort of Internet connection now?
>>705362213
That clears things up, mostly. I'll look into those games.
I dig RPG's, is there a new D&D game out?
Also, the system came with a game called uncharted 4(I think that's the name). No physical copy. I guess I need to download. Is it worth it?
>>705362374
I hadn't even considered any of that. I have wifi at home for my pc. So I'd need like a plan a cell phone has for it?
>>705361461
One gigabyte (GB) is 1024 megabytes (MB). To put that into perspective, most audio files (songs or recordings) will be anywhere from 3 to 15MB depending on length and quality. Pictures are usually under 5MB each but it depends on the camera used to take them (pics can grow really fast when you increase quality). The main thing that will take your storage is apps. On my Android phone, there's about 380MB of data tied to the Facebook app, and most social media apps are like this. The general rule is that the more something does, the more space it will take.
If I were you I would play it safe and get a 32GB.
>>705362540
forgot to include a pic. Wake and bake, stuck on stupid.
>>705362738
32GB, got it. I don't want to cheap out or anything. She does like to listen to a lot of music but doesn't FB or anything. I don't think she even has an email.
>>705362928
>>705362686
If you have wifi for PC, then you can connect the iPad to it. If you are hard wired to the Internet, then you can't; in which case I would recommend a mobile wifi dongle
>>705362686
>I have wifi at home for my pc. So I'd need like a plan a cell phone has for it?
If you have WiFi, you should be able to connect to the Internet through your local network. So you don't need a wireless/cell plan to get to the net and download books. That's good. The bad, it means she'll have to download stuff onto the tablet in order to peruse it on the road. Or, you can go to local cafes that have wireless connectivity, or when you get to hotels that do. WiFi is available in many places and it's growing, so that may not even be an issue. There is a difference in the hardware, too. So if you think you *need* wireless, make sure it's built into the device. I'm 59, and also don't have any tablet, and I work on computers for a living. Get the idea? I don't even have a smart phone. Smart ass, perhaps.
do you get the wifi/data plan thing when you buy the product?
>>705363193
someone older than me on here!
So she would only be able to do online stuff if she is here or somewhere with free wifi? Are the plans expensive?
>>705363217
>wifi/data plan
Not WiFi. You just connect at home to your owen WiFi network.
Wireless data plan, yes.
A bit surprised about all the genuine help here, it's appreciated. Haven't been to /b/ in a while, expected to see some delete system 32's and shit.
>>705363217
No, data plans come from your ISP (internet service provider). If you can connect your pic and phone wirelessly to the Internet in your home, then you already have a data plan, if not you need to visit an ISP store/call them to buy a plan
>>705363407
>someone older than me on here!
Oh joy.
>So she would only be able to do online stuff if she is here or somewhere with free wifi?
Correct.
>Are the plans expensive?
That depends on what your idea of "expensive" is, and how much she'd use it. As I don't have any plans, I can't help there.
>>705363593
My pc is connected to wifi but don't have a cell. My phone still has a fuckin' cord.
>>705363588
Lol

I'm too old for juvenile pranks. But it's early on Sunday. Kids are still asleep.
>>705363726
>>705359459
For the PS4 - Witcher 3, Skyrim Special Edition (which is being released at the end of October), or Grand Theft Auto 5
>>705363726
>but don't have a cell
I have seen someone use their iPhone phone as a WiFi hub. That was way cool. But if you don't have that, then you're stuck with WiFi connectivity (assuming no data plan). It really isn't that awful.
>>705363726
So is your PCs wirelessly connected to the Internet (hence wifi) or is it connected by wire.
I'm assuming by wifi you actually mean wifi and not just Internet.
If you have wifi your set. You souldnt use too much data
Watching Netflix, porn and playing ps4 are huge consumers of data, often leading to excess data use resulting in a charge from your ISP which will come on top of your monthly rate.
Make sure you have a data plant with a data allowance capacity of you want to avoid this
>>705363786
I'm not even sure who Jennifer Lawrence is.
More like
>what is this asshole of the internet I am hearing about
>>705364261
thought it was the same thing. There is a router(?) in the other room and my pc connects to it.

