For fun but for any practical sort of thing, including end of the world bullshit there's no reason not to go 9mm, it's just the most common. Too bad about the price increase(on rifle ammo too really, unless you get a good deal on russian or eastern european bullshit) especially on 9mm.
>>704043885
Is that a question? Have you ever fired a gun without ear pro? It fucking rattles you. Now multiply that by 10 inside the house. That shit will wreak your ear drums and leave you dazed as fuck. Silencer for Home defense is a great idea.

>>704045610
For humans you dont need anything past a 9mm using todays hollow point ammunition. Pistol ammo isnt going fast enough to cause rifle caliber esque damage. Basically all pistol rounds just put a (insert bullet caliber) hole into the target. In reality it makes no real difference what pistol caliber you shoot them with so long as it can penetrate far enough. For that reason, 9mm is the best option. Easy follow up shots. High capacity, large supply.
>>704045283

>>704047578
>>704047679
Beyond not ideal, though I'd trust one on black bear if I had heavy hard cast bullets.
There's a report of an off duty cop using 357mag 158gr gold dots on a brown bear.
IIRC 4 rounds hit the skull and failed to penetrate. The only reason he killed it is because the bear stood on its hind legs and he shot it through the throat hitting its spine.

This is my favorite to carry - Taurus TCP 380. Carry in my wallet pocket inside of an easy-draw holster that conceals the shape. "Don't kill me...you can have my wallet!!!" <pew pew>
This is my favorite to shoot - scoped Beretta Neos. So many dead squirrels. Also easy to pretend you're Han Solo.
Question for you pistol guys, I'm in the market for my first one (shot a lot though), alot of the Deputies I work with( I'm in Corrections) tell me to go Glock, but I don't like the idea of the non safety, I know about the dual trigger, but still. The plus they cite is when you draw, you're ready for action, and that's a valuble thing, time is life in those moments, and I don't want to be on auto pilot and not remember to flip a safety on a gun, that *click* would be death, but I also want to have something that won't shoot if it gets caught on something. I guess the question is "How accessible is The Glock, is it more for seasoned gun-owners of will newbies be able to get the gist" and "Would you recommend a Glock to a person whose never owned a gun, but knows his way more than a novice?
>>704050451
It's a pretty rare occurrence for how many Glocks there are out there, and a lot of beginners get them.
If anything I feel like it makes people be more careful, because they can't learn to rely on a safety to stop the gun from firing.
Most AD/NDs I hear about with them are from people who don't safety check their guns when field stripping (you have to pull the trigger to field strip).
It's a non-issue as long as you're not too retarded to remember to keep your finger off of the trigger until you're ready to fire, and carry in a holster.
If you're still worried about it, go for a hammer-fired gun without a safety. The DA pull on them is usually 2-3 times longer, and 12lbs (twice as heavy as a Glock trigger)
So you'll know it has pressure on it before it goes off.
>>704051397
Great answer, thank you.
>>704046403
That's what I'm sayin along with availability
>>704050451
Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire, and use a proper holster unlike pic related. This applies to everyone, both new gun owners and seasoned shooters

Literally everyone but faggots hate this pistol.
Croatian bullshit is what it is. Literally a polished HiPoint. They used to be imported into the US as the HS2000 and could be bought for $150.
Springfield Armory (which is just a shit tier importer that bought the rights to the name of a legendary firearms manufacture), bought the rights to import this croatian shitbrick and slapped a new name with the "GRI-GRI-GRI-GRI-GRIIIIP ZOOOONE" bullshit on the side. The barrels are the lowest quality from a cold forged operation and are barely supported to industry SAAMI standards. Not to mention, the chambers and frames are notorious for catastrophic failures. The GRI-GRI-GRI-GRI-GRIIIIIP ZONE" is absolute shit, the grip angle is fucked all to hell, and the bore axis is so damn high you need a fucking step stool to see over the barrel and superglue on your hands to manage the recoil. Not to mention, the XD line has probably the worst trigger on the market. Its a mile long and sloppier than your sisters pussy and has no indicator of a reset. You're sitting there wiggling your index around, looking like you're trying to finger bang a goddamn dairy cow all the while hoping you'll make it go bang at some point. Why the fuck didn't you just buy a HiPoint? Buy a Taurus of a CZ if you want a decent cheap pistol.

>>704067862

>>704069842

>>704069953
Thompson sub machine guns are great. Only problem I find is that the stock is so long you need to be a big framed person to hold it comfortably.
>>704069681
I would argue that a high quality 1911, due to the hand-fit barrel bushing and super light single action trigger is inherently more accurate than other modern pistols. But not so much more accurate that it would make a difference for self-defense. But for long range target shooting? 1911 is one of the greats.

Firing from an open bolt is a sloppy and primitive way to operate a gun. Firing from a closed bolt is more precise and accurate.
Guns like the Thompson and the Uzi strip the bullet from the magazine, chamber it, and fire it all in one violent motion. It's more precise to load the bullet, lock the chamber, and then fire when everything is locked in place.

