pros - good ass food (bar b q and mexican), people are pretty decent to each other, south padre, medical facilities, colleges, pretty bitches, texas 2k, mild winter, speed limits, texas renaissance fair, SXSW, almost every band or musical artist tours through dallas or austin or houston, tons of breweries, dallas and austin have badass public transportation, cheap and high quality drugs.
Cons - humid as fuck in the south east, hot as fuck, bible thumpers, red necks (although most of them are pretty decent and will cook for you), houston is full and the infastructure is old, san antonio is mexico and the infastructure is falling appart, panhandle is racist as fuck, theres certain towns you shouldnt be black in, if you want to drive anywhere it takes for fucking ever.
Overall the cities are pretty decent and you can have fun in all of them, if you want to go to school for something youre covered and even if you live in a town the biig cities arent that far away. Jobs are relatively easy to come by and housing costs are low. Moving here isnt a bad option as long as you can stand the heat. If you move to houston though be ready for huricanes. that shit sucks.

I moved from Eugene, OR to Austin, TX last year.
A couple of friends convinced me to come live here and I've been their roommate ever since. To my surprise, Austin is pretty cool. However, the blacks here are pretty fucking judgemental and racist and hate whites (Mainly along Lamar).
Other than that, there are plenty of jobs and opportunities. You see a lot of M2F and vice versa, but people are pretty chill.

Texas in general has a decent job situation, no state income tax, and lots of good craft beer. I've lived in Austin, Dallas, and Houston. They all have upsides. Houston likely has the most opportunity (depending on your line of work, of course). The whole "everything outside Austin is rednecks" is a conceit of Austin. It's a terrific city in many ways, but more expensive, and home to a lot of insufferable hipster douchebags who have convinced themselves that only they care about truth, justice, or beauty. It's a relatively small, very white city that thinks it celebrates diversity, but regards Houston, a very large metropolitan area with actual diversity, with undisguised horror. Go figure.

Here's the pros -
Gun laws. I like guns. I like carrying them, open or concealed. And black rifles.
Food - Mexican food, Barbecue, and everything in between. There is good pizza to be had here, but not NYC pizza. If you like diverse food, we have it. I live in NWTX around Amarillo, and the restaurants are pretty diverse here. I was in heaven visiting Dallas.
Music - we have metal, rap, and country locally grown. If music is your scene Austin might be for you.
Hunting, fishing, all sorts of outdoors...racing even. Plenty to do and see. Lots of wild hogs to hunt.
The weather depends on where you're at. My area is hot, dry, and windy, and we get snow sometimes.
Jobs. Lots of jobs.

West Houston is pretty good. I'm a native, though I spend many years living in different places, Atlanta, NYC and NJ, Boston, other parts of New England, etc. But came back.
Houston is prosperous place where things are happening. It's not some has-been place whose best days are behind it, like most of the north east.
I like how sensibly the city is laid out. I think the lack of zoning is great, and that we don't just have one downtown, but 3+ city centers.
I like the attitudes of most people, and there is great food to eat everywhere. I almost starved in NJ, food everywhere was such shit.
If you can afford to live in the nicer parts of Houston, it's great. And it doesn't take that much money to do that... certainly not as much as to live in the "nice area" of most other cities.

I will say that in the last 20 years or so, so many people have been moving to Houston, that it's diluted a good deal of the friendliness. I've lived in Texas all my life. Lived in Austin, Dallas, and now in College Station/Bryan.
It's alright here man. I've never lived anywhere else so idk what to compare it to. Weed is illegal and you can't buy booze after midnight from stores but Bars serve until 2a.m. so there's that.
It gets really hot though man, and it's a heavy wet heat not a dry heat like Arizona. Being outside is like being in a suana sometimes.
Pros: Lots of sky, rolling plains, out in west Texas some nice plateus, good star-watching places. Great parks. Very good mexican food, good sausages (because of the german/czech influence).
Cons: Weed illegal, No buying beer after midnight, no buying liqour after 9p.m., lots of religious conservatives, gets very hot, driving between major cities takes hours.

San Antonio: A good mix up of the whole state. Great Mexican food, nice people, the Southside is little Mexico, downtown sucks unless you're not driving and you don't wonder down the wrong street. The Alamo is cool, the river walk is okay. Floods hit once every year, taking out some major roads.
Houston: Niggers. Niggers everywhere. I work at a building where I'm literally the only white person (the pay's good, not gonna leave). Some of the nigs are decent people, but most you'll find there are insanely racist against white folks. The little towns on the outskirts are much nicer, and better kept. You'll find some amazing barbeque if you know where to look. Hurricanes and tropical storms come in like a kick in the balls, and the humidity year-round is so thick you can cut it with a knife.
Austin: If Faggots and potheads that talk about weed all the time annoy you, then don't go to Austin unless just for a visit. Walk down 6th street and you'll find almost every bar has a live band playing at some point. You'll find some of the best food Texas has to offer. If you like music, you'll like it there. There's SXSW and ACL there, which are fun, but they'll cram extreme liberal shit down your throat any chance they get. Weather is decent.
Dallas/Ft. Worth: Dallas seems like a mix of San Antonio and Austin, politically and socially. It really wants to be liberal, but wants to be okay with conservatives. I never really felt like Dallas/FTW knew what it wanted to be. It doesn't stand out much, but probably just because I haven't been there near as often as the other cities. Folks were nice. good barbeque. Weather is pretty hot. Oh, and tornados.
Laredo: Don't fucking go. Laredo is Mexico creeping into the US. Tons of illegals, no one knows how to drive, fuck loads of beggars trying to wash your car for you while you pump gas.