Jennifer Lawrence was the celebrity on the news over the hacking and leaking of naked selfies over the Internet last year. It was a big story and she wasn't the only victim; needless to say the pics were posted here
>>705362063
my wife, 55 (I'm 53, but been in IT professionally all my working life, so I "get it" to a greater extent) had no problems with her android tablet. but we went samsung. probably the best android pick of the litter right now. very easy to use in my opinion.
>>705364493
the pc isn't connected with a cable or anything.
>>705364385
ok, that's kind of really being out of it. you don't consume much media, do you?
>>705364493
You connected the pic with a code correct?
If that's the case your set for Internet.
With iPad you simply go to settings connect to wifi, it finds your router and you punch in the code
>>705364609
I don't watch a lot of movies and don't know most of the current actors. I think I first came here in 2010 or 2011 but only sparingly the past few years.

Yeah, it asked for a code. I think it was on a stickr on the modem but it's been a while.

Don't watch many movies anymore either. You must have seen the hunger games billboards and adverisements no? Well she is the lead character; not that I give a fuck, the nudes were good and provided me with hours of fapping pleasure

more star wars than star trek. My last system was Atari, haha

Sorry man, boner subsiding
>>705364958
you don't really have to be into movies, she's been a headliner for various little nonsense things for years, that's what makes your lack of knowledge weird. Its not a big deal, just odd. I couldn't care less about her but I'm aware of her existence.
>>705365146
Heard of Hunger Games, they were womens books, right? I'll check her out, though.
>>705364493
>thought it was the same thing. There is a router(?) in the other room and my pc connects to it.
I've used both CenturyLink and Comcast. Both ISPs provided routers that have both wired ports and wireless connectivity. We use both in the house: the PCs are wired (faster transfer rates), and slow or remote devices are wireless (printer, external data storage, security camera). It doesn't matter how your PC is connected. The question is whether you have a wireless router. If you do, you have wireless at home.
P.S. Love the MILFs. To me, a beautiful older woman is the most pleasing sight on the planet.
>>705365280
I've heard the name, of course, but couldn't pick her out of a lineup or name any of her roles.
>>705365334
no need, she's not a great actress or anythng. the hunger games franchise is a shit series for children. Wait!!! I take that back. See her in her first big role..Winter's Bone. Pretty good film.

I enjoy most women, but MILFs are my thing. Which is good, since my gf is 55

Yes, router and wifi are the same thing; just today wifi is synonyms with internet
>>705365540
I'll try to do better, anon.
>>705365703
We're in similar straits. Mine has been spending a lot of time out of town taking care of her dad post-surgery.
>>705365767
>>Yes, router and wifi are the same thing
Uh, no, they are not. But if you're not a geek the differences are not worth knowing. Just pay some one to work your infrastructure.
>>705365930
Yeah. Its the price we pay for having some experience (years) in life.
>>705365934
Let me rephrase
Same thing to anyone not knowledgable.
All routers today have wireless capabilities
>>705366020
Been together a little over ten years now. Younger women look good but exasperate the fuck out of me. Older women look fantastic and are pleasurable to be around.
>>705365767
>router and wifi are the same thing; just today wifi is synonyms with internet
That's too bad. They're really three different things. It's like people confusing the web with the Internet. Grrr...
>>705366226
Again, not true. If you need one (and you do in industrial settings), you can certainly get a router without wifi. But its not a contest.
>>705366226
I think I have a modem connected to a router, if that sounds right? There's two fuckin' boxes, I know that!
>>705366355
>>705366241
Yeah, its rare to find a younger woman who is interesting to talk to. They are, almost without fail, completely self-absorbed.
>>705366433
She's cute.
>>705366355
You probably don't have a modem unless you've not changed your internet access since the mid 90's.
>>705366343
I thought web and internet was same thing, too. At least I am upfront about my ignorance.
>>705366525
older women better in bed, too. Best of all worlds.
>>705366676
I thought the modem is the box the internet company sent me.
>>705359220
>be old
How old are you, anon?
Also, where are you from?
>I've never even owned a cell phone.
Why don't you buy a basic android phone. They're very cheap considering that you can afford an ipad
>>705366355
Best way to check is to look at the back of your router in the other room; it should have an id and a password. For mobile devices those are necessary to connect otherwise you would need a router specific modem for a laptop for example.
>>705366786
Keep forgetting to include pics.
>>705366680
The World Wide Web (www) is a protocol that travels over the internet. The internet is a highway with many kind of "vehicles" on it. The web is only the more common "vehicle".
>>705366355
>I think I have a modem connected to a router, if that sounds right?
Very likely. The modem communicates with your ISP using something different than what's in the house (I'm not sure of the exact nature of the difference). The router supplies unique IP addresses to each device within your network, and interfaces your network with the modem. Routers are generic. Modems are set up to be specific to the ISP (loosely - I get a little lost in there, but for all practical purposes, it's close enough).
>>705366786
Your modem connects your pc to the router, both may have been provided by your ISP
>>705366799
I am forty, living in midwest us
I just have a thing about cell phones. For one, I hate talking on the phone. Another is it seems like an electronic leash. I don't want people to be able to get ahold of me any time. I like my privacy.
>>705366786
Do you connect that box to cable? Then yeah, its a modem. Otherwise, probably not a modem. "Modems" are going away as fiber optic gets more ubiquitous.

