I've taken two professionally administered IQ tests in my life
The first I was 17. They gave me 20 questions, I got all 20 correct. The psychiatrist said that that meant I IQ was "immeasurable" and proceeded to talk about how God blessed me with this great gift and how I shouldn't waste it
The second was a year or so ago. They gave me 35 questions, I got 34 correct. My IQ was reported to be 140.
Anything over 145 came from a test that wasn't legitimate. Every 15 points is "one standard deviation" above the mean. IQ tests (by design) don't go above 3 standard deviations.

Not the guy your replying to, but that was what happened to me as a kid too. I actually had to change schools because of it because the one I was at didn't have the gifted/talented program. There were only a small group of kids out of the entire school. We would get pulled out of class to attend meetings where they'd test our aptitudes or sometimes just sit and chat with us about politics and things. But the test is even less applicable to me than it is to most people, and that's saying something. My highest subscore was 160, and my lowest was 88.
The most commonly-used, recently developed, and statistically-reliable IQ tests are the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) are only given professionally and have many subtests and subscales, comprising hundreds of total questions or nonverbal challenges.
The top intelligence quotient, or IQ, on those tests is 160. So when people say their IQ is more than that, it's unlikely that they received such a score from a reliable source. Online IQ tests are not reliable nor statistically sampled, so they're basically clickbait bullshit. And there's no such thing as an IQ test that accurately measures IQ with a straightforward questionnaire of any kind.
Also, the IQ number is the least informative on an IQ test. The most informative measures are in the subscales.

Mensa is definitely not credible. They do not have access to the general population sample data necessary to form statistical comparisons in a standardized distribution of overall intelligence scores. Their tests aren't even certified by the American Psychological Association, which is the profession that actually invented IQ tests.
They do, however, likely identify highly intelligent people, at least with regard to verbal and mathematical problem-solving ability. But that's not all that goes into overall intelligence as it's defined by science. Plus, Mensa IQ scores have no established external consistency with standardized intelligence tests.
That's not to say that you're not intelligent, just that Mensa's tests aren't considered the real thing by the experts in human intelligence.

It can definitely take a very long time to take the entire exam. There's no fixed time limit, so theoretically, it could take many hours if someone really tried to go as slowly as possible yet answer/respond to everything correctly.
I've given both the WAIS and WISC, in addition to other less-commonly used IQ tests over the years. I absolutely hate them because it's like torture when you're the examiner. They all follow a VERY strict word-for-word protocol, and it's a total pain in the ass.
140+, thought to be 170-180. It runs in the family and makes nearly everyone on the maternal side of my family irritatingly "psychic". The real result of this is weird, overpowered hikikomori-like people who pretty much hate everyone, paranoia is commonplace and that my elderly grandmother began to think everyone was plotting against her was considered entirely normal by the rest of her family. My uncles from this side have all had more wives than Henry the 8th, the women are all married to rich men. Except for my mom who was a hippie and married the hippie version of Chad Thundercock which I'm really hoping evened out the crazy a little.
I look at it like this, I'm overbuilt. Evolution has not decided how fast a brain should be any more than it's decided how tall people should be or how big dicks should be. The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long. The ideal human IQ is probably 120-130, I call these "Prime Humans", they're healthy, attractive and easily taught. If everyone were like them we wouldn't have problems, though our art might be more boring. I would gladly make the trade.

True. No standardized test is perfect--there are always variations and cultural factors that skew the validity of scores.
A good example was in the last version of the WAIS, which was created in the 90s--one of the questions asked what you should do if you find an envelope that has an address written on it and a stamp affixed. The highest scoring response was: "Put it in a mailbox."
After 9/11 and the anthrax scares in the mail system, people started answering: "Leave it alone, get away from it, and call the police." But this was considered incorrect even though the world had changed and it was very much the right and/or smart thing to do at that time.
Needless to say, that question was removed in the newest edition.

if getting accurate IQ were as simple as subtracting 50 from online IQ, then online IQ would be a good predictor of accurate IQ, which would make the methods used to measure accurate IQ redundant and unnecessarily complicated in comparison to the simplistic and unverified methods used by online tests

I was just speaking to how official IQ tests are scored. Two scores within the same confidence interval are always interpreted as being equal. However, it's always possible that in a two-point difference, the higher number is in the next-highest confidence interval, so that would mean the higher score most likely represents a slightly higher level of intelligence (to either a 95% or 99% level of confidence, depending on the norms used to establish the confidence intervals).