Practice more and get to where you can shoot at 25 yards. Dry fire practice is great if you can't afford the cost of all that ammo. I certainly can't.
If you don't want to dry fire, order some 9mm snap caps from Amazon or something.
They're about $15 for a 4 or 5 pack, and are good for 500+ trigger pulls each.
As for 9mm self defense ammo, any +p or +p+ Gold Dots kind of set the standard.
Hornady +P Critical Duty also works well out of longer barrels like your gun has.
Both of those rounds are pretty expensive, though.
Give me a bit and I'll find some cheaper stuff that also works well.
I'll have to look it up, though. I don't actually own a 9mm atm.
Ruger sr9, because I'm shit at shooting anything else.
This little beauty

I am partial to my Springfield Arms XDM 40S&W. Also any .357 I will spontaneously orgasm over.
>>704049348
It's because it is : it's a submachine gun cut down to pistol size (and the original gun was quite big compared to modern machine pistols).

>>704043266
The same "advanced" loads for the 9mm are also availibe for the 40
Capacity is an okay argument
>better arguments:
Same frames, same locking block, so longevity would go to the 9mm frame.
Recoil impulse is diffrent, 9mm impulse easier to manage and stay on target

Cheaper suggestions:
Standard pressure Hornady XTP 124gr JHP
Standard or +p XTP 148gr JHP
Staandard or +p Federal HST 124 or 148gr.

Always wondered about that, Why does Bond, who could have any gun he wanted, choose the Walther PPK?
Apart from being easy to conceal, it is a good pistol, comparatively?

In the 1950s, .32 ACP was a very common handgun cartridge around the world so it would makse sense for a global spy to carry one. Obviously today, .32 ACP isn't a great choice but you have to understand the context of the time when the original Bond books were written.
>>704035273
Depends. What's the mission?
.32, wee bit too small
>>704072328
>>704072590
Yeah, back then 32 ACP was REALLY commonly used, even by several militaries.
It was one of the few ammo choices you could easily purchase in almost every country in the world.

Reason I carry it - FBI rule of 3's
Majority of gun encounters is 3 or less rounds, 3 or less seconds, 3 or less meters.
It points as natural as your index finger, has a very positive and reachable safety and an incredibly crisp trigger with unreal precision to shoot very well much easier than most platforms.
>>704036840
Hell yeah browning high power!
I inherited one of these....love it
I'm a fan of my S&Ws, but I eventually want something with a metal frame, probably a nice 1911 or Sig or something

>>704075107
1911s are great, and I understand your reasoning, but I don't agree with it 100%.
The entire reason I carry a gun is for the 0.1% chance that I have to use it to protect somebody.
Why not go the extra mile to ensure I can use it in the 5% of the 0.1% where I need extra rounds, or have to move so fast that I could forget the safety? I know all of those things are incredibly rare, but that's the whole point; preparing for rare possibilities.
There has to be at least one other gun in a similar size/weight that points just as well for you and holds more rounds.
For me it's the P30/P30SK/VP9.

Let me clarify
GLOCKNADE
A glock exploding and causing injury from using incorrect ammunition.
I can do this to ANY fucking firearm by loading a round too hot.
Take note that certian barrels and firearm designs can handle higher pressures and hotter loads , a good example is revolvers which can handle very hot loads quite well (possible better than your mom)
GLOCKs are NOT rated for PLUS PRESSURE (+p or +p+) ammo.
They can probably handle/cycle a few rounds , but you ARE damaging the firearm.
And guess what, it blows up eventually, no shit genius .
Law enforcement agencies have been carring GLOCKs for YEARS, but they regulate that the officer only uses appropriate ammunition. They qualify , train and practice for YEARS & YEARS. and shoot shitloads of ammo. The only complaints ive heard of are walked out pins, the RSA spring recall, and broken parts from YEARS OF WEAR.
No explosions.
I Wonder why i only see glocks exploding and becoming a meme on internet boards , posted by mall ninjas and keyboard commandos, that never back up their claims with letters, ammo claims, law suits , manufacturer statements, safety recalls... Anything other than a picture of a blown up gun.
Could it be that the operator was just a huge fucking idiot?
What does that say about the people that blindly repeat and copy this garbage?

>>704076860
I know you're just shitposting, but fuck it hurts how many people think this.
.40 S&W has 180gr loads going 1200fps
135gr loads going 1300-1500fps
155gr loads going 1300 fps out of 4" bbls.
That's very near max pressure 357 Magnum loads.
>>704078107
Legally, that's only a stock if you put it to your shoulder. Classifies as a cheek rest otherwise.
Still not a pistol, as pistols cannot have a vertical front grip.
Legal classification, to my knowledge, is Firearm or AOW. Not sure which.
>>704068237
Same bro. I've been able to one shot a Hunter more times then I can count.
>>704079193
It serves its purpose, If you want a reliable plinker that you can take to the range every day the desert eagle is not that gun. If you want to have something you take out once and a while and make huge fireballs with while spending lots of money then it is what you need.
>>704035273