Uncharted is my GOTY.
Yeah, I guess you have to download it using a code you got with the ps4. U4 doesn't offer much open world aspects like a lot of RPGs, but does have a killer storyline and a fun multiplayer mode. Would recommend gramps
>>705367062
>Your modem connects your PC to the router
No. Your modem connects to the ISP, your router goes between the modem and the house network.
>>705367305

Also all the bad things i said about apple are true, i work in a phone repair store and we get hundreds of calls about people fucking up and having all their shit deleted, or the ohones saying "connect to itunes" randomly and then when you do it wipes off the memory, also having itunes installed on your computer makes like fucking 10 apple services run in the background constantly eating up your ram, its fucking piss

Destiny would be better if you could actually play old raids, but nobody does because it's fucking pointless. So unless you've been around and playing consistently since the game release, most of all the past content is a waste of time and money. For a game that only has one raid per expansion, there should be some sort of incorporation allowing people to play all of them for better gear

My wife researched pretty heavily and decided on an iPad. Not wireless - WiFi only. She loves it. She's not really tech savvy, but knows/learned enough to connect and have fun.
At work, we're writing an app for both the iPhone (that mean siPad, too) and Android. The Android developer's having fits. The iPhone guy nearly has it complete.
Not that we're expecting you to develop stuff, but it seems with a lesser challenge, more stuff would be available. Wasn't so in the PC world.
>>705372150
Sounds promising. Are some places better to buy than others or is it about the same everywhere?
>>705371955
Well then... here's another.

>You need to have itunes to use your hipster devices
You're about 3 years behind the times.
>I work in phone repair
>muh anecdotes
Anon wants to get wifey a nice, no hassle tablet. Chances are her friends will be on iPhones and she'll want to message and facetime without installing Snapchat or some shit.
I wouldn't touch Google shit with your dick.

*Nice* image!!
What? Oh, right... topic... Um. back in the day when i was in retail, Apple had a very strict pricing policy, and the concept was retail was it, no matter where you bought. The value came from where you bough tit - service, reputation, etc. Even warranty work had to be provided regardless of source. I don't know if that holds true today.
>>705372493
damn, those tits.
>>705372798
nice image as well. Apt, with the phone. And I love blondes....
so this isn't something I want to get at wal-mart or some shit, I am guessing?

Not op here but am also computer illiterate and have been thinking of a tabet for a while, mostly to watch movies or read books on the go or in bead.
Holy Shit! Only 16gb! I have a tiny little usb stick here that holds that ( I also have a couple of 64 gb usb's)
Can tablets use sticks? Do they come with a port? If so then that would realy help for storage
>>705372767
this guy gets it. Something basic where we won't have to figure out how to install a bunch of shit.
>>705373273

2. How the fuck are you able to use the internet? You seem clueless as fuck trough these comments. No offense, I'm just confused.

>Samefag
Is that a guess, or do you somehow know?
And you only get MILF shots if you help.
>>705373419
Very possibly not. I have a friend with 38 DDs. She's just over 60, and has shown me her assets. They're gorgeous, and although they'd fail the pencil test due to sheer size, it'd be a close contest. She just takes care of herself - rarely out of a bra for instance, maintaining the stuff (collagen?) that supports. It was an awesome sight. I think if this woman
>>705372798
took care of her tits the same way, it'd be just the way it is.
Ob pic...
>>705374926
it was a guess. A wrong one, because one was me and one wasn't.

I can used internet, just don't know about tablets. I've confessed my ignorance. Internet wsan't a thing when I was growing up, didn't have a comp until twenties. I work on cars for a living, I only use computers to check a couple web sites and email.
>>705373747
Would if she was some random slut, but not posting gf.
>>705375814
>it was a guess. A wrong one, because one was me and one wasn't.
That helped. I often see Anon saying that, and I still wonder if it's a guess or if they have some access to some identifier.
Ob pic attached as thanks
